New library story! At my county library it has been the rule for several weeks that people are limited to an hour of computer time. For the first few weeks after I came back I could spend all the time I wanted, though there's little advantage to doing anything there. It just gets me out of the house. But a man had to have his time extended because when he went to Gmail, he was in someone else's, and one of the people who worked there tried from six feet away to help him sign out. The usual way wasn't working. They haven't been sitting at our computers but she had to after he moved away. It wasn't fair for him to lose time to all that so he got an extension. It definitely seems fair that he should have his time extended. I went in for a Lasik consultation on Friday and I qualify! I was surprised because I have a weird astigmatism that I thought might prevent me from getting it. I'm all scheduled for August 31st and I'm super nervous about it. I'm still having to decide if I want "monovision" or not. It's where they correct one eye for distance and one eye for close up. Otherwise they just correct both for distance. It's supposed to help so I can wait longer to need reading glasses when I'm older, but I don't think I want to do that. I'd rather both eyes be the same. That is what Kevin did when he got his eyes done a few years ago.

Huh i have astigmatism as well plus my eyes are also a bit weird too.
I'm glad you qualify. Maybe someday I can get it done too.

My husband had it done 3 years ago and I've just been building up the courage to finally do it myself. My husband loves it and has like 20/10 vision from it.

That's good. I'll check about free consultations after my move finishes so I'll be able to focus on it.

Is there an end in sight to your move? Did COVID make it take longer?

We are still trying for November. No, COVID is actually making it shorter in some ways.

Lasik is the best thing ever!! I had it done in february, and now I have 20/15 vision. I was blind as a bat without my glasses before.

No panic attack, so it looks like the valium worked. haha
Had my 1 day check up yesterday and things look good. I go back again in a month so see how I'm healing. It's definitely weird not having to put on glasses or contacts in the morning to see. My eyes already feel fine...still have to remember to use my drops on a regular basis and not rub my eyes!
How is everyone else doing? We had a taste of fall weather yesterday being only in the 70s, but it will be back in the high 90s again by this weekend. I love summer, but I'm ready for the fall! I like having seasons.

Glad to hear it went well, Merr.
We are having 70's here, as well. I am putting a jacket on at times, in the shade. Seems early to me somehow to need a jacket. It's in the 50's at night.
I officially went back to work today. Working from home, of course. I took a new med last night. I woke up just before NOON!!! I could not believe it. I naturally, typically, wake up around 7:00. So, first day back at work, way LATE!!!

So, first day back at work, way LATE!!! Oh no! I'm sure they'll be understanding. Is everyone you work with still working from home? Is Marc still working from home? How is it going having the both of you working from home? Kevin's company has hired a new sales guy and until they get another truck (working on it) the new guy has taken Kevin's work truck so him and his partner have just been home all week long. They are going to have to start transitioning into more of a "owner/managers" capacity instead of workers soon. He can't continue to just sit at home all day, he needs to find something to do! We're also in the process of finally setting up a "real" software system to track all the company information. Up until now all the appointments have just been scheduled with the receptionist through google calendar. We're constantly losing invoices because the guys just don't turn them in like they are supposed to. We have no way of tracking if the advertising they do is worth the money etc. So the new software is going to take care of all of that. It will be paperless invoicing and a cool online program for taking calls and dispatching and keeping track of where the calls came from etc. We're very excited! It will drastically change my job though. Right now I enter all the invoices into quickbooks to keep track of the accounting etc, but with them being paperless, I won't have to do that anymore. The program can automatically upload the invoices to quickbooks at the end of each day! It's all pretty amazing. It will be overwhelming for a while and take some time to learn, but it will be so nice to have a much better picture of what is actually going on with the business!

We are both working from home. Separate floors of the house. Marc is in meetings all day. I don't even know how they get work done. I am set up in the dining room. I'm "listening" to a meeting on Zoom right now.
Wow, big changes for you. Exciting to have the business doing so well. Will you keep a receptionist, or will you take that over? Or will you have less to do? what does Kevin normally do? Does he go on calls? Or manage issues?

Or will you have less to do? what does Kevin normally do? Does he go on calls? Or manage issues? We'll keep the receptionist, she works from home full time, so I don't want to take over her job. That would be more than I want to do. haha I will have way less to do. I'll have to figure out how the program works and it will probably be my job to use the data that it gives us to figure out how to keep things running even more smoothly. I'll still have to do the accounting, but the hours of data entry will no longer exist. Kevin has been going out as a plumber to see what customer's need to fix their plumbing problems. The more and better guys they've been hiring though have made it so he works less and less. He only gets calls when there are extras that the employees can't cover in the day. So he's been home quite a bit lately as there hasn't been enough work for the employees and him, which he is ok with. We don't have the man power to take more calls than we currently are. Finding good people that are willing to work is hard and they just haven't been able to find more people to hire to grow bigger. But they've decided they like where they are at. At this point to make more money, they'd have to at least double employees etc and they aren't interested in getting that big. And they see no point in having the company be any bigger if they aren't going to be making any more money. Does that make any sense? haha We have a manager that is in charge of the employees and making sure that they are where they need to be to get the jobs done that are outstanding. He also takes care of customer complaints. Kevin might have to start helping him with some of that because there are times that he has too much to do. The jobs they sell are major repairs, fixing sewer or water lines mostly, so they projects can take anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks depending on what needs to be done. They aren't quick things that get finished the day they are sold.

