Is he or isn't he a demon? Will he or won't he keep killing? What's Crowley up to? What's Sam up to? Has Castiel found some new grace yet? Watch, contemplate and discuss.

No more black-eyed Dean please...but I like the scene. "Not talking about 'little Dean'." They are too funny.

I gave this one a big, fat 5. This is the Supernatural we've come to know and love. Loved Dean scaring Crowley and knocking him down. "What are you gonna do about it"
And when Cole catches up with him? Those fighting skills that Demon Dean has have to have some basis in our original Dean of 9 seasons ago. Leaving him alive to suffer? No mercy.
The saddest part was Sam trying to reason with him and getting nothing in return.
The way Demon Dean stared down Crowley when he was in the back seat of "just a car." Scary.
We all know Crowley isn't going to get rid of the first blade. Can't believe Sam fell for that.
Hannah going to Metatron to get Castiel's grace back? Right, like that was going to work. Castiel walking away from Metatron. Smartest thing he's done in many seasons. Metatron screaming "Dead man walking?" A little trite.
Great, great episode.

Really not sure how I feel about this one, and I don't know if it's the storyline or the storytelling. Emotionally queasy is the best/closest I can do for now, I guess. They've always had a contained story that wrapped up within the hour and then overarching mythology issues as a through line, but now it's basically all through line extending across multiple episodes. I think I'm going to have to wait until next week's episode to know for sure. I did love the darkness getting stepped up.
ETA: As if it hasn't been bad enough to have all the suit-wearing angels, now all of Crowley's demon lackeys have to wear suits, too? *raspberry* (I do get it, it fits with Crowley's style, but after the angels, it starts to feel stale and uninspiredly boring.)

Dean was scary as hell, and I LOVED it. Jensen is simply amazing. Didn't really notice anybody else.

I loved this episode because the drama was breathtaking and the men were pretty. Definitely a 5. Giving shout-outs to: the view of Crowley’s “perfect hell”. I always thought that was a witty idea. .....Sam’s FBI name “Lemmy Kilmister” of Motorhead. .....Dean’s nod to “The Princess Bride” .....Crowley’s nod to “The Ring - Precious”, his innuendo “I don’t want to get boned.”, and “Stop it Samantha; no one likes a tease.” .....Playing “Lonely girl” when Crowley was looking at the pictures of himself with his BFF Dean. .....Teenagers calling Dean “grandpa”. I am glad they showed the flashback to what happened to Cole’s father. Based on what we saw, we do not know for certain that Dean is the one who killed the man; or, if Dean did kill Cole’s father, there had to be a good reason. After all those years of planning, Cole failed in his mission and Dean messed with his psyche. I enjoyed seeing Dean living his “Cherry Pie” fantasy of a previous season, the one where Anna popped into his dream. After the way he treated the dancer, I am now convinced that Dean is not the nice loving guy he was before the MoC. I liked the way they synchronized Dean’s fight with the blows Cole was giving to Sam, but my stomach churned when Cole pressed on Sam’s broken arm. When the key ring dropped, I wondered if Cole was letting Sam escape. Castiel’s grace is too weak to even heal a knife wound. He had been melancholy and lacking in emotion until Sam told him Dean is a demon. Then, he became visibly upset and was even snarky to Sam with his “That is a vast understatement.” I knew Castiel felt love for the boys and Hannah has to accept it after Cas said “Sam and Dean may be a bit rough around the edges, but they are the best men I have ever known, and they are my friends.” Hannah reminded me of how Castiel used to be when she said “I understand the three beans, but what’s the surprise?” Crowley said, “You’re an addict. Death is your drug and you’re going to spend the rest of your life chasing that dragon.” At the end of the conversation, Crowley said there was something else he needed to share with Dean. Lester was a total jerk and dumb as dirt. I enjoyed the lessons Dean taught him in the car. I notice that Dean suffers no qualms when he offs someone with the First Blade. Crowley’s expressions make me laugh so hard sometimes. His demon’s “conversion rate” pitch was definitely not entertaining to him. I like the way Crowley turned the phrase on Dean with “It’s not me, it’s you.” The scene between Sam and Dean was enlightening and removed any doubt about Dean's state of mind. He did alarm me when he stood up from the bar and picked up the Blade. Sam got a little nervous also. Oooh… the look Dean gave Sam when Sam put the cuffs on him. Unholy hateful glare! “What I am going to do to you Sammy…ain’t going to be mercy either." So much drama!

Anti, I agree with your supposition that perhaps it wasn't Dean who killed Cole's father. He may have come in after the fact to see the boy leaning over his father's body. It would be odd if Dean didn't try to get Cole out of there, just in case, but I have a feeling we'll be re-visiting that June day in 2003 again. And where was John? I didn't think Dean was hunting on his own in 2003.
Such a great, great episode.....Jensen has a lot riding on his shoulders in next week's episode.

