As a gay man myself, I certainly hope that the OP is not implying there is something disgusting about being gay, and only has an objection to the pairing in the poll.

IMO, Dean most definitely swings both ways- a thousand little details that I don't have the time to list have shown that to me over the years. In particular, I believe it was Sam who said that Dean uber-butch attitude alluded to over-compensation. I think Aeryn said this too, but I'm sure she was joking.
P.S. Aaryn, you surprise me. With that avatar of you have of the overly made up drag queen (Seriously, WAY too much Maybelline Thick Lash on her- I'm not judgin', I'm just sayin') I expected you to have more of a gay sensibility.

On the other hand, I do think Dean and Cas having a "relationship" outside of friendship (and even that is sketchy) is rather out there. Cas may (and certainly has) benefited from knowing Dean, but Cas brings absolutely nothing to the table that is any benefit to Dean. Sure lots of relationships are lop-sided, but completely one-sided? That's no good.

On the other other hand, it seems obvious to me that E!Online wants Dean/Cas to win, because of "kerfluffles" like the one on this thread- little tiny dramas is what bring hits to their website. They want people who hate D/C as much as those who love it- because either way, it's more votes. So they have paired D/C in the brackets with some of the weakest ships on the poll- Will/Emma (who cares?), Howard/Bernadette (seriously?), and now Callie/ Arizona, who even their own writers are bored with.

So, D/C are practically guaranteed to win- and people who get worked up over hating that aren't doing anything but getting themselves worked up.

Secondly, of COURSE Castiel has something to bring to the table. He's so damn cute! Plus he has angel mojo.

I personally don't see the Dean/Cas pairing. When I watch, I just see a close friendship. Destiel caught me off guard when I first saw it. I don't see anything romantic there at all. Still, I don't get all pissy about it.

I remember thinking in S5 "here's Sam, his every waking thought is being desperate for redemption; here's Cas, a living embodiment to the idea of God giving redemption to man- WHY don't they hardly ever even TALK?!" In fact, I remember reading some really awesome "off-screen" S/C codas to Swan Song that were really dear to my heart. *le sigh*
But I'm used to not getting what I want, and S6 sank that ship for good, for me anyway- I know some of my Sassy friends still hold out.

Ye Gods, so true, SPN has tossed so much earth-shaking story potential.

I was a little confused that thousands year old angel "brings nothing to the relationship".
But then, SPN did show that Cas was the one dying for Dean (repeatedly). I never got why Cas stayed around. His life went to Hell from hanging with Dean too much. Cas should have realized, "my relationship with this bossy drunk keeps getting me into trouble"

Could you PM me links if you remember any of those old Sassy codas?? SPN has some awesome fan fics. I like stories about redemption, & SPN really underserved Sam/Cas.

jensenrick- kudos to a very well said post i may be a straight female, but i hate it when others judge people based on personal bias.

i tend to agree with you about dean swinging both ways. truthfully, i've always had this feeling that he's bi. i honestly couldn't explain what it is that makes me think this tho

like many, i just don't see 'destiel'. cas may be an etherial being, but he's very childlike in his naivety when it comes to understanding humans and their ways.

Like you said this isn't a couple. And your right, talk about trying to get them to the finals. But then again, they have no way of winning, Glee is too strong plus they'll have SPN fans that will vote for Glee aswell. I don't even know the couple that Dean and poop head are up against. Although their fans said the same thing about Dean and Castipop. lol.

About Cas, let me clarify. I didn't say he brings nothing, and didn't mean to imply Cas doesn't have a lot of great qualities, because he does.
What I said was, he brings nothing for Dean- meaning that I don't think he possesses the qualities that Dean needs.
If was going to picture Dean in a same sex relationship *cough*, it would be with someone wise and capable, probably even a bit older- a rock that Dean could lean on. Dean always has to do so much for himself, never wanting anyone to take care of him- so that's exactly what he needs despite himself. Now Cas has a lot of great qualities, but- he's not that guy.

As for the Sassy codas, I'd love to share them with you. I don't have much time before I have to get to work, but I'll look for them and send them tomorrow.

If I recall correctly, several of them were rather tame and sweet, with Cas just hugging Sam- getting Sam over the idea that Cas would be offended to even touch Sam. Then in the Swan Song coda, they have a "this is Sam's last night" moment together and consummate.

Oooh, that made me remember the least vanilla one. Tell me if this would interest you and I send it as well.
This was a coda to the ep were Soulless Sam threatens to kill Cas, and Cas says "Will you - - boy?" The author writes this AWESOME post-ep HateSex scene, where Soulless Sam is struggling to dominate and assert him *cough* primal urges, but Cas uses his superior angel strength to hold Sam down and make him take it. It *just* skirts the edge of dub-con, partly because Soulless has no emotional connection to the idea of consent anyway, and once Cas convinces him that he'll achieve "completion" if he just submits, he gets into it. VERY hot. So let me know if you want that one too.

It's the cutest! There's a LJ community called Sassy_OTP, and it had some of the cutest fanarts I've ever seen, so much is just them doing nice things for each other. One of the most prolific artists, did a short comic with no dialogue called "My Tall Friend Sam" that became the unofficial symbol of the com.
In it, Cas is in a field looking sad, Sam is concerned, Cas implies that he can't fly. Sam puts Cas up on his shoulders and runs, Cas spreads his arms and gets a big grin on his face. I love that one, I'll have to find it again and share it with you guys.
