Emerald City is on NBC don't look for it too last long. Hopefully. It's pretty dark but I couldn't help but be interested. I am confused, though. There's no rule that says the witches of the east and the west have to look at, but why did the Witch of the East appear after she died? I was fairly certain the Witch of the West was the woman who looked totally different, but maybe she wasn't a witch and was just from the west. No, we finally learned she was a witch. That sure was a nice hospital where Dorothy worked. It was actually in her small town? Doesn't seem realistic. Lucas is The Scarecrow, but he has amnesia and limps. How he will get to Emerald City I have to wonder. I can't walk all that far after my injury. Who is the boy? Does he represent the Tin Man? I'm confused as to how those people got to the land of The Munchkins so fast when Dorothy is taking such a long time to go in the other direction.

When I watched the first episodes on line, most of the scenes were very dim as if they took place in darkness and I had difficulty seeing what was happening. I could not see that the witch's gauntlet transferred to Dorothy. When I watched episode 3 on TV, it was very clear, and now I think I probably missed a lot.
I am enjoying the re-imagining and watch in suspense and anticipation of how each scene will play out.

My comments are in no particular order.
The suicide magic was an amazing event and the special effects are very good throughout the episode.
I like Toto being a Shepherd and a guardian.
Lucas’ comment that Dorothy and her gun are more dangerous than him and the soldiers was well said.
I do not like what happened to Jack because he was a good friend to Tip. How he became loyal to someone who had been locked away his entire life is a mystery.
I like D’Onofrio’s take on the Wizard. It is stronger than the sniveling wizard who used a fake voice to command respect. The woman he threw in jail is still a mystery. Her forecast was correct. I wonder if she is connected to Dorothy in some way.
When Dorothy walked across the lake, I thought she would control the weather. She might have done that if she had not been distracted by seeing her mother’s name on the coat. The guard said she chose to pick up the wrong thing and would not control the weather. I thought the tornado would suck the entire castle into the funnel, but it was still standing.
However, Dorothy does have some power; she just needs to learn how to use it.

I don't see how Lucas can walk as far as he has to. He walks like I do. Lately I've had trouble walking long distances.
I was surprised Dorothy was able to do as much as she did. I don't know how she got what the guard called elements. Did I get that right? She didn't officially succeed the other witch but pretending she did was the only way. And now her search for her mother will be interesting.
It took me a while to understand why Tip wanted the boy to have his medicine. Finally I heard the words that he had been changed into a woman. He'd better stay out of North Carolina. The legislature refused to give Tip the rights he would want. Actually, he's probably worse off in Oz.
I thought the women committing suicide had caught themselves before hitting the ground. Oh, now I remember. Jack did hit the ground. And yet the women still died.
If it's Emerald City, why is everything blue, not green?

Did you understand the significance of the name Frank Morgan? No, I had a feeling the name was significant and I wrote it down when The Wizard revealed the information, but I did not know that was the stage name of the man who played the original Wizard.

No, I had a feeling the name was significant and I wrote it down when The Wizard revealed the information, but I did not know that was the stage name of the man who played the original Wizard. Or at least the most famous one, since there were other versions.

Contains episode details for "Science and Magic".Jack: Somehow, Jack wound up in a hospital/lab and still breathing. When the scientist, Jane, turned on a saw and said “This won’t hurt a bit.”, I thought “famous last words”, but Jack survived and was turned into a tin man. Later, Jane walked Tinman up a thousand steps to introduce him to Lady Ev (Langwidere), the girl with many masks. I am not familiar with her character. Tip: Tip met a soldier while she was standing on the bridge staring at the snow-covered ground where Jack fell. She identified herself as a killer and offered to kill for the soldier. I thought that was weird, and he seemed to accept her offer. Instead of making her a soldier, he sold her to an orphanage for girls. Both Glinda and the Witch of the West want to own Tip and the girls in the orphanage to train them to be either counselors or courtesans. Dorothy: When Lucas and Dorothy were having a private moment, it was interrupted by a creepy child. How do children creep up on them like that? Dorothy’s attempt to locate the child’s parents was an unpleasant adventure. A couple who pretended to care about the child was turned to stone. Sylvie unintentionally caused that because she was afraid. Lucas: Once again, Dorothy, Lucas, Sylvie and Toto were on the run and encountered Eamonn. Eamonn recognized Lucas and called him Roan. He stalked Dorothy and Dorothy shot him with the gun and ran. Later, Dorothy and Lucas finally had their private moment when she demonstrated how music played from her phone. “Ain’t No Sunshine” was a nice song for their first kiss. They awakened to the sound of hoofbeats and came face to face with Eamonn. Wizard: Counselor Anna and Wizard traveled to Nimbo to investigate use of magic. Anna located a magical entrance and when she touched it, it shattered and she was injured. Alderman Jeremiah lied about using magic and could have been executed. Anna counselled Wizard to turn Jeremiah rather than make him a martyr. Jeremiah’s speech to his people to rely on science rather than magic sounded convincing until I saw soldiers holding a long blade to the stomach of Jeremiah’s very pregnant daughter. In case you missed it, below is a screenshot.

I'm glad Jack survived the fall because I like him. It was obvious to me when I saw the blue flame that we were about to meet the tin man.
I don't know if the scared girl is supposed to represent the lion but she sure did scared well. We have seen a lion in the circus.
When Dorothy was about to play music I was expecting some sort of contemporary junk. I hear the song she played on a radio station I like. Lucas seemed startled at how the device worked.
Jane's glasses made her look so pretty. I'm not pleased with the frames so many women these days think are attractive. But this world isn't exactly our world.