I'm glad to hear things are going so well. Plumbing is quite a big business. Especially, those big jobs that are project like. I hear about how difficult it is to hire good people all the time. I have a friend with a cleaning business. She is out on the job everyday now, because keeping people in those type of jobs is difficult. No one likes to do them for long.
I remember when you managed the tanning salon.

I remember when you managed the tanning salon. I liked managing the tanning salon, but just didn't have the time to put in the effort I wanted to get it to grow. The girl we sold it to is doing really well with it. We even pay more now than we used to for entry level positions. Makes it easier to find people, but then they realize they have to do actual work and they don't stick around very long. Jobs that require manual labor are just going to keep getting more and more expensive because no one wants to do them. The average plumber in our state is about 55, which means pretty soon when the older guys start retiring, we are going to have a major shortage because there just aren't new guys getting into this kind of work. The guys that we do have will be able to request basically whatever they want to as an hourly wage, which means prices going up.

I understand higher wages, but they can price themselves out of a job. It's hard to stay competitive as an owner, I'm sure.
The fast food places are putting up hiring signs with wages listed that are hard to believe for the job. Back in the day, you know the stone age, I made $1.65 at Hardees. LOL. That was my only fast food job.
Alex just jumped up and bit my arm. Damn cat.

I got paid $4.25 in my first job, but not for long. I got raises pretty quickly. I actually enjoyed working fast food in high school. All the other employees were people my age and we had a good time for the most part.
Fast food here isn't really hiring for a ton, definitely more than just minimum wage though. Emily is halfheartedly trying to find a job. I'm interested to see what she is going to get paid as a 16 year old, if she ever gets a job. She had an over the phone interview a few weeks ago with Maurice's, the clothing store. She's really hoping to get a job somewhere like that instead of fast food, but I doubt that will happen.
My cat will sometimes bite our toes when we are on our tall bar stools, but that is about it. She has been bringing in a lot more stuff than usual. We've had snakes and birds and grasshoppers lately. Quite a few in just the last couple of weeks. The snakes are so small, they are almost the size of big worms!

Library story!
A man was using a computer at my county library and didn't know what to do. So he was on his cell phone. I could hear both ends of the conversation very clearly. He was trying to get his unemployment benefits and he didn't know how to do that on the computer, and he was asking if he could appeal a decision. The woman he was talking to wasn't in that department. I assume she was able to arrange for him to get what he needed by mail. He didn't even have email!
So this part is for Merr. I didn't look at the new mattress I got a year ago but I did notice as I moved the foundation into the house that it is an Ashley. I was unable to move the old foundation out, so I just put the new one on top of the old one for now. Maybe next year when I take everything off the mattress I can find a way to get rid of the old foundation. But starting this weekend I may need a blanket. Over time there will be more blankets, but next summer I will be able to remove the mattress.

I remember when you managed the tanning salon. I remember when she was pregnant. 😂 We're in the midst of a DEMONIC heatwave. It hit 117 in Woodland Hills! Oh my God. Plus, we had a couple of power outages, which really, really sucked. No fans, no lights, no nothing. For hours. Its supposed to hit 100 in my area, and sadly, I work today. Which means actually leaving the house. My uniform is dark pants, dark polyester top, dark apron...yeah this should be fun. 😛

I used to work in Woodland Hills. I remember some of those heat waves in the Valley. It is miserable.
I had to put on a jacket to sit outside. So crazy.

I'll just say it here since Maze likes my shoes.
I wore a new pair of shoes for the first time yesterday and I'm wearing them now. Although I simply buy shoes each time I see a new color that is definitely not like a color I already have, I have to justify each color. These are a shade of pink best described as salmon. I needed a red pair of shoes to wear for patriotic occasions, and we have another one coming up this Friday. My bright red shoes are really old. They were made in America and two other pairs I bought when I bought them were worn and got messed up one year when it rained a lot in the mountains. That was 2002. Made in America means they last better. But one of the red shoes is missing anyway.
My other red shoes include two pairs I can wear in bad weather and two pairs that are still too pristine to wear anywhere but church. Actually, one of those pairs can be worn in bad weather if it's not too bad. However, if I never get out of my car, what's the point in wearing nice shoes to church? I get my exercise after drive-in church is over and I need shoes I can mess up.

Yesterday was 95 degrees and today we are going to be at 55. Nasty storm came in all over the west. Montana, Colorado and Wyoming got snow, but we just got rain where I'm at. Farther north though they've had some crazy wind that has been knocking tons of old trees over. I'm enjoying getting to wear pants for the first time in a while. Fall/winter clothes are so much comfier than shorts and t shirts. Going to be confused all week with having Monday off. I will enjoy my short week though.

It went from 80 to mid 50's here today. Dreary day, but I don't mind a rainy day, we haven't had many, but I've been freezing all day.
I've had issues because it's not Monday - I keep looking at the wrong meetings in my calendar. You think I would get it after the first meeting, but no...