Hello, I am really tired but wanted to stop by and just say how much I liked this episode! It was so much better than the last one. Everyone here has already talked about all the things I liked and saw but I do have a couple of things that I thought were great. Cas and the little girl, it was so sweet and adorable to see the little girl take to Cas and share her cereal with him. It was so nice to see someone be nice to Cas for a change and not try and hurt him. Dean was just awesomely scary, some of the glances he gave Crowley and Sam, Jensen was so good at being bad, when he was playing counselor to Lester and you could see the moment that Dean's amusement with Lester left and he changed into the killer. I loved it when he knocked Crowley back and stood up to him! even though it hurt to hear him say it, it was funny when after Sam said your my brother and I am taking you home, that Dean laughed and made light of what Sam said. Sam- Was so strong in this, I don't mean physical but mentally he just kept on doing what he had to in order to do what he needed to, get Dean home. He was just so focused and strong, but giving the blade to Crowley was a bad move. Bored Crowley I think for all of his manipulations and deals and working behind everyone s back he still underestimates the Winchesters, but I am worried about what will happen now that he has the blade. Cole and Hannah, they were both more tolerable in this one, and can I just say Cole is a cutie. All the good looking men in this show makes it hard to concentrate on what is going on sometimes.

I love John and I need to do a little research, but I think Dean hunted alone very young.
Next week's episode looks exciting and that's the one Jensen directed? It's nice to have episodes that I am excited about.

Just read novemberschild post and I agree with everything you said. The little girl was so sweet to Cas and Cas reacted much better to the snot story than I would have. When the girl's mother thought Hannah should be with Castiel, I wondered if that is the direction they are headed. They might be just teasing us, but it certainly seems like Hannah has a crush on Cas, but he does not seem to be aware of it. I have been wondering if there is something wrong with Jared's arm and if an injury was incorporated into the episodes. Has anyone heard anything? I do not see the value of Sam having his dominant arm broken. Gee...Cole has knocked him out twice. In spite of that, Sam has been awesome. He took the beating from Cole and remained macho. He refused to give up on his brother (yes, I also laughed at Dean's mockery...it was too funny to not laugh). I thought Crowley or Castiel would show up to help put the cuffs on Dean, but Sam managed it. He has always been tough in addition to being brilliant.

I mean, the looks he gave Crowley nearly froze my blood. I want Dean to stay a demon. Oh please, please, please....who do I have to kill to make this happen?!

I do not mind flashbacks, and I think Supernatural has done an excellent job with them. Flashbacks showed what Sam did during his lost year and what Dean and Castiel did in Purgatory. But I am happy to see Dean as a demon in real time rather than through flashbacks. It feels like we are living the drama with them. I can feel the evil rolling off of Dean in waves. When he told his brother it was all he could do to keep himself from tearing his throat out - with his teeth - I felt a chill.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan played Dean's father while he was only 12 years older than Jensen. Lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using proboards

Ashley, I know what you mean. The only reason I am giving him a pass on the age thing is that he is so handsome at any age.

Anti, You asked if Jared really hurt himself? Yes, he did this summer. I am attaching a link that tells about it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4ILjQCo1QYIt happened at one of the SPN conventions, so if the link doesn't work I think it was at JIBcon.

November, thank you so much! I kept wondering why they wanted Sam Winchester hunting with a broken arm and now I am glad he was able to keep filming. I am not particularly pleased that it seemed like Castiel played a part in the injury on the show though.

Three things!! One: loved the episode! Despite having to download it to watch, since my CW station conveniently decided to go off the air for the hour that was SPN. I got Flash, then black "no signal" about 4 minutes into 10.02. Two: What if the Young!Dean that killed Cole's dad was Skin!Dean? Wouldn't that be an awesome tie-back to S01. Clever & full circle back to the beginning, S01 & S10. Remember: you heard it speculated here first. Three: My friend Tara was in this episode! AND SHE DIDN'T DIE!!! W00T!!!! She was even nice: the mom who rescued Cas & Hannah. Go Team Tara!! You're still alive so maybe we will see you again.

It couldn't have been Skin!Dean since Cole's dad was killed in 2003 and Dean's shape shifter experience didn't happen until 2005-2006. Nice try, though. I'm still of the opinion that Dean didn't kill Cole's dad. With killing that bloody, surely Dean would have been spattered with some of his blood and Dean looked spotless. He also didn't have the kind of look on his face that he usually does when he kills something. Wondering how this will all play out.

SoCal I agree with you. I think Dean chased whoever killed the father and then he returned to the room. Dean does not spend a lot of time explaining his actions to anyone and I do not think he would explain the existence of monsters to young Cole. Dean is innocent (of that particular killing) until proven guilty. 3 more days! anicat Your friend seemed very nice.

Hi Anicat! Your friend did a good job, and she was nice to Cas and Hannah. I thought the little girl was so cute and your friend was so lucky to be on SPN.
I don't know who killed Cole's dad, but maybe something killed Cole's dad and Dean killed it before walking into the room Cole was in, and since the knife Dean was holding onto was bloody, that may be why Cole thought Dean killed his dad?
