Mr. Robot is a new series on the USA Network. The pilot was released early to watch either On Demand or on-line. I watched it and I think the main character carried the show very well. My eyes were glued to the TV the entire time; that usually only happens during an action movie, but this one was fascinating even though there is no violence at all.
The following is an excerpt from a review that was written after the show surprised critics by winning an audience award.
"Mr. Robot" is told strictly from the point of view of Elliot (Rami Malek***), a brilliant computer expert with a fondness for hoodies, recreational heroin use and using his internet skills for vigilante justice. Facing the world with an awkward, Zuckerberg-esque affect ***Elliot hates the world in front of him and wants to change it, one asshole at a time. But when he meets the leader of "fsociety" (Slater) — a hacker even more anarchic and skilled than him, who's interested in truly tearing down the whole system — that point of view is put to the test.
Malek, given the task of leading the series, proves more than capable of the challenge; by definition, Elliot features no shortage of unsympathetic attributes, but there's something in his eyes that reveals a certain vulnerability, even in his darkest moments. Perhaps what makes the character work is his fondness for the people in his life, from co-worker and childhood friend Angela (Portia Doubleday) to therapist Krista (Gloria Reuben). Or perhaps it's the fact that you can't help but agree with him about the massive problems underlying today's modern world.

I have watched three episodes. This show is unique and is certainly worthy of all the hype about it. My son-in-law has an interesting theory on what is happening and I checked the internet to see if anyone else shared the theory. No one else seems to have considered it, but I think he is right so I re-watched episode 1 for clues. That made it even more interesting.

Good write-up. I love this series and the characters are fascinating. Rami Malek is mesmerizing as Elliot, the hacker. I would not put him in the category of a computer nerd; there is much more to him than that.

Mr. Robot is one of my favorite shows and I am glad you enjoyed it.
They showed 2 episodes of the second season in one week. I am intrigued to see what the big mystery will be this season.

I don't watch it (for one thing, I don't pay for the channel) but I found an article in one of the newspapers I look at.
I don't know whether I've found it online.

Rami Malek is so mesmerizing as Elliott (the hacker) that we feel as though we are part of his psychosis. Fascinating show.

Robot 2.0 continues to be one of my favorite shows. I want Elliott to start hacking harmful individuals again, but I do not think that will happen this season. Last week, he was prepared to do that to people who operate on the dark net, but he got severely beat up before he made up his mind.
I enjoyed last night's episode very much. The opening scenes were shot in the mode of TV during the 50's or 60's. Elliott was on a road trip with his family and we knew something weird was happening when we saw Alf, the character from the TV show...the one that likes to eat cats, and we kept hearing a laugh track. The road trip was macabre but also amusing. I think it was a clever way of getting us past the aftermath of the severe beating that Elliott suffered.
Angela did a good job with the hack of the FBI.

I was way off on the decade for the beginning of the episode. That was supposed to represent the 90's, not the 50's.

I agree that Mr. Robot is an excellent show. People criticize "Scorpion" for not being true to science, but this show does not have that problem. They use actual computer code during the hacks and they are advised by coding experts. I would not ordinarily be rooting for a hacker, but the show is about more than hacking. It's focus is on the characters and their relationships with family, friends, co-workers and society. I have forgiven them for tricking us about what was happening with Elliott. TheFlashFan What do you think of Elliott's circumstances? Were you surprised?

Elliot's sister, Darlene, might turn into a serial killer and I bet he would be surprised. The guy who was helping Darlene saw what she was capable of and he betrayed her anyway. Head meet baseball bat. Mobley (hacker with a beard) was constantly stressed out about the Dark Net guys, but he was cool when the FBI pressured him for information. Good for him. He sent a message to Trenton to meet him and she waited two hours because she did not know the FBI had picked him up. One of the agents will probably keep pursuing the case even though she was told to back off. Leaking the FBI conference call about operation "Benedict" was a brilliant move to cause problems for the FBI. I still think Angela acts weird. I was surprised to see her sing in the bar, but she sang the song in a depressed manner. I guess Malek and Slater worked so hard in the previous episode, they were given a week off. The preview showed Elliot will be back in the next episode.

Trenton seems like a strange name for a girl. I knew her father would not agree to move and she could not easily tell him the family is in danger. I have a feeling it will not end well for her.

S2.09 "eps2.7init5.fve"
Elliot and Darlene are back together and they shared a warm hug. That was nice because Eliot usually does not show affection through touching.
The Dark Army is not happy that Elliot approached them. But the Big Surprise was they said Stage 2 was Elliot's idea. Why does he not remember and what is Stage 2?
The Dark Army know Trent and Mobley (the bearded hacker) are missing and they seem to know something about that.
Angela is smarter than people realize and they keep underestimating her.

I thought Angela was weird, but Darlene is much stranger. I am wondering if she is setting the guy up, the one she sent back to look for the VHS tape.
