I dunno Supernatural fans. This could be good or majorly stupid. The season started off so serious and dark with Demon!Dean, and now we're in for a high school musical. I have no idea what to expect. How about you? Watch, rate and discuss here.

Subtext anyone?
It was a wonderful tribute to the fans, shown from the way the fans view the show.
I liked the title cards, but I do not remember the "Metatron" title card. Maybe I was not paying attention on that one.
There were some really funny scenes, especially the Calliope splash. I laughed for several minutes over that one.
They had really good voices and I enjoyed the songs. The "One Man Tear" for Dean was sweet. They were mostly Sam girls though. When Dean and Sam became emotional during the singing of "Carry On My Wayward Son", I realize they do not hear it when we do. That was wonderful.
They ended the episode very nicely. I enjoyed Sam, Dean and Baby zooming down the road. Then I wondered who the girls were so excited to see...Chuck was a nice touch.

Not one of my favorites. I thought the MOTW was weak. And too little Dean and Sam and too much guest stars. The amulet thing was cute and Dean hanging it up on the rear view was sweet. Other than that, it was mostly forgettable to me.

Aww...too bad you did not like it. I am glad they did not make the fans seem stupid like on the Becky episode. I think it was intentional to have the monster grab the girl who insisted the play should stick to canon and I thought that was funny.
Dean's fight with the monster was also funny because the audience was really into it.
Then Dean said "Bitch" to the girl and she thought that was cool.

Anti, it had its moments, but as a whole, I just thought the story was a bit week. At least the shout-outs to the fan base weren't mean-hearted as you say. You're right, Dean's automatic response of "Bitch" to the girl's "Jerk" was cute. He looked surprised that he said it to her. I'm not sure what to make of Chuck's appearance. Did Adam show up at the end? I didn't notice. It was cute when the monster blew up and sprayed the audience with blue goo. Wonder how they got so cleaned up afterwards?

Yep, that was Adam. Dean asked who the little guy was and she said it was their brother and he is still in hell with Lucifer. I burst out laughing when the blue goo sprayed.

I went into this with less than high hopes and didn't expect much, but I was very pleasantly surprised and ended up really liking it. I am too tired to do a review tonight but just wanted to stop by for a minute. I will post my review hopefully Thursday. and Chuck was there!

There was a lot of fan debate about what happened to Chuck. TPTB cleverly had Chuck vanish when he finished telling the story of Sam and Dean. That led to speculation that Chuck was God, but that was never substantiated. Then, when Kevin came along, we had to assume Chuck had died but no proof was ever given.
I was pleasantly surprised to see him.

I thought that since Chuck had been introduced as a prophet, it was logical for him to vanish when his work was done. Then Kevin became the next prophet. I don't think Chuck is God. He's Erick Kripke with hair and a beard. Something tells me Cas would have known if God was in human form.

SoCal I never knew what to think of the vanishing act except that it was special. I totally agree that Cas would have known and the Archangels too.

I have watched several times now and I think I like it better every time I see it. Let's get the not so good out of the way first, to me there wasn't much of a MOTW and it seemed pretty easy to kill them, but you know what? I don't really even care about that, because I thought the rest of the episode had so many little moments that made it an awesome episode. The girls who sang were very good singers and I love that song " the road so far" and single man tear. The start of the episode had Dean in a T-shirt working on Baby, how long has it been since we have seen that? The motel room # 200, just like in PONR with room #100. Dean throwing the gun in the trunk and saying we have work to do. At the school when they first walk in and listen to the girls practicing their lines, Just watch Dean's facial expressions thru that whole scene, he is hilarious. This has so much classic Sam and Dean, in it, sweet, nerdy Sam in the tech room playing with the gadgets and Dean with his speech to give some one motivation, They both seemed so in tune and relaxed with each other. It may not last long but I loved that they were on the same page for this episode. Dean in the background of the play nodding his head in time to the music, he was so into it. Sam asks Calliope why SPN, she says SPN has everything, life, death, resurrection redemption and above all FAMILY. and it does have everything. This little show that could has made it 10 years, and that is exceptional in todays tiny attention span when everyone is so busy and can't give anything a chance to see if it is good or not. SPN doesn't hit home runs all the time with episodes and I certainly don't think it is the best show ever, but it is good and fills a spot that is really needed on TV. I laughed when the guy put his poncho on, it makes me laugh every time. The girls taking a bow and Dean doing a little bow in the back. I do think Marie realized that it really was Sam and Dean at the end when she gave Dean back the Samulet, and it was sweet to see Dean put it in the car. To see Chuck at the end was fantastic, and I am glad I went into this episode with no high hopes because I really liked it. Anti, The Metatron title card was from S9 Meta Fiction, it showed for just a little bit and then switched to SPN title card. Chuck did vanish at the end of S5 and we never saw anything else to tell us what happened. I think that if Chuck is/was actually God on SPN he could hide that he is God so that Cas and the other angels couldn't sense him. The scarecrow was John DeSantis, the guy who played the Golem in BE's masterpiece "everyone hates hitler."

