This is a story I started on the fanfiction website but I haven't finished it yet but it's a story about Marty McFly from the Back to the Future movies and how he deals with 9/11
Here is the background I wrote for it and the first chapter: in this story marty is (he will be 22 in this story a little younger than he would be in the actual time line of the stories) in New York visiting his big brother Dave and before he can go to where Dave is working, the attacks at the World Trade Center take place and Marty learns that Dave was planning on taking Marty to show him his new office and apartment later on that. As the day progresses, Marty learns that dave has died and must cope with his loss and tell his parents the sad and heartbreaking news!
our story starts with Marty and Dave at their parents' home in Hill Valley, California as Dave is packing up for New York.
"are you sure don't want to come and live with me in New York little bro?" dave asked as he folded up the last of his shirts and put them in his suitcase and closed the lid shut. Marty shook his head "Dave, as much as i would like to, Jennifer is planning on coming down for a visit from med school and i told her i would be here when she got here" "whatever Marty, but i think you are making a mistake in doing that because New York has so much to offer you and I don't want you to feel like you have missed on the adventure of a lifetime" Dave frowned and placed a small photograph that was identical to the one Marty had of the three kids together in his pocket and ruffled Marty's hair "you be good ok?" "Dave, i am 22 not a child ok?" Marty groaned as he said those lines just then before dave could respond the taxi beeped announcing its arrival "Listen, that's my ride but i'll see you after Labor Day okay Marty? try to be good ok?" Dave said as he grabbed his suitcase and headed outside. "yeah whatever" muttered Marty from the couch who was trying to look at a magazine instead of looking Dave leaving the McFly house for the last time which Marty didn't know because he thought Dave would be returning back in November for Thanksgiving! What Marty didn't know was that his life was about to change forever in the next few weeks.
To be continued
Sneak Peek of the next chapter Marty arrived in New York and couldn't understand how Dave had fallen in love with a jungle like this. All he knew was that this was no Hill Valley and there was more people in this one city than he ever imagined in all his life! Before Marty could shout for a taxi, a woman starting screaming "oh my God, a plane just hit a building, I think it was the World Trade Center

second chapter:
A week before Labor Day, the McFly phone rang and Lorraine who was in the kitchen fixing a pan of lasagna grabbed the phone while holding the pan with a potholder with the other hand. "McFly residence, Lorraine speaking how may i help you?" Lorraine said "Hi Mom, it's Dave" Dave said on the other end as Lorraine put the pan of lasagna in the oven and picked up the phone again "David, hello dear, it's so good to hear from you, how is New York?" "Crowded and noisy but it is good to be finally on my own, listen is Marty around? I need to confirm his airplane reservations to make sure he is still coming out here next week" Dave said. Lorraine scanned the living room spotted Linda in the living room "Linda, is Marty around or is he still out with Jennifer Parker?" Linda looked up from her magazine since she was trying to relax after getting off from work "uh, let's see Marty should be out in the garage practicing his guitar, either that or he is washing up his work uniform in the laundry room" Lorraine: Well could you go get him? Dave is on the phone and would like to talk to him. Linda nodded and went downstairs to the laundry room and told Marty who was putting his uniform in the dryer that Dave was on the phone and wanted to talk to him. Marty went upstairs with Linda directly behind him and picked up the phone which was on the kitchen counter "this is Marty" "Marty, my man, it's your brother Dave" Dave said Marty groaned because he hated it when Dave tried to act like they were buddies when in fact they weren't "hi dave" "listen you still coming out here next week right?" Dave asked "I think so, if they don't fire me from work" Marty said Dave smiled "don't worry, you'll be great at work and they wouldn't dare fire their best employee" Marty half-smiled when Dave said because it cheered him up "yeah I'll be there, you're still meeting me at the airport around 8:30 in the morning right?" Marty asked hoping that Dave wouldn't leave him stranded Dave grinned "of course, listen I gotta get back to work but I'll talk to you when I get off from work in about another few hours ok?" Marty: yeah sure Dave Marty hung up and went to his room to go pack for his trip.

