It took this episode to bring back some of my joy for the show, I really liked 95% of this episode once I got past my anger at a certain scene and thought it thru because I just knew that my favorite characters wouldn't do something so out of character.
But I thought about it and went back and watched a couple of old episodes and it made sense to me, so here is what I am talking about.
Let's get the silly parts that I thought were unnecessary out of the way. Gabriel falling into Cas (major eyeroll)
and I didn't care for the Gabe/Rowena hookup, though the looks on Sam and Dean's face were priceless and Cas not being able to look at anyone was funny.
I have really grown to like Rowena, she is helping the guys and seems at home with that, and she managed to hold her fear at bay and actually fought back against Lucifer, good for her. Even after she sent Lucifer on accident thru the rift and wanted to leave she fought herself against leaving, I think that shows growth on her part. She has always been totally selfish or helping to aid herself in the end and to see her wanting to help the guys was great. Back when she came on I thought she was a one note character and now she makes me feel for her.
Our guys are in the other world traipsing thru the woods each set of brothers talking with the other. I did think Cas made a curious comment to Gabriel, as they were talking about heaven, Cas says maybe Gabriel could help and be what
WE need why did he use WE, I thought that was strange. I still wonder if this is our Cas?
Sam and Dean's conversation seems odd too, Sam is happier and Dean seems a little sad, or more resigned would be a good term, he seems to be going thru the motions. Is he just tired of everything?
The cave- this is where I got mad because I couldn't believe that Dean or Cas would ever leave Sam behind, even with the awful neck wound and the chances of Sam surviving that I thought they would have tried harder to find Sam, Dean has never left Sam behind nor would it enter his mind, it was heartbreaking to watch that fight and to see Cas and Dean be so upset with having to leave Sam behind. We never see Dean speak again until he says he is going to go back for Sam, he just looks at everyone until then.
As I said I got mad because I knew Dean and Cas wouldn't leave Sam, that was totally out of character for them, but I went back and watched Red Meat(S11)and I watched 13.01 where Dean has to burn Cas and I saw that even though both times Dean had to leave the fallen behind in order to save someone or finish the mission that he did or tried to go back in order to retrieve what was lost. Once I realized that I was better with what happened.
I have never been a big fan of Lucifer as he is another one out for himself and he leaves a trail of bodies behind him, however I loved that he knew he needed an olive branch in order to get close to Jack and for him to bring back Sam, I was grateful for. the fact that he even thought that far ahead, was a tiny bit of growth for him. I still hope someone kills him off
Jack was so upset and his asking his two uncles why they couldn't bring Sam back was painful to watch.
Seeing Sam come walking out was great for just that minute and then to see his face when Lucifer comes out behind him, you could see how much that hurt him to have to have anything to do with Lucifer. I hope he can forgive himself for that, I hope we actually get to hear some of that conversation between him and Dean over that.
Now I am actually excited to see what happens in the last 2 episodes I hope we don't have another bloodbath like last year.