Wow…this is a great review. I have so many comments, I am inserting them into the post. I have watched several times now and I think I like it better every time I see it. I am going to watch it again while I have lunch. It is worth it.
Let's get the not so good out of the way first, to me there wasn't much of a MOTW and it seemed pretty easy to kill them, but you know what? I don't really even care about that, because I thought the rest of the episode had so many little moments that made it an awesome episode. I hope they wanted a lame monster which kept the episode light and frivolous and it fooled the audience. You reminded me of the girl saying how scary her scarecrow was and Dean was trying so hard to be supporting. I keeled over with laughter.
The girls who sang were very good singers and I love that song " the road so far" and single man tear. The start of the episode had Dean in a T-shirt working on Baby, how long has it been since we have seen that? The motel room # 200, just like in PONR with room #100. Yes, their voices were beautiful. When I heard about a musical episode, I thought Sam and Dean were going to have to sing. I like the tidbits they give us like the room number (not that I am all that observant on the first viewing).
Dean throwing the gun in the trunk and saying we have work to do. At the school when they first walk in and listen to the girls practicing their lines, Just watch Dean's facial expressions thru that whole scene, he is hilarious. I get a special feeling every time they say “we have work to do”
This has so much classic Sam and Dean, in it, sweet, nerdy Sam in the tech room playing with the gadgets and Dean with his speech to give someone motivation, They both seemed so in tune and relaxed with each other. It may not last long but I loved that they were on the same page for this episode. Dean in the background of the play nodding his head in time to the music, he was so into it. ::smiley-laughing002:: The girl told Sam to not play with the electronics and he could not resist. Sam asks Calliope why SPN, she says SPN has everything, life, death, resurrection redemption and above all FAMILY. and it does have everything. This little show that could has made it 10 years, and that is exceptional in today’s tiny attention span when everyone is so busy and can't give anything a chance to see if it is good or not. SPN doesn't hit home runs all the time with episodes and I certainly don't think it is the best show ever, but it is good and fills a spot that is really needed on TV. It’s strange but the episodes I did not like the first time around seemed okay when I watched them on the DVDs.
Very nice.Anti, The Metatron title card was from S9 Meta Fiction, it showed for just a little bit and then switched to SPN title card. Thanks
Chuck did vanish at the end of S5 and we never saw anything else to tell us what happened. I think that if Chuck is/was actually God on SPN he could hide that he is God so that Cas and the other angels couldn't sense him. Thanks for reminding me that God is omnipotent. They diss God so much on SPN that it is easy to forget that. Being omnipotent, God could snap his finger and make them “un-remember” him or he could just hide his presence.

The second viewing helped me to remember some more things I liked. November mentioned Dean's bow so I looked for it and that was nice. BadWolf mentioned Jensen looking at the camera following the Destiel comments. That was priceless. The girls made the Ghostfacer's signature move. Dean looked shocked. The Samulet hitting the actress' lips - that is the reason given for Jensen no longer wanting to wear it. During action scenes, it would swing and hurt him. If I remember correctly, they made a light weight duplicate until they could write it out of the show. The Impala's engine was squeaky clean. I laughed when Dean used a shotgun to hold the trunk open. Only a Winchester. That was a non-threatening ghost in the first scene, but the girl gave an excellent scream. Cas looked very cute with his little white wings. The THEN highlight was extremely brief. When Dean quoted "Rent", they said "not enough to get us in trouble". They are outrageous and funny.

I forgot to mention one of the best parts, or maybe the most emotional part to me. At the end when Sam and Dean are in the wings watching fake Sam and Dean in the car and Dean's eyes are moist and Sam has a little smile on his face, I think they both felt the love they had for each other in that moment and it was sweet to see that. I don't think they will be on the same page with each other for the rest of the season, but it was great to see it in this episode.

The "Route 66" sign in the sunset background has to be a tribute to Kim Manners -- his dad was Sam Manners, who was in charge of production on the 60s series Route 66.

Good observation. I loved "Route 66" and was so excited when an episode brought them through my town (via a detour).