now for chapter 3 It was the week after Labor Day and Marty arrived at the airport but noticed that there was no sign of Dave anywhere. As he looked around the outside of the airport and couldn't understand how Dave had fallen in love with a jungle like this. All he knew was that this was no Hill Valley and there was more people in this one city than he ever imagined in all his life! Before Marty could shout for a taxi, a woman starting screaming "oh my God, a plane just hit a building, I think it was the World Trade Center"
Marty stared in disbelief and looked at the slip of paper that had Dave's work address on it "Oh my God" Marty exclaimed because he realized that was Dave working and that might explain why Dave was late and not at the airport.
"TAXI" screamed Marty at the top of his lungs a few seconds later a taxi stopped and Marty tossed his bag inside and told the driver to take him to the World Trade Center as soon as possible.
As Marty rode in the taxi he began to feel sick to his stomach almost as if he were carsick but he tried to brush it off as nerves.
Marty silently prayed to himself "please Dave, be okay since I can't afford to let our relationship end where it has ended"
The minutes seemed to drag ever so slowly as the taxi inched closer and closer to the World Trade Center until a policeman stopped the driver "I'm sorry sir but I cannot allow you to go any further"
Marty stared in disbelief "what do you mean officer? I am here to see my brother who works in this building"
The police officer looked at Marty "I am sorry Sir but we aren't allowing vehicles through here unless they are emergency vehicles, you can wait over in that cafe until we recieve the all clear"
Marty nodded and paid the taxi driver his tab and took his bag out of the car slowly walking to the cafe hoping he could find out something to this madness
to be continued chapter 4
As Marty sat in the cafe he debated over whether or not he should order a coffee while waiting on Dave. Before the waitress could come over where Marty was sitting, Marty looked up hoping to get an idea of what was going on and he saw the smoke coming from the building and the people jumping from the windows. Marty became so disgusted with this site that he actually vomitted what seemed be everything that Marty had ever eaten in his life right there on the street "Oh God, where is Dave? I really hope he is ok" said a panic stricken Marty.
Meanwhile Dave was in his office trying to help the other employees escape because they had recieved notice to evacuate the building as soon as they could. Before Dave could climb down the stairs, more smoke came into the office and became unbearable to breathe but he was determined to try and escape like the others. As Dave climb down the stairs he felt a shake and jolt and that was the last thing he remembered because he fell and hit his head on of the pillars and was knocked cold.
Back at the cafe Marty waited for any sign of Dave since he didn't know any of Dave's employees or their names which made Marty even more nervous as he began sweating like crazy. All Marty could do was wipe his forehead with the sleeve of his shirt since he felt too uneasy to ask for napkins from the waitress when he hadn't ordered anything yet. About an hour later Marty witnessed the first of the Twin Towers collapse and all he could do was sit in silence with shock and horror. Marty decided that he needed to call Dave to see if he was on his way out of the building and he dashed to the nearest payphone.
When Marty arrived at the payphone which was directly beside of the cafe, he immediately noticed the smoke and debris from the first building and the people running from the site covered in dust. Marty decided that it was best if he tried to spot Dave in all this madness but then he remembered he still had his luggage with him and needed to find a safe place to put it until he found Dave.
"Excuse me officer" Marty called to one of the nearby police officers "I am looking for my brother who works in of these buildings but I really don't want to look for him carrying all this luggage around, is there anyplace I can leave it until I return for it?"
The police officer shook his head sadly at Marty "I am sorry son but you are going to have to hold on to it because we are trying to help the people out of this disaster and there is no way you can just leave that bag anywhere"
Before Marty could say something back to the police officer, the second plane struck the second tower "Oh my God, not again" screamed Marty
Marty ran to the payphone again this time a little faster despite dragging his bag ever so slowly behind him. Before Marty could pick up the phone to dial the first number, he was knocked to the ground by a woman screaming that a woman had been badly burned in the elevator due to a fire ball and that this was her daughter-in-law. Marty looked for any sign of Dave again and thought he had spotted Dave but it wasn't, instead it was an employee for a different company who worked two floors below Dave's.
Marty decided he would try calling for Dave "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAVEEEEEEEEEEE" hollered Marty at the top of his lungs but with each echo, there was only screams, cries and yells that answered him back which made it harder to discern who was responding to his yells.
Marty tried to make his way back to the cafe but by now the cafe staff had set up tables and chairs for those who had just escaped the first building, as Marty tried to move closer in to see the people who were in the cafe he looked up and saw that the second building was starting to topple as well.
