Season 8...Thoughts? ((Possible Spoilers))

The decision on whether or not Supernatural will be picked up for an 8th season is looming. While we have virtually no effect on whether or not this happens, I'd still like to hear your opinions. Should there be a season 8? What would you like to see happen in season 8? Do you think the writers have more for us..or has it all been done? Are you dissatisfied with the development of one or more characters and are hesitant to see further damage?

For me personally, season 6 was an epic fail and left me totally DREADING season 7. Soulless Sam, while sexy as always, was not our dear Sammy and left us without him and his character development for half of the season. Dean's storyline with Lisa was OOC for me. Dean has ALWAYS been a hunter. I couldn't fathom him wanting to put baby in the garage and hang up his hunting boots to shack up with Gumby girl just because Sam asked him to. I would expect to see him living with Bobby and hitting the books on how to free Sam from the cage. How the HELL could he sleep at night knowing his baby brother was being tortured by Lucifer? Yuck. Hated it.

Do I even NEED to get into what they did with Castiel? Okay..I will. FIRST OF ALL, his main arc was stopping douchebag Ralphael from starting the apocalypse all over again. For some reason...no one seemed to care. Even though that was a pretty big deal in the previous season, it now became strictly Cas's fight and they turned his and Dean's relationship into a Master with a pet angel sort of deal. Then Cas goes and works with CROWLEY...some how becomes a good liar and manages to piss in TFW's cheerios, thus causing them to turn on each other. Enter Godstiel. No. Just no. All of it. The Castiel we knew and loved regarded Dean as his leader and respected his opinion. He would have stopped when Dean asked him to. Oh, and this just in, Cas is a SUCKY liar...but somehow he became a master manipulator and managed to sneak around all season undetected? The ONLY redeeming quality to that storyline is that Cas manages to grow a pair and stand up for himself, and he ends up smiting the Westboro Baptist Church a church of hateful hypocrits.

Ok. Moving on from that.

So my expectations for season 7 were low. Turns out, I was wrong. Even though they killed off Cas and Bobby there are still far more gems and brotherly moments in this season than the pitiful one before. I've laughed my ass off, cried, and bounced up and down with enjoyment. The only negatives for me are that 1.)Dean's excessive angsting is getting old 2.)Everyone is DYING and 3.)the leviathans are a snoozefest and the story is going no where. Still, those negatives can still be redeemed. Maybe after this season, bad ass hunter Dean who loves his job will FINALLY return. The writers seem to be giving all of the characters they killed back to us at some point (7.17 HURRY UP). Aaaand Sam's long awaited mental breakdown should be awesome.

Basically, I'm all for a season 8. If season 7 can be better than 6, then obviously the writers have more to give us. What do you guys think? What would you like to see? Let's get some discussion going!

I have no doubt in my mind that there is plenty of potential for a season 8 and the only thing that the might hold it back is the imagnation of the writers. If Jared and Jensen are game (and they are the only ones of the cast that really are indispensible), then let's keep this ball rolling.

I agree that some of the storylines have been huge messes. Dean's time with Lisa was rediculous since it was suddenly being painted that Dean always wanted the sterotypical suburban family life (while ignoring the fact that this had been Sam's lifelong desire). Souless Sam was more interesting to me, but a lot of the potential was wasted because we were never allowed to really see the world from that perspective. We only saw Souless Sam through Dean's eyes. And the Campbell clan was a squandered opportunity in the worst sense. I would have loved to see a family of strong, devoted and for the most part emotionally healthy hunters who didn't sit around staring at their navels and angsting over the unfair lot they were dealt with in life. They would have been an amazing support network for Sam and Dean and to drive home the fact that hunting is a difficult but extremely noble and necessary profession (and perhaps could have put a stop to all this angsting about the unfair lot in life that the Winchesters had been harping on).

As far as Castiel goes - that storyline should have been wrapped up at the end of season six. I get that some fans were very unhappy that not only was Castiel being removed from the show, but that Castiel was being removed as anything less than a hero. But the storyline for that character played out and keeping him around to keep one portion of the fandom happy (without having a valid reason within the plot to keep the character there) was not to the benefit of the show. I don't have any issues with how they resolved Castiel's storyline (as the character has been shown to have a pretty shakey and easily manipulated moral compass). And I don't have any issues with the character going out as a villian (or at least the dupe of a villian). Revisiting the whole thing by bringing Castiel back in some capacity for an encore is pretty pointless and a distraction from the more important elements of the story.

Season 8 can work for me by giving the Leviathan storyline some real room to play out (it just seems too big to wrap up in a single season) and allow some real emotional growth for Sam and Dean. Dean is slowly in the process of rediscovering why he's a hunter (and the sooner we can get him out of the woe-is-me angsting about what a crap life he has, the better). Sam is going to be rebuilding his sanity. There's plenty of story left to tell. The writers just need to get on with it.

While I was disappointed with many aspects of season 6, I was in NO WAY dreading a season 7.

Season 6 had WAY too many storylines to tell any of them with amount of time necessary to completely flesh them out. The Campbells were introduced, but we really didn't get their story, other than the fact they were hunters. Here they are -- there they go. I liked the soulless Sam storyline. Jared does good evil! And not quite knowing what was off with him made it more suspenseful. Dean's time as a family man was a bit brushed over, but that's okay since we know he's a hunter deep down in his soul. I thought the Castiel falling into darkness was a bit much. After all his dealings with Lucifer and other demons why would he suddenly conspire with Crowley? Misha may have been a series "regular" but his time in very few episodes that season were not that fulfilling.

I've enjoyed much of season 7. I just wish the writers/producers wouldn't drag the Leviathin storyline out so long. Get to the point of why they're here, what they hope to accomplish, how the boys deal with it .... AND LET'S GET MOVING!!

All that being said, I would love a season 8. Jensen and Jared are a joy to watch (it's so sad they don't seem to be on anyone else's radar) and their time on the screen would make me watch them reading from the phone book.

The only thing I hated about season 6 was that Sam wasn't Sam, so the dynamics between Sam and Dean were non existent, but the second half of the season was amazing. Season 7 started out strong with the frist two episodes but started going down hill with all the fillers, I mean there are a couple of moments from each episode that I enjoyed, but I want to say that I enjoyed the WHOLE episode.

I agree with this. S6 was a real tale of 2 halves for me. I am loving s7 so bring on s8 (and 9....)

As long as Cas is out of he picture by the end of season 7 I don't care what they do in season 8. The angel story has outlived it's purpose by more than 3 years. It needs to go.
Since they've not done much with Levi's, I'm thinking that's where they will go. I hope
Dean finally gets his crap together and stops being so emo. Hopefully Sam will be able to cope with whatever happens to him when he has his breakdown. I want to see the boys really together and fighting evil.
