we also don't know if the boys run into cas at the beginning, middle or end of the epi. i also think sam and dean may be working a case, and sam's hellucinations get to the point where he can no longer control them. he possibly freaks out, like he did at the warehouse, and he ends up being forcibly commited by the authorities. dean then does what he can to get sam out of the asylum. since there will only be a handful of epis left in this season, i'm guessing 'castiel' does somehow help sam. personally, i don't think castiel is the real castiel. i think he's another powerful being using castiel's image. i remember reading that we're suppose to see sam's mental breakdown from sam's pov. I would not mind seeing a scenario like this. We know that Sam is truly going to lose it and I am hoping that Dean just sees how bad off Sam has really been from his hallucinations. I know Sam has not been good to go from the start but was trying his best to keep it under control for Dean. I would rather see Sam being committed against his will then doing it voluntarily. To me it would make for a better storyline. I want to see Sam breakdown completely in front of Dean and as mentioned maybe the police are the ones who take him to the asylum. Dean then needs to help his little brother get out and go into protective big brother mode to make sure Sam can start to heal. At this point I am just excited to see Sam breakdown and it will be interesting how the story line really plays out. These next episodes are going to get really good.

DeanandSam I am feeling the same way you are. I am so excited for this to happen to Sam. His breakdown is long overdue. Just my feeling that he would not go voluntarily but to truly be committed. That would have to be a great fear for Sam especially when it comes true. Jared is going to be as always phenomenal in these upcoming episodes.

Just noticed I had posted here 1 month ago and now we are closer to Sam's breakdown. I am really excited after reading the synopsis for 7.17. Finally everything will come crashing down around Sam and he will be committed to a mental hospital. I will have to check back as we get closer to the time. Now that Sam let Lucifer back in you can see just see the fear Sam has. Lucifer will push Sam over the edge. I still do not think Sam will go voluntarily though. These next two episodes are going to be amazing.

Hello everyone. I am coming into this thread a little late but I thought every body's ideas were interesting. Personally, I am not sure how Sam will be put into the asylum but for Dean to have him committed Sam's behavior or breakdown would have to really scare Dean. As already mentioned in one of the articles Jared talks about Sam going crazy and others seeing that. I know the episode with the clowns and Lucifer returning are coming up soon so maybe these events trigger his breakdown as well as Sam not sleeping. I agreed with Dean back in 7.03 that the other shoe would drop for Sam. At first I was thinking to myself would Sam voluntarily check himself into an asylum and then thought how hard that would be for him to do unless he stopped to think he was a danger to himself and others. I still am under the impression while he is in there he is acting crazy. There are so many possibilities that could take place. Cas returns to the show during this episode but in what capacity. I also hope that even though he comes back that we stay somewhat focused on what has happened to Sam and his mental state. I am really excited that we are going to see this happening in some form. I do want to see some brotherly moments with Sam and Dean during this episode because this is so big. There could be some good emotion and angst for Sam and Dean with Sam having a breakdown. I also read the article and that Jared was only going to be off work for a few days. I did not take it as he was missing any of the last episodes at all. That was how I interpreted what he said. I just can't believe how fast time is moving and that before we know it Season 7 will be over and fingers crossed we have Season 8. JIA: I knew you would come here. I remember your old posts on the CW board from the asylum that gave me such a hoot. With Sam being in the asylum I figured your room would be right next door.

I expect a few minutes of Sam sedated and haunted by Lucifer and the rest of the episode is around Dean dealing how it affects him that the other shoe dropped and then an emotional scene for his lost BFF (for the Destiel fans). Then he can give back the trenchcoat, it must already smell like mildew... SG will deliver the Destiel fans I assume... So....I expect very very little of Sam in this episode!!!! Maybe I can be lucky when I see a little more of him than I thouhgt!

So 3 more days until we see Sam have his breakdown. I am still optimistic we will have a great episode and see Jared give another brilliant performance. I enjoyed OWTO. Seeing the effects of Sam not sleeping was just enough that I could see how he was wearing down. Prime example...falling asleep at the wheel. I was yelling at the screen for Sam to wake up. Got a little nervous for a second even though I knew the truck would not hit him.
I think seeing Sam finally crack and be admitted to the asylum is going to be a powerful scene and I am also believing we should have some great interaction between Sam and Dean. I want to see some angst. There should be some intense scenes while Sam is in the hospital. I am wanting to see protective big brother Dean back in gear. In my heart I know I will because this is his little brother and he will do everything he can to help him.
Just some of my thoughts and keeping my fingers crossed. I am feeling pretty optimistic.

We now know from the clips with the producers preview that Dean doesn't put Sam into an institution. He is knocked over by a car, taken to hospital and then the doctors decide to admit him to their locked psyche ward. At first they won't let Dean see him.
We also know that the ep has a lot of Sam in it, features some apparently great acting from Jared in it, plus a case in the hospital. Of course it also has the Dean/Cas stuff, but I don't get the impression that will be the whole ep. And of course Dean only finds Cas because he is trying to get help for Sam.
I'm a bi bro, can take or leave Cas, brotherly bonding fan, and I am pretty optimistic. All the comments from those who saw the ep in preview yesterday have been incredibly positive. Surprisingly - but several journos have commented on it so it must be true - they even raved about some great special effects.

Do you suppose this was going through Sammy's mind while in the asylum?

I was extremely pleased with how Sam's breakdown turned out. Jared played it perfectly and the moments with Lucifer were brilliant. Lucifer continuously taunted and tortured Sam so he could not sleep. He looked beyond exhausted. He said it best in the alley when he ran into the dealer that all he wanted was some rest. Seeing Sam in that states was heartbreaking. Even with the amount of sedatives the doctor said they gave him Lucifer was still able to torment him enough to stay awake.
Impressed he was able to help the young women seeing her ghost brother. After the Electric Shock treatments when Sam was locked inside him self staring at his hallucination of Lucifer Dean and Cas watching over him was sad. I think if Cas would not have come up with the plan to "shift" Sam's hallucinations upon himself Dean would have been even more devastated seeing his little brother that way. I was hoping it was Dean that helped Sam get rid of his hallucinations but I will say the end surprised me. The special effects were cool and I knew there was a possibility Cas would help Sam I just hoped it was Dean however, Cas did break the wall in Sam's head. Cas does not require sleep so that should not be a problem for him.
My only other thought is that it really was a quick fix for Sam. I know Sam will always be effected from his time in the cage with Lucifer but I do wonder if towards the end of the season something takes place that still will effect Sam's psyche in some other fashion. Only time will tell.
I was happy with how Sam's breakdown was written. Jared was phenomenal in The Born-Again Identity. His work in the episode was amazing and shows what a talented actor he is. He played Broken!Sam perfectly.

After watching The Born--Again Identity several times, I still feel that the quick fix that Cas gave Sam to get back on his feet may still hold some twist. Not sure what that may be but the scene at the beginning of Party On, Garth keeps me wondering. Sam tells Dean he is getting better even though the crazy shifted to Cas. The way Dean responded just made me think Sam is not 100% which is what I believe and that how Sam feels is just that, a quick fix. I don't see Sam's mind 100%. He still has the memories of Hell that he has yet to even speak of. He needs an emotional moment with Dean in regards to these memories and then maybe start to heal. Sam in my opinon will never be completely healed from his time in Hell but he does need to function. Sorry, if I made that sound confusing. I simply believe there is more going on with Sam still then meets the eye or I could be way off as well.
