I'm tired of the lack of man meat in not just my area but my state. Where do you think i should move to? I didn't want to list all 50 states on the poll so i decided to go with regions although now i think that was more complicated. That should make things more interesting. I had to abbreviate the longer states cuz i ran out of room. * Since i saw many mistakes on the poll, i have to edit and type it all again. **Poll is done. This time with only 1 mistake... It shall stay. I didn't have to retype everything after all. Turns out it was already saved so when i typed the first letter, the options came up.

I won't be more specific about where I live, but it would be nice if you could be the cashier at my grocery. All the good ones disappear for some reason. Then I get new ones who I have to train. I do not use plastic bags. I am forced to take them at some stores and can use them to step on to keep from messing up the carpet, but all the grocery stores I go to have paper bags. I use those for trash and recyclables and to pack stuff in to go to the mountains or the beach. My trash and recycling, if I put a top on each trash bag, takes six bags a week. Recycling is supposed to be loose.
And all refrigerated stuff goes in separate bags. One Sunday I discovered canned biscuits in a bag after buying them on Saturday. See, I don't put stuff away right away. I just leave it in the bags. There is no real place to put anything. Why exactly do they think canned biscuits don't qualify as refrigerated? I have to have them where they need to go to be put away right away. And the nerve of asking if I need my milk to go in a bag. No, I enjoy putting milk jugs in the filthy trunk of my car and cleaning off those jugs when I get home. And don't put two gallons in one bag in the summer. The bag will break.

I got another new cashier. Had to explain to her everything that I said above, except the specific reasons why, which I never tell them. And when she was through the bags just sat there. No one was putting them in my cart. Hey, I put them in the car myself and take them inside. The least you can do is ...
And without my having to say anything, she finally got around to it after finishing with the next person.

That's twice I've had to just stand there as the cashier went to the next customer, while my bags are sitting there waiting to be put in the cart. I'm going to have to put them in the car and take them inside. The least you could do is put them in the cart. They finally realize this, eventually.

Actually, if you want to help the environment, it takes longer for paper bags to deteriorate than it does for plastic... Much longer. But it doesn't take as many paper bags to bag the groceries and depending on the store, most don't have handles so they aren't used as often. My company policy is to automatically bag them in plastic unless the customer brings their own bags, requests to buy our reusable bags, or asks for paper. Their theory is that the customer will ask if they don't want plastic. Of course we have our regular customers so depending on how smart (or not) the cashier is he/she should be able to know ahead of time. Gallons of milk shouldn't be put in a bag at all... No matter what kind of bags you are using. Jmho.

No matter what kind of bags you are using. Jmho. I don't like having to think to tell them. At one store where I don't shop as often this one woman knew yesterday. But here's the issue. Plastic bags are not capable of standing up and the stuff will fall over and even roll out. When I put trash in the cans that I roll out to the street, the paper bags stand up and I don't have to spend the money on the Hefty bags to put them in. In the house, the paper bags are fine (usually) for putting that trash in until Saturday, the day I used to go to the dump. The correct term is "convenience center". Now that we're incorporated, our trash is picked up, but after all these years I still load the cans on Saturdays. Regarding the milk, I believe I said above that I don't want the clean jugs touching my filthy trunk. Okay, since I got a "new" car eight years ago (has it really been eight years?) the trunk isn't that bad. Plastic bags were a problem because I dropped the milk once when trying to carry one. The jug broke. I had to take it back to the store and show them. They got me a new one. No more plastic bags for milk. I also put my bottles, cans, boxes and jugs for recycling in the bags. Yes, we can put it in loose. I don't think that's a good idea, though I do it with the newspapers.

There's more options out there than just plastic, paper, or reusable. In fact, our store sells reusable plastic bags made out of recycled material for only $.10, our more popular reusable bags for $.99, and we also sell collapsible totes for $4.49 which of course i sometimes end up having to restock. Martins is really big in trying to help the community and that is one of our ways of helping. Honestly, i don't like the 10 cent bags... But you get what you pay for. As for the totes, i like that you can place a lot of groceries in the bag but it's harder to pack so you would need to use them a few times until you got the hang of it. Even more so if you don't like bagging the groceries yourself. Me? I don't mind it. In fact, it doesn't bother me on way or the other.

Oh, and yet another reason to move: Doctors and hospitals. There are absolutely no good docs around this area because they are all turning into 1 main hospital- Penn Highlands. *shudder* No good family docs, the specialists are $ money hungry, and i have to drive at least 40 miles round trip to see a decent dentist. Case in point: The closest ear/nose/throat specialist ruined my mom's eardrum after putting tubes in her ears to help with vertigo. Another example: I went to a dermatologist about a rash on my leg. It took me 3 months in order to get into my family doc (more my fault than his) a month and a half wait to see the specialist, a 45 min wait, followed my a 5 minute or less meeting with the doc. He examined it, prescribed a cream, and told me to call back if it doesn't work. First, if i had the rash for that long and i'd already tried numerous creams and remedies to cure it, why not do a scraping while i'm there? Or tell me to call back knowing that the cream wasn't going to help? I still haven't called back... I want to see someone else.

