So, as many of you know, TNT runs 2 SPN eps, generally in order every weekday morning. Yesterday they started over with the Pilot and Wendigo. Today was Dead In The Water and Phantom Traveler. I often find that I have very different impressions of episodes as time goes on, as new things happen in the show, and upon re-viewing, (usually many, many times). So, here is a place to go all the way back to the beginning and comment on whatever!
1. What an incredibly good pilot! J&J already had chemistry, and everything from the music to the special effects was just dead on. Not many shows start that strong.
2. Even before Sam found Jessica, as Dean was driving away, he was standing on the sidewalk having second thoughts. He had already said in the car that maybe he could hook up with Dean later, and outside seemed to be feeling torn about not staying with him altogether. Of course this does little to dissuade Dean from his own sense of guilt, but it certainly siggests to me that Sam was already thinking of going back at least in some way.
3. While Jessica's death was undoutedly more painful for Sam than for Dean, it also occured to me, that it must have been awful for Dean as well. He remembers his Mother's death, and it is even mentioned in DITW that it was so traumatic that he didn't talk for some time afterward. To sweep his brother out of yet another flaming room, must have been again pretty horrific.
4. At the end of the ep, after Jessica's death, Dean said nothing, and even seemed a little surprised that Sam was prepping to leave. It was Sam who said "we've got work to do"... without any pressure from anyone.
5. Wendigo is really X-files-y. Lighting, canada woods, music, mood. I wouldn't want the whole series to be like that, but that one was nice.
6. It is really good that they did another pass at the black demon smoke...the effect in PT is pretty weak.
Join me, I always feel a little loosely attached to reality when I discuss things by myself!
