A series of explosions on the planet surface was almost missed today, due to the similarity of color on the planet surface to the explosions themselves. Volcanic activity was thought to have ceased eons ago on Earth's nearest neighbor.
The still-classified-except-to-donors military base on the dark side (some people prefer to call it the Pink side) of the moon has only issued sporadic incomprehensible Tweets since its creation, following the tragic series of deflections that ocurred with the first eleven attempts.
A previous Space Force Manned Sun Mission has not been heard from since shortly before its expected touchdown on the surface.

Just tonight we are hearing strange reports from ham radio operators around the world, many operating from missle-hardened subterranean caves, about a series of repeating letters spoken aloud on a hidden radio frequency, which, when decoded, seem to call for building a wall around the Earth and declaring war on the Sun.

One brave (or unlucky) cat named Schroedinger was cloned 5700 times, and I'm happy to say that at least half of them are still alive.

On a sidenote: My cat has been watching The Hitler Channel all night, and refuses to tell me her plans.
She watched "Kill Bill" (both of them) last night.
I'm glad my name is something other than 'Bill.'

She still doesn't trust me from that time that she got caught up behind a bricked-in wall here in the house. It was only her monstrous howling that led me to her horrible imprisonment, and a handy sledge hammer that broke her out.
Even today she sometimes looks at me with remarkable disdain for a cat named 'Cookie.'
She has made improbable friends with a black raven. They meet on the roof of my house late at night.
I've seen them.
I sometimes fear they are plotting my demise.

A previous attempt to create a wall made of water around the planet did not work, as it only created a sauna when the Sun monsters touched it, and which they found refreshing for a small time.

More disturbing news from the Dark Web. Apparently The Sun King has been joined at the altar by a woman dressed in plastic named Polythene Pam. She's so good-looking, but she looks like a man. She's wearing jack boots and a kilt.

To anyone who is interested, the references here range from science to politics to history to music, movies, literature and more, including my actual cat, who astounds everyone who knows her.
And, of course, it begins with Orson Welles, as it should on Halloween.
An annotated version of this story might appear, so let this stand as fair warning to readers who are not interested.
To any unfortunate soul who has attempted to struggle through The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot I promise to try and make it less of that and more of an episode of The Twilight Zone.
