Brother moments

what I like about this show is the brothers and their little moments they have together. The show never fails to deliver that. Even if its the most crappy episode ever, there is always a scene or two that makes the crappy episode golden, and I think that it's the brothers together interacting. There are many moments, but I will go with one of my personal favorites; it's the episode where Sam died in Dean's arms. I think they played that scene well, and it was probably most heartbreaking because it's obvious Sam died a painful death, yet his big brother was with him during his last moments. Just the anguish on Dean's face spoke volumes. UGH! It's possibly my favorite scene of the entire series.

I like the scene you mentioned.

I love the prank war in hell house with them. We need another prank war with them.

The hug between them when Dean came back from hell.

I love when Sam asked Dean how to talk to girls. It was not a direct face to face brother scene but it was adorable.

The "I'm gonna rip his lungs out" scene when they were younger.

The Christmas episode when it was Dean's last year and they gave each other gifts and drank egg nog.

Both scenes with Sam giving back the amulet.

The July Forth memory.

Aww I love reading the love for these characters or because of these characters.

I watch for that bond, how could you not, its there every minute. I'd just rather also see them together. Last season we had them together and they hardly even acknowledged one another and this season the writers have them apart and talking about each other. We can't win lol.

Ah so many but I love this season 702 in the warehouse. Stone No 1, so genuine, holding his little brothers hand, telling him he's his big brother and he's the real and the only one that can legitimately kick his ass. And also giving him that hope because they are together. And the trust in Sams eyes, he not only believes but he wants it and needs his big brother.

It would be hard for me to pick which brotherly moment I love because I love all of them. Dean and Sam have such a powerful big brother/little brother relationship. I love their bickering like in Tall Tales. I am laughing just thinking about it. When they work as a team to get rid of the ghosts and demons is always wonderful. The touching moments like the hugs Sam and Dean share just grab me every time.

I actually just watched Swan Song and cried from beginning to end because the brotherly moments between Sam and Dean spoke so much as I watched them. As Dean said, "It goes against every fiber of his being" when talking about agreeing with Sam to say yes to Lucifer.

Hello, Cruel World was also a great example. Dean talking Sam out of his hallucination and grabbing his hand and telling him to make him Stone #1 was the protective big brother Dean I love. Sam was so scared and you could see how much he needed his big brother.

I think it would be great if we saw Sam give Dean back the amulet. That would be a great moment. Looking forward to seeing some more brotherly moments in the second half of season 7.

As I mentioned my list is never ending on which brotherly moments I love the most. We have had so many and hopefully many more thanks to the great acting by Jared and Jensen.

I loved that whole episode. Misha's acting was crazy crazy, that I actually enjoyed him on my screen, but also the way Dean tended to Sam through out was exactly the kind of Dean the writers should show more often. I liked the first scene between Dean and Sam in that episode where Dean kept trying to reach Sam, who was obviously lost in his own head with Lucifer. You could just see how concerned he was about Sam, but wanted Sam with him in the there and now because they still had Cas to worry about. I could go on and on about that episode. It was my favorite of the season. we shall see if the rest of the episodes this season will change my mind.

When Dean saves Sam from being choked to death by the lamp cord and then Sam just sort of falls on him and Dean hugs him.

S1- Ep 17: Hell House
The whole entire episode! xD All of the pranking just tickled me to death. I miss those days! *sighs wistfully*

S1- Ep 21: Salvation
The moment in the cabin when Dean tells Sam that Jess and Mom are dead and not coming back. It was like a direct parallel to the season in the Pilot. I loved that whole scene between them. Dean telling Sam he and Dad are all he's got, Sam nearly crying. Love it.

S2- Ep 4: Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
The entire ending scene, with Sam and Dean sitting on the hood of the Impala.

S2- Ep 9: Croatoan
After Sam is attacked, the whole scene with Sam and Dean locked up in the doctor's office. Sam wanting the gun so he could kill himself before becoming one of those monsters. Dean not letting him, and staying there with him. The crying and the talk. Great brother moment.

S2- Ep 13: Houses of the Holy
The whole ending scene between Sam and Dean with Sam talking about how he wanted to believe in angels in hopes he'd be saved, and Dean believing he saw God's Will. Beautiful scene.

S2- Ep 15: Tall Tales
The whole bloody episode! There's nothing like watching two brothers fighting and rolling around on the bed and to the floor over a money clip.

S2- Ep 17: Heart
The ending scene between Sam and Dean, where Dean seeks out a devastated Sam after he leaves the room and realization that he'll have to kill Madison hits him. What a wonderful scene between that protective, comforting, big brother Dean and the brokenhearted, vulnerable Sam. ♥

S2- Ep 21: All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 1
Sam dies in Dean's arms... 'nuff said.

S2- Ep 22: All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 2
After Dean brings Sam back and comes back to the shack they were staying in and finds Sam alive, the way Dean practically dives on him and hugs him. The ending scene where Sam insists on Dean telling him the truth and discovers the truth that Dean sold his soul for him. Sad and poignant.

S3- Ep 3: Bad Day At Black Rock
The whole episode.

S3- Ep 7: Fresh Blood
The scene and Sammy's speech about looking up to Dean all of his life, trying to be just like him and that he just wants Dean to drop the show and be his brother again. So sad... such a great moment.

S3- Ep 8: A Very Supernatural Christmas
The whole episode. Nothing more needs to be said.

S3- Ep 11: Mystery Spot
The whole episode. ESPECIALLY the hug!

S3- Ep 16: No Rest For the Wicked
Right before the clock strikes midnight, Dean tells Sam to keep fighting, take care of his wheels and to remember what he taught him. I cried so hard during that scene. Amazingly heartbreaking and wonderful scene. The ending scene, where Sam cries over Dean, and Dean strung up on the rack in Hell screaming for Sam.

