I can't believe they came up with new ways to cause me problems.
What is this? I need to put my stuff down, meaning car keys, credit card, coupons not used, MVP card when he gives it back, driver's license ... but there's a card with a pen. It's to thank a veteran. Get it out of the way, I said, because I need to put my stuff there.
Do you want your canned goods in a bag?
I'm not sure why I couldn't just say the soup could go in one bag but the biscuits could not. I just waited to see what he would do, and said I wouldn't answer because my answer was bound to be wrong. He did start to put the biscuits in the same bag and I said the biscuits were refrigerated. It's a good thing I caught that because I never took one of the bags out of the car and it could have been that one. I needed to transport something but didn't need to remove what was there to do it.
Do you want a buggy?
Well, my groceries have been bagged. I suppose I should just take them out to the car one bag at a time. It's a lot of extra walking and the bags are in the way of the next person. Oh, wait, why not take them two at a time? After all, they're quite heavy if I do it that way.
And I have a shopping cart already, if he'll just go and get it. No, he got a new one, and the four bags wouldn't fit. He put two in the top and two in the bottom where they're hard to get to.

Sometimes baggers have no common sense. Most of the baggers we have, have worked at the store for a while but i know the "good" ones from the "bad"... Like which ones are slow, the ones that ask too many questions, the new ones, etc. Or the ones that are sociable who actually converse w/the customers while they're bagging and ask questions such as "Would you like your gum/pop/water left out?" In fact, we recently held a "bagging contest" in our store. I didn't compete but one of our cashiers won the contest and her pic is featured at the service desk like a "Wanted" poster style with her name underneath. She's really proud of that and i think it's cool.

There was a murder in my neighborhood. It happened overnight Mon into Tues... The really sad part is, is that not only did i go to high school with her, she was a mom and her 6 year old son witnessed it. They locked down the area schools, put yellow tape around the house which is like 2 streets from me, and contacted CYS. I think that for once the pigs did it right but i just wish there would have been a shootout where the guy who did it was shot before being taken in... Yeah, so apparently he stabbed her in the stomach and then stabbed her 6 times in the head... There are no details about where she died, but i'm guessing inside the house or somewhere in the perimeter. I predict that there will be revenge and he will be killed or commit suicide while there... The world really is going to hell when it happens in what is considered a "safe area" right in the city. Nicole wasn't one of my closest friends, but i remember during our senior year of high school, we had English and then the last lunch of the day together... Every day she would braid my hair while in English and then we would go to lunch together. Often times, i still had the braid at the end of the day.

Oh, and the lock down at the schools only lasted until their regular leave time. It certainly put a lot of stress on everyone in the area, because the crime happened at about 2:45am on Monday and he wasn't caught until about 7:30pm last night. Like i said, i'm glad he was found but would have preferred to have it end violently for him than to have the tax dollars front the costs.

Thanks.
The man who did it is in custody but he's claiming he didn't do it... Even though her son opened the door for the first cops on the scene, stated that "Joe killed my mom" and other evidence. If he was innocent, then he would have called 911 and not fled the scene. Joe wanted the attention and i believe he killed her because she was trying to leave him. His last facebook post was something about "People don't help like they used to... Been looking for a vehicle for a month now." No one posted.
No word on her daughter that is about 11. She must be staying with family as well.

I have my newspaper handy:
Here are the important details:
Du Bois City police arrived at the scene around 3 am Tuesday for a routine check after a 911 call was traced back to the apartment. When Clearfield County Control took the call at 2:51am, a man and woman could be heard talking and a child crying in the background. A 7 year old boy answered the door, covered in his mother's blood, telling police "Joe Killed my mom," "Joe stabbed my mom and killed her." According to the affidavit of probable cause, police found Nicole Snyder kneeling on the floor, bleeding profusely from her neck. When police asked her who did it, she pointed to the back door. She was declared dead at 3:11am.
Following the murder, local law enforcement officials would embark on a 15 hour manhunt for Snyder's boyfriend, Joseph Robert Fields, 35. The search was largely focused in the Mount Pleasant Road Area of Penfield, after finding his abandoned car. Fields was apprehended about 6pm in that area. He is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and murder of the first degree. He is now in Clearfield.
The Du Bois community also continues to reel from the tragedy blending together to remember Snyder and raise funds for her two children.
A candlelight vigil will be held beginning at 7pm today. Attendees are asked to bring their own candle.
Her obituary isn't posted yet but i believe she was 33 or 34. Way too young.

Yup. No one deserves to die like that, no matter what the circumstances are. She was a mom and a good person that just had a tough life. I was able to say my goodbye's despite my current schedule. She may be an angel now but Joe's hell will soon begin.

I'm sorry, Kimba.
Let's talk about something more positive. I got a cashier who mostly knew what she was doing this week.
She didn't put my hot dogs with the refrigerated stuff, which this week was just a gallon of milk. Fortunately, I noticed. And next week it's time to get biscuits. They don't seem to understand about biscuits. I have mentioned here forgetting them if they weren't in with other refrigerated stuff.