Marty looked at his watch and realized that this second building had been standing and was now leaning over like it would topple over in about an hour's time just like the first building had done an hour earlier.
Before Marty could catch his breath, the second building was gone just like the first one and he could hear the horrible cries and screams only this time they were much louder than the first time.
Marty sliently prayed again this time with a little more heart into it "God, please let Dave alright despite what has just happened because I don't know what else do do"
Marty sat and waited hoping for the best. What Marty didn't know was that his life would be turned upside down in the next few hours and he would never see his beloved brother Dave alive again.

Chapter 5
Marty sat still for a few moments and thought it would be best to help out while trying to look for Dave. There was so much rubble and debris that it made hard to see what everything was. Marty began to cough because the dust was so heavy but he was determined to help out until the authorities could send the proper help for all these people. Marty kept digging and digging until he spotted a fancy leather shoe "if that's a shoe then there must be a foot attached to it" Marty said to himself
Marty kept digging behind the shoe until he uncovered a mangled body with a bruised up face and arms and legs which was wearing a fancy business suit "sir, sir, are you alright?" Marty said to the man whose body he had recovered never realizing that was Dave his brother that he had been looking for.
Marty realized that wasn't getting a response so he went to the pants pocket looking for some identifcation so he could tell the authorities and they could alert the man's family about his death.
Marty slowly pulled out a black wallet that had papers that were falling out of it as soon Marty opened it. Marty looked at the name on the man's driver's license which made his heart stop cold; DAVID MCFLY Marty tried to brush off and told himself "no, this can't be Dave, it's probably someone who stole Dave's wallet and went into the building to hide." Marty kept going through all of the credit cards and cash as well as expired and faded coupons in there until he found a photograph that he recognized immediately because now he knew for certain this was Dave! Marty picked up the photograph, it was the one he had with the three Mcfly children in it with each of them smiling for the camera in order of their age. Marty began to sob "Oh God, please tell me this is just a bad dream i am having" Marty tried to compose himself but the tears kept coming down his cheeks knowing that his big brother who drove him crazy but always was there when he needed him was now dead. Marty dragged Dave's body out of the rubble with tears in his eyes and told the fire fighters who were asking who it was Marty was taking out of the rubble and he explained in a choked up voice that this was his brother. The authorities nodded and offered Marty a ride to Dave's apartment which Marty accepted but insisted on taking Dave's body with him until he had at least contacted his family to tell them the desvasting news that Dave was now dead. As Marty ended the apartment with Dave's body and the fire fighter dropping off his bag for him, Marty cried and cried because it all seemed so unreal like a bad dream. The fire fighter left silently out the door as Marty went the kitchen to grab something to drink but every time Marty looked over at the couch where Dave's body was, he would start to cry again.
Marty tried to compose himself but it was hard so he went to Dave's bedroom and found the phone and dialed Doc's number hoping to in touch with Doc and ask for his advice on what to do in this situation.
*RING RING RING RING* rang the phone at the Brown Residence until Clara picked up the phone "Hello, Emmitt Brown Residence, Clara speaking, how might i help you?" "m'am it's Marty, can I speak to Doc?" Marty said "oh Marty, hello no I'm sorry Emmitt isn't in, he went on a school related project with Jules and Verne, is there anything I can help you with?" Marty tried to not to sob but ending up crying anyway "M'am, my brother was just killed in the World Trade Center attacks and I need to borrow the Time Machine so I can go back and reverse this because I don't know i can tell my family this" Clara tried to sound as calm and soothing as possible because she recognized that Marty was in shock "Marty dear, you know that Emmitt didn't create the Time Machine for that purpose, besides Marty, the past and hard times are there to help teach us." Marty now was angry and annoyed as Clara said those last lines " LISTEN, I NEED THAT DAMN TIME MACHINE BECAUSE I NEED TO PREVENT THIS BECAUSE I AM SO UPSET AND I DIDN'T ACT VERY NICE TO DAVE THE LAST TIME WE SPOKE" Clara sensed that Marty was just angry and upset "Marty dear, I'll give your message to Emmitt when he returns with the boys, now if you need anything else dear i'll be glad to help you" Marty sighed and then said "Yes, M'am, thank you" Marty hung up the phone and began to cry on the top of Dave's bed This certainly wasn't going to be easy knowing that someone he loved was now gone forever and Marty desperately needed someone older and wiser to show him what to do next

(okay I was brainstorming and here is the next part)
Chapter 6 Marty sat on the edge of Dave's bed of the apartment and decided he needed to call his parents to let them know what had happened but before he could, the phone rang> Marty let the phone ring and the answer machine pick and it was Doc letting Marty know that he had gotten Marty's message from Clara and was asking where he could meet Marty so they could sit and talk
“Doc? Is that you?” Marty said almost out of breath as he grabbed the phone from the receiver. “Yes, Marty what this I am hearing you need the time machine?” said the old and familiar voice of Marty’s dearest friend and mentor Doc. Marty sighed with relief knowing that Clara had been successful in getting the message to Doc.
