My knee-jerk reaction is SHOCK! I need to watch it again because I am shocked at what happened. Why did I not see that coming?
I was so happy to see Chuck and I could not stop smiling. I thought "Help is on the way!" Not really!
Jack was not the Big Bad. I liked the scene where Jack explained to Cas that he knew Cas loved him, but that he could not feel anything. Cas protected him as much as he could.
I loved the dramatic effect of Dean staring down at Jack and cocking the gun. I agree with Chuck that the music/sound was perfect for the dramatic showdown, but I, for one, am glad Dean made the right decision.
I'll chat some more tomorrow.

Honestly I still don't know what I think about this episode, I have watched 3 times, had some time to think about it, and read other comments and still don't know.
I loved how Cas stood up for Jack, stood up to Dean, looked for Jack, protected him and never wavered in his devotion to Jack. He has always stood up for what he feels is right, even in situations where he was wrong, he always fights for what he believes. He went to look for jack and hugged him when Jack came to him, I don't know if that meant anything to Jack but I hoped he felt that one person was in his corner and cared about him. He stood in front of Jack even though he knew what the gun would do. His devotion to Jack is kind is almost what it is for the Winchesters.
Poor Sam, as devoted as he is to his brother he knew he would never be ok with having to kill Jack or to lose his brother. He finally told Dean he couldn't be ok with killing Jack, or with Dean sacrificing himself. I loved that once he found out the truth from Chuck he raced to Dean to keep him from killing Jack. He never hesitated picking up the gun and shooting Chuck. I think even though Dean would have been willing to die, that Sam did what he had to save Dean and Jack.
Dean is always willing to make the hard ugly choice, but I have never understood his willingness to always sacrifice himself. I wasn't for sure he would actually kill Jack but he saw that Jack was willing to take responsibility for his actions and not run away anymore, and I think That Dean realized that Jack was his family and he couldn't do it.
I have always liked Jack and what he brings to the show, I think he brings out a paternal side to the Winchesters, because this may be the closest they get to being parents. I loved that he finally realized he needed to own up to his actions.
I will probably add more later on.

ok, here are a few more thoughts.
I loved that Jack tried to re-connect with his grandparents, but it quickly went south, but he tried, I love that he didn't try to hurt Dean, Sam, or Cas when he was still at the bunker, or at the graveyard, he says he feels nothing, but there must be something there that is helping him know what to and what not to do.
I wasn't feeling this version of Chuck but as I have read elsewhere, Chuck did lock up Lucifer and Amara for a variety of reasons. I have read where Michael also said some stuff about how Chuck would create worlds and then abandon them. I will need to do a S14 re watch and then I can pick up more clues. I hate that he seems to be that petty, and when he wanted Dean to pick up the gun and if he did it Chuck would bring back Mary, Chuck was a little scary there, and then was vey cold hearted when he killed Jack.
I have been wondering why he would do that, is he scared of what Jack can do, maybe even kill Chuck? Or is he just trying to hurt our 3 guys?
I am glad Billie went to the empty to talk to Jack, I will be really interested in hearing that conversation, and I am also interested in seeing how our guys get away from the pack of zombies or hell souls, whatever they may be. Will Billie, Jack, the empty and the Winchesters and Rowena all team up to kill Chuck?
And if Chuck has brought back the women in white and Bloody Mary and the killer clown, who else might we see come back?

novemberschild I enjoyed reading your reviews. When I like a character who is good and has helped the boys, it makes me sick when the character turns bad. That is what has happened with Chuck. I enjoyed the original Chuck so much, I watched the episodes over and over again. They made me happy. Then I was surprised and thrilled when they flipped the script and said Chuck was God. He showed up when the guys needed him the most. He brought them back when they perished. I loved him. Now we see his reasons were always selfish. He let Sam and Dean go through life facing horrific battles because they were "his guys", his "favorites". It did not matter that they could not have a normal life. Chuck told them so many lies and now I think he might have been lying when he said he could not restore Jack's soul. Will we see Chuck in the final season? (Will Jensen still sing with the band?) I have always been amazed at the way Dean would confront God, but I was truly amazed when Sam shot Chuck. That was awesome. He will do anything to save his brother. I was glad Castiel stood up to Dean to protect Jack. I was glad Jack did not zap out and hurt any of them. Billie to the rescue! I am interested in what she and Jack will plot to stop Chuck's petty plan to destroy some or part of the earth, including our boys.

SoCal and Anti, Yea, it is looking that way and I am not happy about that, but I have read several comments on what could be happening, these are only speculations, nothing concrete is even known now. Chuck from the AU, Chuck from another world that he created, and that it could be the empty doing it, or this is a huge mis- direct as to what is going on.
I have a couple more comments about the finale, I know it seems weird that I have that much to say, but some of this season has sucked me back in the show.
To go with the family theme, even though Dean tried to make Cas go away and even told him to leave, Cas kept staying or coming back, even as he loves Jack and wants to protect him, he loves the Winchesters and won't give up on them either.
I still don't understand why the guys didn't scatter when the Hello souls started coming out, were they stunned by the events that just happened, or were they protecting Jack's body?

I like the theory that it is not our original Chuck that is being so heartless. I hope it is either that or something else acceptable. I also wondered why they stood there when the undead started to surround them.