I did not think about the girl being the "cowardly" lion, but that would be an interesting twist. The lion in the circus could be a shifter, but there was nothing cowardly about it.
I did not pay attention to the eyeglasses.
This show has a lot of characters like OUAT and we still have not learned all of their stories.

Everybody Lies
The Wizard wants the King of Ev to join him in battling the monster from the sky. The King’s mind is slipping away and his daughter pretends the king is still leading his kingdom. Lady Ev refused to help the Wizard because he saved Emerald City and did not help Ev the last time the monsters came. Lady Ev and Jack had a private moment. I want to see what is behind her mask.
Apparently, Lucas did attack the soldiers because they wanted to see what was inside of a cart or carriage he was leading. It was not revealed what he was guarding. He turned himself over willingly to the soldiers.
The Witch of the West is more powerful than I realized. She tortured Dorothy with very little effort during an interrogation. She was able to assume someone else’s form to trick Dorothy and she “looked” at Dorothy’s memories. The witch is not as clever as I thought because she punished the wrong person for Dorothy’s escape.
When Lucas went with the soldiers, Sylvie was left alone and I wondered what would happen to her. Toto found her so I am sure she will be okay.
Meanwhile, Dorothy limped to the castle of The Wizard and learned he is from her world rather than from Oz. He told her “Welcome home.”

Mickey on "The Mick" wore a sexy dress the same color as the outfits the Wizard's advisors wear (I've been seeing that color a lot on TV). And her boyfriend looked like Lucas but probably wasn't him.
I hated to see Dorothy tortured, and especially seeing Tip blame her and not help, but now she's with the Wizard and it looks like things will be okay.

Beautiful Wickedness
We learned how the Wizard wound up in Oz and why he chose to stay. His plans to protect Emerald City from the beast keep getting sidetracked. Langewidere’s father was turned to stone and that seemed likely to end negotiations. Wizard realized he cannot trust anyone, including Anna.
Witch of the West learned Lucas’ memory was protected by Glinda’s magic. She used Dorothy to get past the defenses and learn what Lucas was hiding in the cart. Mother Witch is still alive and breeding witches for Glinda.

Interesting story. I liked seeing how the group from the power plant ended up in Oz.
I am reminded Glinda and one of the flying monkeys did not have a Kansas counterpart in the 1939 movie. I thought it was just the monkey.
Jack's not happy with Tip.
I now realize why I didn't know Sylvie's name. As I was watching "previously", I realized I heard "Sophie".

I am beginning to think all of the adults are dishonest when their interests are at risk. Dorothy, Lucas and Silvie “escaped" and stopped at a cabin to rest. Silvie was lying in a field and a large pack of wolves was running toward her. Dorothy panicked and the witch’s gauntlet activated and knocked the wolves away. Following a night of intimacy, Dorothy told Lucas she wanted to go home and the Wiz would help her. But she had to convince Glinda to not go to war with the Wizard. She said she was going home to Auntie Em because “they came first”. Lucas was shocked and hurt that Dorothy had lied to him about her intentions, but he said he would stay with her and fight for her. When they met Glinda, she gave Lucas the kiss of remembering. His memory returned and it was obvious he and Glinda had an intimate relationship. He told Dorothy he would stand with Glinda because “they came first”. I like them using the title of the episode. Silvie became upset when Lucas and Dorothy were arguing. The cabin started to tilt and they had to hold onto things to keep from falling. Silvie is powerful and now she is caught between her affection for Dorothy and for Lucas. The Wizard was alarmed about Glinda’s witches and his soldiers abducted all of the young girls from a nearby village so they could be tested. His High Council was trained by Glinda and he had all of the members thrown into a pit and burned them alive. (Therefore, I will be removing the wizard from my list of favorites.) The best thing he did was release the girls who were not witches. The smartest and most devious thing he did was tell the villagers “Witches are The Beast Forever.” Witch of the West is becoming the most sympathetic character. Her depression is a result of sending her young witches to fight and all of them drowned. She does not want to do that again. She mourned a young witch who was found by the Wizard’s soldiers. West tried to help but the soldiers caused the child to panic. It ended tragically with the child depleting her powers and being euthanized by West. Langwidere is mourning the loss of her father and she does not want the responsibility of being queen. She and Jack had a dispute in her carriage and she told him to get out. He stepped into a puddle and eventually his legs and metal hand rusted. He was stuck in the screaming forest and, fortunately, Langwidere returned and lubricated the rusted areas. Apparently, she massaged more than the rusted areas. Later, in her bedroom, they became intimate.

The princess called herself a princess, but if she lost her father, that made her the queen. And she called herself the queen later.
The original Tin Man also had to be oiled. Shame on her for doing stuff to Jack that couldn't be shown on TV.
That was a lot of girls that had to be taken to find out if they were witches. I wasn't clear on who got thrown in the pit.
I didn't think Tip was supposed to be a prostitute. But she said she wasn't, so maybe she can control whether she has to be.
Seeing Dorothy in her bra reminded me. Has she changed her underwear since she's been there? Surely they don't have underwear that looks like that in that place.
On a related note, Homer Simpson was reading a bedtime story to his kids. He was too lazy to open the book so he just said after the tornado everything is a dream. Which isn't in the book.

Also in my book, Glinda is the Witch of the South and is the one who tells Dorothy how to get home. I don't even remember if the Witch of the North had a name. Abby on "Scandal" and several other people I saw last night wore that color that so many people wear in Emerald City.
