“The Spear” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, LV) (HDTV)
THE BEST LAID PLANS – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) enlist the help of their pal Garth (guest star DJ Qualls) to gain inside information on what Michael may be planning. The brothers split up to each go after weapons that can aid in their fight against the Archangel, but this may be a fight our heroes cannot win. The episode was directed by Amyn Kaderali and written by Robert Berens (#1409). Original Airdate 12/13/2018.

I had not read any speculation or theories about the episode so I was just cruising along in anticipation of how the guys would succeed. Then came the "Thanos" finger snap! My mouth fell open.
Our team failed spectacularly, but I still enjoyed the episode. I do not know whose egg that was but it met a tragic gooey ending. I was more upset about the spear. That sucks!
Garth did not seem foolish in this episode, and I am glad they did not kill him.
The determined walk with our four guys was nice, but I always chuckle when it is accompanied by heroic music.

Garth was able to "infiltrate" Michael's inner circle??? Well, ok.
I can't remember what the egg was. Was it something that the boys could used to destroy Michael? They should have updated us more. I don't think it's been around since Lucifer possessed the President, right?
Why is Jack always being kidnapped and Sam knocked unconscious? Did Sam have an archangel blade?
I was surprised Dean and Castiel found dark Kaia so easily. Glad to see Dean stare her down.
Confused about how the four of them went to confront Michael. Michael would sense Castiel but wouldn't he also sense his true vessel? Sam and Jack didn't contribute much to the fight except for Sam sliding the spear toward Dean (which didn't help).
By that time I was expecting Michael to repossess Dean. And Dean(Michael)'s snap of his fingers cannot mean anything good.
Of course, they already showed us in the January preview that they've already caught Michael, so how long will this possession last?

I do not remember the egg from previous episodes at all, but it was supposed to help them defeat Lucifer. Maybe that was a "Game of Thrones" nod and a mythical dragon would emerge and gobble Lucifer up. Was it mentioned in the episode when Lucifer possessed the President? I was happy to see Ketch even though the boys did not appreciate his handling of the situation. Most of the explanations and backstory must have been cut during editing.

Hello everyone The egg was used in S12, I think and it was to pull Lucifer out of the President, and that was the last time we saw it, but it has been mentioned a couple of times, I think a couple of episodes ago someone said something about Ketch looking for it. Doesn't look like anyone will get to use it again. I was also happy to see Ketch, it seems like he is trying to be better, and was it just me or was he a little looser, and a little more relaxed, he smiled and made a joke, the old Ketch never did that. I loved when Jack was eating at the first and then Cas turned on the light and came in he got this look on his face like oh crap, BUSTED. Cas taking the decoder ring that seems so silly and when did Cas start eating so much, in S9 he said he didn't like the taste of food? As much as I like Jack he was a little ineffective this time though he was very pleased with himself when he picked the lock and when he turned and looked at Sam with the box and said Happy Holidays. His innocence is a breath of fresh air to this show and much needed. But he needs to earn some serious fighting skills, he didn't even have a weapon until the got to Michael's office and I saw he had an angel blade. and Sam had his machete, that wasn't going to do anything. I did like they got the Spear and were able to find it by "Garth's supposed intel" which we know because Michael was using Garth as conduit for info. I do like dark Kaia, I hope nothing happens to her. Cas has been beat on about 3 or 4 times this year, I am getting a little tired of it, though in this time he did try harder and he was against an arch angel. I wish when they get Dean back, that he comes clean about his deal. I did like the talk he and Jack had about it at the beginning. We all knew Sam wasn't going to wait on them to get there and that's ok, I am glad it worked out he was worried about Garth being killed since he pulled him back in. Sam and Dean both take on so much and even though they are just humans they always try their hardest against whatever the problem is. I thought I noticed female Michael seemed a little nervous waiting on the guys to show up. and when she was talking about monster armies, I thought of Eve, that was what she wanted. The instant that Dean became Michael again you could see the difference in how he was instantly, that was amazing acting by Jensen, his tone, his body language, the look on his face, WOW. and he was right to ask, why didn't anyone question Dean when he got back? and I guess now we know the last time we saw Dean looking and seeing blurriness, maybe Michael was opening the door to come back? I did like the slow motion walk with them and the music was fitting.

November, thanks for the reminder about the egg.
When the guys were getting knocked around by Lucifer, I thought they were distracting Lucifer so Dean could impale him with the spear. So it was disappointing that they got knocked around without positive results. I had been waiting every episode for Lucifer to reveal his plan for Dean. Dean's resistance was so strong, Lucifer got tired of struggling to contain him. He seems sure Dean is now subjugated, but I hope he is mistaken.
Although Castiel seems to have forgotten how to fight, he did heal the scratches on Jack's beautiful face. I was not sure Cas had any abilities remaining.
I enjoy the lighter moments too.