“Yes, that’s right Doc, I guess you have heard about the brutal attacks here in New York City?” Marty asked trying to not cry but it was hard because Dave’s lifeless body still lay on the couch where the firefighter had laid the body. Doc sighed “Yes, that is an unfortunate thing and those who did this will definitely have to pay the consequences for their actions.” Marty groaned “yes Doc, they will but here’s the thing my brother was in of those buildings and *gulp* my brother was killed thanks to those monsters!” he began to cry again as he wondered how would he ever tell Lorraine and George the devastating news. Doc sighed again “That is terrible Marty my boy, but I have told you that the fabric of time travel is a delicate thing and cannot be taken lightly, one wrong move or step and it messes with the entire thing, don’t you remember that incident we had with Biff in getting that sports almanac back?” Marty remembered, it had been nearly a disaster, his father was killed in that time line and his mom was married to Biff plus the entire town was run by gangs, it wasn’t a pretty thing. “Are you still there Marty?” asked Doc who was sounding concerned on the other end of the phone since he hadn’t heard Marty make any kind of response. “Oh right! Sorry Doc” Marty said frantically snapping back to reality “I remember that but here’s the thing Dave and I didn’t have the world’s best good-byes and I don’t have the heart to tell my mom, hell I don’t even have the guts to tell my old man about Dave being gone, is there any way we can change this? I mean I am not asking you to change today’s events but I am asking for a chance to spare Dave’s life.” Doc thought a moment, it was a legitimate request but could it be done? “Doc are you still there?” asked the frantic and concerned Marty on the other end. “Yes I am here, this is just some heavy stuff to take in” Doc answered using one of Marty’s familiar phrases, “tell you what Marty, give me about 25 minutes to get everything together and I’ll be there in 2 hours to see what I can do about this, I’ll meet you at the apartment, until then don’t go anywhere and don’t call anyone until I come out there, understand?” “Sure Doc, and Doc? Thanks!” Marty said as he hung the receiver up.
Sneak peek for Chapter 7
“Great Scott Marty!” Doc screamed as they ran down the subway tunnels to find Dave “This is really crazy, I am worried we won’t be able to pull this off” “We have to Doc, our very lives depend on it!” answered Marty with a grin on his face.

Chapter 7 After 20 minutes Doc managed to pack up all of the things he felt he would need for the trip, he gave Einstein one last belly rub before he went to go hug Clara as well as Jules and Verne. He looked at Clara and sighed “I’ll be back before you know it” he said hugged her tightly and she smiled at him “Oh Emmitt I wish you didn’t have to go but I know that Marty needs you now.” Doc nodded, he didn’t have to say anything he gave her a half-smile and light kiss on the lips before entering the newly restored Delorean that he had restored a few years earlier with Marty’s help, it had been one of the last projects they had worked on. Doc drove as quickly as he could without being stopped by the authorities and when he felt no one was watching him he decided to use the flying circuits that had been reinstalled a year earlier for an experiment he was working on with Jules and Verne for a school project, what would fly faster the car or the train and it turned out that the train had been faster believe it or not! After flying the Delorean with little incident he looked for a place to land it in the parking garage in New York City near Dave’s apartment. Doc glanced at his watch it read 8:35, which meant his watch was still on California time but it was really around 11:35 New York time, he opened up the glove compartment and found his address book, it was a bit faded on the front cover but the writings on the inside were still legible. He thumbed through it until he reached the Ms and found McFly, David, Marty had given Doc the address when he had gone to spend the summer with Dave a year after Dave moved out of Hill Valley and Marty had sent a postcard to Doc from the Empire State building and how he had remarked how he thought about attending college in New York but a week after Marty came back, he had changed his mind. Doc realized he was about 4 blocks from the apartment building, he noticed that a lot of the streets were covered in a white dusty color and the police had put up several police line barricades to block the streets. He was about to ask what happened when he heard a woman near him sobbing “My baby, my baby” she