But the green blob was one of my favorites. "The Middle" has been cancelled so he won't be as busy.

On last week's "Family Guy", Peter shot the TV when the announcer said, "We now return to 'The Orville'". Asked why, he changed his voice and said it interferes with this show. The captain is played by the creator of the other show, who also does five voices of regulars and several recurring characters.

Thoughts on Mad Idolatry:
Poor Ed he was trying so hard to find a drinking buddy before he went to Kelly. That drink looked awful that he drank with Bortus.
I don't remember the Ensign before this episode though.
I've seen a similar type of episode on Stargate SG-1 where some of the main characters interfered when they shouldn't have. It didn't bode well. I think it happened on Star Trek too.
The mimicking voice Ed did thinking the Admiral had hung up was humorous.
Kelly was proposing a huge risk to leave The Orville but thankfully Isaac stepped in which I thought was kind of him, he reminded me of C-3PO in Star Wars in so many ways.
That was a tough call that Kelly made to say 'No thanks' but she was right that it did jeopardize his command and so much more.
Hopefully in Season 2 we'll see more of the same.

I watched just enough of Seth McFarlane's other show last night to see commercials I enjoyed, and one was for this show. That got me excited.

Here are my thoughts on the Season 2 premiere without any spoilers:
It started out with some humorous aspects but then it grew serious with Claire and her son Marcus and his seemingly rebelliousness. We didn't see too much of the Bortus aspect but he did try to play matchmaker for Alara and Dann. Poor Gordon struck out with the new crew member but it looks like maybe she'll be a love interest for Ed.
Kelly looks like she has moved on but not sure how she feels about Ed since she doesn't seem to talk much about her own feelings that often.
I am excited to see what happens next as the season progresses.

As indicated in the comments quoted below, MacFarlane said there would be more character depth and more cinematic visuals. This first episode focused on the relationships between the crew members.
I enjoy the drama in Ed and Kelly’s relationship and I snickered when he did a fly by to spy on her. The new crew member, Lt. Tyler, will probably give Kelly a dose of what Ed has been suffering through. Cassius has a nice personality and he learns quickly. I noticed he stopped himself from saying “calm down” to Claire. I enjoyed all of the dating advice and attempts to connect with a date. However, I do not like the idea of Alara and Dann dating.
The show comes up with bizarre things that other lifeforms do. Bortis’ “The Great Release” was ripe for a lot of jokes, but they made only a few.
I was glad Isaac helped resolve the issue of which boy hacked the computer system. Marcus wanted to hang with the popular boy and used poor judgment so he would fit in. He should still be grounded for a week.
I enjoyed the view of the shuttle pod's approach to the ship because we saw a lot of detail of the Orville. I think the ship is beautiful.

It will be interesting to see if he works up courage to do so in the future. Because this was a special time slot, I expected it to be full of action to attract new viewers. But I am not disappointed because I already like and understand the characters. Perhaps the next episode will see them in action.

I wanted more comedy and more action. I liked the shots of the ship's exterior. I liked the plot line with the kids and how Isaac solved the problem.
I wasn't interested in the relationships but I did like seeing Alara try to date. She is cute and she actually looked good in a dress. I don't think she has ever been out of uniform. I liked Cassius and how he handled everything he had to deal with. It bothered me that he couldn't say "calm down" without Kelly getting upset but he used that later.
I liked the jokes about Bortus but they took everything seriously in the actual ceremony.
Seth directed and wrote in addition to acting. He doesn't do all that much on "Family Guy" but he did create it and does five voices.
I am curious how Ed could travel alongside the ship when it is moving so fast through space.
My first thought about Gordon was he knew the new crew member from somewhere. I did like how they were all so welcoming and talked so positively about The Orville.

My first thought about Gordon was he knew the new crew member from somewhere. I did like how they were all so welcoming and talked so positively about The Orville. I had the same thought. When Gordon saw the new crew member, he turned away as if he did not want her to see or recognize him; therefore, I thought they had history together. I guess he did not want her to think he was staring at her.

This was definitely one of my least favorite episodes but I am glad that Ed has shown more maturity as Captain and everything seemed to have been resolved by the end.

I enjoyed the visuals of the sun and its effect on the planet. Viewing the ship against that backdrop was spectacular. It was scary when the ship malfunctioned and was being drawn to the sun.
When the sex guys were trying to seduce Gordon and Isaac, I thought that was funny. But there was nothing funny about Bortis' addiction. I would like to know the thought process behind including that stuff in the episode.
I enjoyed the marriage counseling sessions and the way Bortis and Klyden followed the doctor's instructions so specifically.

