The Novaks return to Supernatural. Is this a good thing? Will Claire be less annoying in this episode? What about her mom? Will she resemble anything normal? How will Cas handle Jimmy's family? Why is he involving Dean and Sam? Watch, rate and discuss.

The following EW article is Jensen's take on Dean's current mindset. The "spoiler" part talks about tonight's episode. (Liane Hentscher/The CW) Supernatural Posted April 29 2015 — 3:25 PM EDT
Supernatural’s Dean Winchester has made a lot of life-or-death decisions, but it seems allowing the Mark of Cain onto his arm may be his worst one yet. The Mark turned him into a carefree demon at the end of last season—and now it’s slowly returning him to that form. In fact, Dean’s descent has already begun. “If you go back to the beginning of the season with Demon Dean, there was truly a devil-may-care attitude that he possessed—lack of attitude, lack of anger, lack of anything. There was no feeling. He just didn’t care,” Jensen Ackles told EW. “If you notice, Dean’s starting to fall [back] into that attitude a little bit. I wanted to bring a little bit of that into [present-day Dean] to show you that, if things go wrong, then this attitude could get a lot darker and a lot deeper and a lot more pronounced.” But Dean isn’t fully gone just yet. At this point, he’s still cracking jokes, but as Ackles put it, “It’s more of a mask.” “If you really want to psychoanalyze it, he’s covering up what’s going on inside, and the best way he knows how to do that is to be his happy jovial self,” Ackles said, adding “Or as happy and jovial as Dean can be.” And Dean will get a chance to be his “happy and jovial” self when he takes a bit of a break from the Mark of Cain in tonight’s hour, thanks to the arrival of Castiel’s sort-of daughter, Claire. Although Dean and Claire ended things on a sour note during their last meeting, Ackles did tease that things are looking up between the pair.
“Dean’s tolerance for our modern day teenagers is not much,” Ackles said with a laugh. “That being said, it certainly ends on a better note than it did last time. I think we’ve seen this before: The very reluctant relationship ends up being the most satisfying when it actually comes together.”
With that in mind, this week will focus a bit more on Castiel and Claire’s relationship. But as fans know, Sam already has other ways to further his Mark of Cain research. And when Dean eventually finds out about his brother’s plan, well, “he’s not going to be happy,” Ackles said.
“It’s not that he doesn’t want his brother to help. It’s that he knows that if his brother continues to help, it’s going to put his life in danger,” the actor continued. “And maybe not just his life. Maybe other people’s lives. And we’ll see the consequences of why Dean is so angry with Sam when he finds out what’s going on. Dean’s fears of what could happen kind of come true, and it’s a pretty unfortunate situation.”

I really enjoyed the episode and it was a pleasant surprise to see them give Jimmy and Amelia their happy ever after. I never expected to see that. I enjoyed the more mature Claire and understood her bitterness about losing both parents. I especially enjoyed Dean explaining that Jimmy was a hero for letting Castiel use his vessel to save the world. I could tell that made Claire feel better. Dean and Claire bonded pretty well and maybe we will see both Claire and Jody together in the future. I did not think Dean lost control in the bar. A little roughness was the only way he could get answers from the man. I thought Sam and Cas hurt Dean’s feelings when they told him to stay at the motel, but then I realized Dean is not overly sensitive and does whatever he wants. Good for you Dean! I wonder if Jared read the script and groaned when he saw how quickly he gets knocked out by the rogue angel.

4I enjoyed the episode...mostly. I still don't understand why Cas seems so low energy angel. Did he get his grace back? Shouldn't he be able to summon people to him, find them in an instant and all that? One minute he seems all powerful and the next he's uhm, at half staff. As for Dean, I agree AA, I didn't think what he did in the bar constituted his "getting worse" comment by Cas. The place he seems to go ballistic was with the rogue angel. He had the same look on his face that he did facing down Abbadon. Guess the gidril is more powerful than a demon. Loved Dean giving Claire the handgun, "Happy birthday, don't shoot me." Claire was definately less annoying, especially in her hair style. But even though she's gone to Jody, I don't want to see her again. I hope the Novak's story is at an end. Glad Jimmy and Amelia are in Heaven together. I wonder if there are more of those gidrils around? Probably, right? Next week looks good, too.

I agree that Castiel and the MoC should have been able to handle the gidril better than they did. The rogue angel said there were more of them so maybe we will see them next season. We don't have time for that crap this season. Castiel at half staff? We should mention that to Misha and see his naughty reaction. I liked that "Happy birthday. Don't shoot me." line too. Dean let her keep the sword. I am pretty sure that is why he gave her the book about Enochian.

So, I really liked this episode but I had to watch it several times to appreciate it. Claire never bothered me as much as Krissy did, I have always liked Claire, she at least seems more mature than Krissy ever will. I thought her bonding moments with all 3 guys and her little moment with her mom were good, I have read comments that people thought Claire was unaffected by her mom's death, that isn't true, she was about to cry when she hugged Cas and in the cab. Some people won't cry in front of others they wait till they have privacy before they let their guard down. I liked how she stood up to the Grigori angel, even thought there wasn't much she could do to keep him from hurting her and her mom. I think the reason Cas couldn't heal Amelia was the Grigori angel's power was too strong to overcome Cas couldn't understand why he couldn't heal her, and when the MOC took hold of Dean and he went after the bad angel he couldn't even knock him down. Dean was able to take down Cain and Abbadon when he looked like that, but he barely made a dent on this guy. Things that were great- Cas giving Claire Grumpy Cat. Claire and Dean playing mini golf, Claire hugging Cas, Jimmy and Amelia in heaven and Willie Nelson singing at the end, though I think I had something in my eye towards the end of the episode, darn allergies. Things that make me worry about Cas, Dean and Sam. Sam didn't try to talk Claire away from living life on the road, he actually seemed to encourage it with the credit cards, and teaching her how to do things that would make it easier. They weren't that far from Jody's why didn't they drive her there? Sam seemed very matter of fact and a little less sensitive as if he is making peace inside himself with what he is doing to save Dean but losing part of himself in the process. Dean gave Claire a GUN, yea, he took it back, but why did he take her with him? Why didn't he try harder to dissuade her from where she seems headed (hunter life) Dean seems as if he is just barely holding it together, as if it all he can do to seem normal. Cas, -the guilt just rolls off of him with what has happened to Claire and Amelia and it bothers him so much, I am worried he might try and do something at the end of the season to atone his guilt and find some peace for how he feels. I just don't like where this seems to be headed. All 3 guys were great, and I loved the emotion they all brought, but I am honestly worried about how this season will end. This seems like it will be worse than last season and I hated where they went with last year.

I could've sworn the mom was killed seasons ago! Anyway it was an okay episode. These episodes with Castiel playing daddy are so pointless and boring. I'm so disappointed this is what he's been reduced to this season.

I think they did not try to change Claire's mind because they knew that would be futile. She is strong willed and she is now 18. I just hope she does not go on an angel-hunting crusade with that blade. That would be a suicide mission. My guess was that Castiel could not heal Amelia because she lost chunks of her soul rather than the blood. That angel was one of the oldest angels and apparently those angels are stronger than the Garrison angels. Maybe he/they will be the big bad next season. Where is Archangel Michael when we need him?