Yup. Life goes on... I guess it's just hitting too close to home.
That's good that you finally had a positive shopping experience... I'm curious to know which stores you have around there.

I went to Harris Teeter yesterday. That was once regarded as "upscale" but Kroger bought it so they have low prices. The cashier started putting my stuff in plastic bags but when I said no she said, "Absolutely." She was very poilte. Something my usual Food Lion hasn't had much of lately, at least from the cashiers.
We also have one Ingle's. All three chains are based in North Carolina but only Ingle's doesn't have a parent company from somewhere else. Bi-Lo is also close enough for me to shop at occasionally, and there are two Lowes that aren't close enough I go there often, but I might occasionally. That's still regarded as "upscale". If the name sounds familiar, the same family also started a hardware store which has become Home Depot's biggest competitor.
Aldi has some stores but they expect you to bring your bags or buy them and they only have one brand for each product, so if you don't like the brand they chose, too bad. Very low prices aren't worth that. We had Sav-A-Lot but that didn't last.
Oh, yeah, Walmart also has groceries. In fact, a small one is near enough I could shop there. Target has a new-style store in the area, too, I believe, but they moved and I don't know how to get to the new one.

Everyone was really nice this past Saturday. The computer went down at one checkout lane so I had to move all my stuff to another. They offered to help me.

The closest one to me was bought by Giant Eagle, another was bought by Aldi. We have a Save-A-Lot but i only ever shop there when i need to go to the Dollar store since they are beside each other. Shop 'N Save recently closed down (2 locations) so a lot of the customers are coming to Martin's. More business for us.

Just when I think customer service can't get any worse ...
The girl puts my stuff in plastic bags before I even notice she was doing it. I had to tell her no. And she was going to put my hot dog buns on top of my other stuff which I needed right away, while the hot dog buns might not be able to go in the refrigerator, so I had to get her to put those in another bag. Do I want my milk in a bag? That's covered above.
But here's what really got me. What exactly was I supposed to do with those bags? She just went right on to the next customer. All the other cashiers either do this or have someone doing it while they do the rest. My bags just sat there. They were not put in my shopping cart. I just went out to the car and opened it up and opened the trunk and debated about whether to drive up. No, I just walked back in. Bags still there, shopping cart gone. Without saying a word, I walked each bag out to the car. Separately. Yes, I need the exercise, and I do this at home anyway, but still ...
Oh, I was out of buns. So there was room in the refrigerator. They last longer there. I eat two a week.

I guess you know not to go that cashier again. Oh, and an update on the murder i had posted about... Joseph Fields was sentenced to life in prison. And i believe Nicole's son is being raised by her grandparents while her daughter's dad has custody. Still a shame for kids that young to lose their mom.

There have been a lot of changes at my grocery store. They say it's to make shopping easier but the store was a mess and after each section got moved it got harder to find. I still haven't figured things out. Plus nearly every refrigerated section has a door that must be opened, making things even harder. Meanwhile, a newspaper article said a certain manager at corporate headquarters said he had heard no complaints. Well, he obviously hadn't heard from me.
One cashier decided to be helpful and put my bags in my shopping cart, which I suppose is an improvement over one time when nothing happened after I paid and I just left, but I knew I'd better come back for my groceries. The cart had been moved and the bags were in it. But the guy who was helpful managed to knock my coupon envelope on the floor and step on it.
And a couple of weeks ago I had a coupon for $4 off if I spent $40. I don't know what constitutes $40. I got a lot of stuff that was on sale and used a lot of coupons. I got out to the car and I decided I'd better check my receipt and didn't get the $4 off. I asked the cashier, who wasn't busy, why she didn't tell me so I could go back and get more stuff. It's their job to tell me if a coupon didn't work. I couldn't just go get more stuff because my credit card disappeared when I moved it so I wouldn't take it to the beach. I use a different one there. I had brought a check, though I found the new card the next time I went to the post office. She gave me back $4 and I didn't even have to speak to a manager. But I believe I spent $40. She looked at the total but of course that was less than $40.

An update on a couple of older posts. Dollar General moved from a smaller location to a former Walmart next door. Walmart has been closing their small stores. Well, of course they have. I was surprised they had small stores because their big ones weren't big enough. I went to the new one Saturday because Lysol was on sale and I had coupons from when one bottle leaked. Everyone was so nice.
And Aldi sells reusable bags. This makes me wonder whether if you don't bring your own there's any other kind. I would never use reusable bags.

It should come up on the screen when the coupon doesn't work. Sometimes when you buy government regulated items (at least at my store) it's not included in the total. (Milk, eggs, postage stamps, etc) And a lot of times you have to make that total AFTER the coupons have been scanned. But that's good that she didn't give you a problem about it. I wonder if she got in trouble for it later?

Her drawer would have been short $4 so someone would have noticed.
Oh, and on point i am moving to an apartment that's about 10 miles from where i am now. I'm not too happy about having to drive 20 miles/day but i'll be able to keep my cats which isn't easy to find in this area.