I liked how Ed firmly remaindered Bortus but also praised him for his hard work in helping save those he did.
Gordon definitely made me laugh throughout his scenes, especially saying, "six minutes until we're a baked potato!"
Bortus definitely had a serious problem and it was causing major problems wherever he was. I'm glad he finally started admitting he needed help.

I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed the music in the previous episode. I think Seth MacFarlane likes that music because there's so much of it on "Family Guy".
This is the episode that TV listings I saw said would be done live. I don't see how that would be possible. I suppose Andre Braugher would have to talk while Peter Macon moved his li[s in the costume. Yes, I'm still convinced that's what's really happening because Peter Macon does Braugher's voice and personality so well.
I definitely didn't like Bortus' porn addiction but the problems it caused made the episode interesting. His child sure grew fast.
I liked the way the sun looked when they got close. The whole process of evacuating the planet was exciting and it was such a shame they couldn't save everyone. I wonder why they never showed the husband and son of the leader wearing radiation suits because you know they would have to.
What happened to that planet will happen to Earth. I learned this in a book I read in second grade. it was scary to see the Earth with a ring like Saturn's and this giant sun so close. Maybe that book was too advanced for me.

Yes, I remember that song, "As time goes by" I know it's from Casablanca and I've heard many versions of it. I've heard a Jimmy Durante version but I think my favorites are Seth Macfarlane singing it and instrumental versions of it.
Including one of the recordings I found of Seth performing the song:

Thoughts on "Home"
Alara's home planet is absolutely gorgeous and it was nice to see a story involving her and her family. Her relationship with her father really reminded me of my own relationship with my father in many ways. It was nice to see the new security chief who obviously has some quirky behavior for sure. I am not sure how he'll fit in on the team but so far he's not off to a good start.
The ending was a tad sad but it will be interesting to see how things turn out in the end. What Ed got as gift at the end kinda didn't make any sense to me but it was still nice.
Next week looks really exciting and lots of action.

I enjoyed the episode (except the put-your-hand-in-the-boiling-sauce scene). Don't let strangers into your home! The visual effects have been the highlight of the episodes for me rather than the stories. My favorite scene was when Lt. LaMarr tossed the container into the atmosphere and it immediately flattened. That was amazing. I like Alara and I do not want her to leave. (Reddit and other sites say she is in a movie. They also said other things that I will not repeat.) Alara's entire family, not just the father, had an elitist attitude. Her sister did not seem to realize her honest comments were condescending, rude and hurtful to Alara. KyleEl has an excellent memory and I hope he can recall what makes the pickles significant.

I didn't watch because if I drive somewhere, I wear my bifocals and since I'm already wearing them, I can read newspapers. I prefer my single-vision glasses for working online and watching TV, but I have to remember to change glasses if I'm reading newspapers. Not that it matters. It won't take long for me to remember I forgot. Anyway, newspapers need to be a priority.

Ah I finally got the reference now, I saw a video and it is a running joke that Ed would always ask her to get a jar of pickles open for him in some tight situations. Here is the video:
Her dad is definitely not one of my favorite actors since he's always playing roles I am not overly fond of. Yes, the boiling pot scene was difficult to watch as well. I was inwardly squirming as I watched the scene.
I am really anxious for next week to see how things turn out without her. Hopefully they'll mention her every so often with some mini updates.

Thanks. The pickles was a nice joke, but I got stumped because I could not remember an actual jar of pickles in the episodes.
They mentioned Yaphit in this episode. I was aware we had not seen him.
The animal on Alara's home planet was beautiful and I enjoyed the vision of her riding.

The creature was indeed incredible and I hope we see more similar types of these kinds of creatures as the season continues. Yes, I heard the mention, I'm glad they did.

KyleEl has an excellent memory and I hope he can recall what makes the pickles significant. I can't remember what happened on an episode I haven't seen for three days. Does anyone honestly think I'll know what the pickles are about? I will miss Alara if she leaves the show. I did enjoy seeing her on her home planet even if it was to show how little they respect her. Seeing her in a wheelchair was like watching "Speechless" except she could talk without a laser pointer and a translator, and she doesn't have JJ's positive attitude or supportive family. I was so glad Alara showed her family how valuable her skills were. It was a miracle she got her strength back. The green blob was on. I liked how Ed and Kelly kept a straight face while saying such silly things about him. I thought he was leaving. Although Carrie Fisher took two years to die on "Family Guy". Speaking of that show, the new security chief (I hope he doesn't stay because I can't stand him) is the neighbor in a wheelchair on that show, and he's mostly there to be the victim of truly offensive humor (even he hates it but he wants to keep his job) related to his character's disability.