S4- Ep 1: Lazarus Rising
The hug between the two brothers and Sam's realization that Dean was truly back.

S4- Ep 10: Heaven and Hell
Dean's Hell confession and the comfort Sam tries to offer... it's so hard to watch and yet such a good brother scene.

S5- Ep 18: Point of No Return
From the time Dean shows up in the beautiful room to rescue his brothers, to him "pretending" to say yes to Zachariah, winking at Sam and killing Zach, willing pulling Sam to his feet, and then the whole ending scene with them in the truck. I loved that so much.

S5- Ep 22: Swan Song
Every brother moment in this episode... all of it.

S6- Ep 12: Like a Virgin
THE HUG!!!!

S6- Ep 14: Mannequin 3- The Reckoning
The beginning scene with Dean trying to wake Sam. Sam waking up, Dean helping him up and Dean trying to be comforting and helpful after Sam says he feels like he was hit by a planet.

S7- Ep 2: Hello, Cruel World
The whole scene where Dean brings Sam back to reality, and the ending scene in the ambulance where Dean calls out for Sam while Sam is in the throes of hallucination and seizures.

That's pretty much it... it's funny how the brother moments were so thick in the earlier seasons, but they just got fewer and fewer as the seasons have gone on... Sad, really. But yeah. Those are my favorites.

I agree with every one of your examples rqr. Great list. I have also seen them getting fewer and farther between in the later seasons. A real shame and I don't get why. Their relationship is the heart of the show and the reason a lot of people watch. I feel sometimes like the writers are deliberately teasing us now; giving us a tiny brotherly breadcrumb 2 or 3 times a season when it used to be that many an episode. This season I can only think of the scene in HCW, and we are over half way through. Disappointing.

Another one I would add is the scene in "Jump the Shark" Dean was very comforting to Sam as he was putting pressure on his bleeding wrists. I wonder if the dialogue of "Here we, ok, here we, here we go buddy" was more Jensen's doing and improve rather than Dean lol.

In Like a Virgin I absolutely love how Dean was drinking in the actions of classic Sam, from using his famously empathetic eyes to convince the victim's sister to let them in the house to his disapproval of Dean stealing the diary. Dean was loving every moment and Sam was clueless to why. The best part was when the real Sam returned, the real Dean did too. My roommate nicknamed roboSam "Shell-Sam" but in watching Like A Virgin we realized that the first half of season six Dean was also "Shell Dean".

I can't believe you left "Nightshifter" off of your list. It was the perfect episode. Both Sam and Dean figured prominantly in it and the guy who played "Ron" was just right for the role. Plus, the way they escaped the bank was outstanding. I could listen to Jensen saying "We are SO screwed," over and over again. Oh yes, and we were first introduced to Hendricks in this episode. I was always sorry he got killed off in "Jus In Bello."

I agree, great list rqr- and it is a terrible shame that they seem to dwindle as the seasons go on. Hopefully we'll be adding a great deal more to this list.

That's one of my very favorite moments as well! In fact I just went back and watched Salvation a few days ago. A lesser actor couldn't have delivered the line "...and it's all I have" with the depth, sadness, and fear that Jensen delivered it with. It breaks my heart everytime I watch it.

Another moment that is a fave of mine that I don't think was mentioned in this thread is the "magic talking board" scene in "In My Time of Dying" (Season 2 Episode 1) where Sam and Dean realize they can communicate with one another are so relieved and then Sam's realization that if a reaper is after Dean that they may not be able to stop it.

Another brother moment is in season two when Dean finds the Gin and gets sent in to an alternative world. At the end it was hard for him not to leave that world because he sees Sam and he sees somebody who is truly happy. He has Jess, a job, mother, lived a normal life. But Dean realized that even though Sam has everything that Dean wants for him to have, the one think missing was the friendship and bond that they share in the real world. And Dean couldn't live with that. So even though it hurt to go back to a world where sam doesn't have anything he had in the alternative world, in the end Sam has Dean and Dean has Sam. Loved it!

Bar none my favorite is from Heart - just as Sam has to go kill Madisen. He is in agony, and lets every bit of it show to his brother as he could never with anyone else. But the kicker for me, is how much pain Dean is clearly in. He doesn't have to kill anyone he cares about, but he is nearly as devastated as his Brother, just becuse he knows Sammy is wrecked. That is love.

Brother moment from Episode one Season one



Dean, after dropping of his brother to go back to living his life of normalcy, senses that something is wrong. He feels a chill around him and without even thinking about it drives straight back to Sam's apartment. Once he arrives he realizes that his senses were right, and that Sam is in danger. After he kicked down the door to Sam's apartment he ran to his room and saw one of his worst memories come back to life; his family being in danger again. Seeing Sam trashing around on the bed, repeatedly calling out the name of his lover, "Jess, JESS!" Dean tried to get Sam's attention, but Sam wasn't having it. After realizing that Sam was in shock that his girlfriend was burning and dying on the ceiling, he quickly grabbed Sam by his front sweater and pulled him out of bed, and forcefully dragged him out of the room before both of them end up dying in that room. That would be the second time Dean had to carry Sam out of a burning building.

Season one episode two


The infamous line, "Saving people, hunting things, the family business" That scene depicted the whole point of the series. But it also provided a scene between Sam and Dean, that showed Dean taking care of his little brother. By telling him, "You gotta have patience man" which is ironic because Dean isn't following his own advice 7 years later. He is filled with a lot of anger, that at times seems as though it's going to kill him. But that moment at the woods was about Dean making sure Sam was on the straight an arrow. My favorite scene in the episode.
