It was difficult to enjoy the pilot, so let me think about what happened.
First Officer Rainford insisted on physically approaching an unidentified object in spite of suspicions that communications in that area had been tampered with. Rainford had 19 minutes to do a fly-by, but she decided to step onto the object and examine it. That caused a Klingon to attack her and she luckily pushed him into something that killed him.
After she was rescued, Rainsford constantly argued and disobeyed her Commander to the extent of mutiny. That could make the Captain look weak, but I still think she is a good leader.
Lt. Saru is a nervous wreck and I do not want to see him again. Is he supposed to be comic relief? If so, that is failing.
I did enjoy seeing the Vulcan.

I am not purchasing an All Access pass. If it is not shown on CBS, I will be unable to follow the episodes.

The only thing I really was impressed with in this series was the look of the spaceship.