I keep hearing how good health care is around here. Of course, I'm pretty sure they're leaving out how expensive it is. My local hospital just got taken over by the biggest hospital in Charlotte. Even before that, though, they were promising and providing excellent care, and I know this is true from the week I was there three years ago. I had one bad experience but the person did a better job after I answered when asked if anything was unsatisfactory. Of course, the bill was beyond reasonable even after a discount. They finally forgave my bill (what hadn't been paid yet) after my cousin told them about my financial situation. My cousin did claim he had arranged a payment plan (I just let him handle everything while I was still not at home to access my checks and stuff) and I still got a very nice call from a collection agency. When I went to the hospital myself they told me exactly what to do and I handed it over to my cousin, who got things taken care of.
I had a good dentist for many years. He retired and there's a very nice Asian man there now.
As for bags, I would never use reusable bags. I want fresh clean bags. Then they get dirty. Or they might not. I take stuff to the beach or mountains in them. It's just easier than pulling out my big suitcase ahead of time. Plus my neighbors who I used to go to the mountains with got a new car with a trunk that's too small. Bags can be rearranged a lot more easily.
I never bag the groceries myself. The way it's set up now, you pretty much have to put the groceries up there for the cashier. If another employee is available, that person could do it, I suppose. Besides, they're better at bagging than I am.
I did buy canned biscuits and one can hadn't been home five minutes before it exploded. I have to remember to get a replacement but I can probably use it anyway now that it's wrapped. It just won't taste as good.

I had a good dentist for years and then he retired. New York recently raised their minimum wage to $15/hr. It's tempting to move up there but that would be closer to the casino which might not work out too well. If the temptation was there i might not be able to stop myself. Kyle, i can def tell that you are a Pisces... I live with 2 of them and they butt heads often. My mom and sis often wake me up with their arguing but eventually they work it out.

I had a bad experience with a new cashier. I know she was new because she started putting my stuff in plastic bags. When she got to the can of biscuits I told her I had one that had popped open in the refrigerator .,. I mean even before i put in the refrigerator. She asked if I didn't want it, which was a strange question. She didn't know what to do and ended up trading places with a more experienced person. I'm not sure just what happened to make that happen but she obviously didn't know what to do. The other person let me have the can of biscuits without paying. I figured someone would. If someone in charge had just said no, that would have been fine.

Found it. Rules to living in my neighborhood: (in no particular order) * Lock your car doors if you don't want anything stolen- Even if you are only staying for a few minutes. While it's unlikely for your car to be taken, the same can't be said for anything inside it. * Use speaker phone with caution. I will listen to whatever i can hear and later share what was said. * Own one or more "ankle biter" dog (s) and leave them outside to yip and yap day or night. * Buy an expensive vehicle and despite having a two-car garage, park along the street. (He claims that his garages are full of junk.) * Plant as many flowers or plants along your property in order to hide any shady activities. * Copy what each other does- Mow the grass, throw out the same items, buy the same type of vehicles, etc. * Plan and hold outdoor parties at least twice a week in the summer and at least once a month during the other seasons. * Watch out for skunks and other wild animals at night. * The only guns we see are the ones shown on tv or in a cop's holster. Anytime a gunshot is heard, it is assumed someone is hunting. * Avoid the "drug houses" so if anyone comes asking, you don't know anything. There may be more to come but that's it for now.

And once again this week someone new didn't know I didn't want plastic bags. And when I said everything refrigerated had to be separate, he proceeded to put soda on top of my turkey burgers. Yeah, I probably would have remembered. But I have been known to forget anything that didn't clearly have something refrigerated in it.
Also, I misplaced my MVP card and he used one rather than asking for my phone number. I get a printout if I scan the card but I can put in my phone number instead. I got a good deal on turkey burgers. It may not make a difference but they record everything I buy and somehow that translates into what coupons get printed out. Lately very few coupons have been useful so I often just recycle the whole sheet.

Actually, i have noticed that when you use the store card, it sometimes gives you coupons you might otherwise not get.
The first wave of food stamps came out today which meant that last night was steady for a weeknight. So glad i have the next 2 nights off.

Actually, i have noticed that when you use the store card, it sometimes gives you coupons you might otherwise not get. Right. That's what I was trying to say above. Someone at a store I don't usually go to started putting my stuff in plastic bags. Didbn't even bother to ask. I said something like, "No, don't do that." She stopped and asked what I said or what I wanted. I couldn't come up with a response. Sometimes that happens. I can't translate what I am thinking into words. Then she put more stuff in the plastic bag and I said, "I told her not to and she's still doing it." Someone finally came along and said to her that I wanted paper bags. The woman who lives next door to me and has all the cats has worked there but I don't know whether she still does. I've never had her check me out. It would just seem too weird.