shrieked. Doc was about to say something to the woman when he glanced at the building number and realized he was at Dave’s apartment building, he had actually miscalculated he was only about 2 blocks from Dave’s apartment from the parking garage instead of 4. He found the doorman and he asked which was the best way to get to Dave’s apartment and he suggested he try the stairs since the elevators had been acting sluggish most of the morning. Doc looked at the address book again and saw that Dave lived on the second floor of the building and it was number 208, he saw that the even numbers were on the left side and the odd numbers were on the right so he headed towards the left after he got to the second floor. Doc knocked on the door a few minutes later “Marty? It’s me Doc” he said softly near the keyhole so Marty would know it was safe open up the door. Marty had been on Dave’s bed writing out a letter to his parents when he heard the knock on the door and realized it had to be Doc and he slowly unlocked the dead bolt “Doc,” he said softly as he ran to hug his beloved friend and mentor. Doc smiled to see Marty, it was good to see him but he could tell that Marty had been crying, his face still felt wet from the tears he had been crying a few minutes earlier. “Marty, Marty, how are you my boy?” he said as Marty led him to the kitchen so they could sit and talk. Marty sighed “Well Doc, to be honest I have been better, I just started on a letter to Mom and Dad and all I can write is: Dear Mom and Dad, New York is busy and crowded as ever, it’s been a crazy day since I got here.” And that’s where I stop and cry because I can’t bear to tell them about Dave yet.” Marty’s blue eyes filled up with tears again and he began sobbing. Doc nodded “It’s never easy to lose someone you love” he said softly “I know when I lost my father it wasn’t easy, we didn’t have the world’s best relationship but we did know that he was proud to call me his son” Marty nodded and was grabbing a napkin from the table that been in a bag from an order of carry-out that Dave had placed a few days earlier. He wiped his eyes and looked at Doc’s brown eyes, he knew that Doc had been through a lot and he remembered the times he had with his own father George and how he had met him back in 1955 and helped bring his parents together thanks to a strange twist of events. Marty sighed “So, you got here okay, what it is looking like out there?” Doc bit his lip and sighed “It’s not looking pretty out there Marty, God it looks almost like a bomb went off and a huge section is missing from the city” he said concerned. Marty nodded “I see, I haven’t gone anywhere except the bathroom since I hung up with you like you suggested but I think we need to make a plan of action of what we are going to do next.” Doc nodded “Exactly, now remember what I told you about the fabric of time, it’s very delicate and we need to take precautions before we do anything.” Marty nodded again he understood too well what it meant to deal with the fabric of time. Marty looked at Doc, “Do we need to change clothes or are we going to go dressed as we are now?” he asked curious as to what their next step was. Doc sighed “It’s probably best if we go dressed as we are now.” Marty nodded “Should I leave my suitcase or bring it?” he asked and Doc sighed “If you brought with you, I say you should bring it with you, the only thing we will be leaving behind is Dave because he wasn’t with you before all of this madness happened and if you take him with you it could cause chaos!” Marty agreed and went to go pick up his suitcase that he had put in the corner of the room near the couch, he saw Dave’s lifeless body still lying on the couch, he hugged Dave’s lifeless body “Don’t worry Dave, I promise things will be better soon” he said softly. “Let’s go then” he said glancing at Doc who was now standing near the door. Doc nodded and they walked towards the parking garage, the crowds of people were now scattered all around and they were screaming loudly and it was beginning to hurt both Marty’s and Doc’s ears from the noise! Doc glanced at Marty and saw that the parking garage where the Delorean was parked was blocked by police barricades and the only way to get to the parking garage would be to find the nearest subway station, take a train in the opposite direction and get off at the station nearest the parking garage and then ride the Delorean back to the weeks before this fateful day. Doc found the subway station and Marty was getting tired because the suitcase he had was semi heavy because he had packed quite a bit of stuff in it but he knew their goal was within sight and soon it would be all over.
