Down at the bottom of each page on this forum you'll find a mesage that says 'Click Here to Make This Board Ad-Free.' If you'd like to contribute to keeping ads off the board for registered users, please contribute! You can do so in any amount, even $1. $7 buys us 50,000 ad-free views. When we first created The Evicted on Dec. 19th, 2011 we had no idea we'd even get 50,000 page-views in a month. Shows you what we knew. We sometimes burn through 50,000 page views in a week, thanks to our popularity with members. Thank you to the many who have already contributed. And if you'd like to see the board remain ad-free, please help out if you can!

We had 14 credits added today by some generous donor to keep us ad-free. They don't tell us who added them, just that they were added. So, to whoever it was, thanks!

I have an idea.
Mike Huckabee was talking on the radio (I only listen to his brief commentaries which are sort of like those of Paul Harvey) about one man's solution to the cursing problem.
A swear jar.
Aeryn alone could keep this site going.

I've got a better idea. Contact Mike Huckabee and suggest that he send some of his campaign money here to fund ad-free views at The Evicted.
Of course, we're not all Republicans, but if he's wide enough in his views to support Democrats and the occasional anarchist as well, we'd be glad to see him kick in a few bucks.

I can't even get him to make sure all his three-minute commentaries are online for those of us without iTunes for those rare occasions when I miss one. If I can find someone with iTunes who will let me download the ones I missed (provided they're still there) that would help me. Usually, I can find the one I missed. He's obviously not an extremist because I lean liberal and yet I can usually open my mind enough to think his views are reasonable.

Down at the bottom of each page on this forum you'll find a message that says 'Click Here to Make This Board Ad-Free.' I don't see that message. Was it removed with the hot links?

Do you know how many views this site gets per month? I just read about the ad free program and it says that ad free credits DON'T roll over from one month to the next. If that means they round to the 50,000 views that's one thing, but if someone bought the site 5 million views and there were only 49,000 views that month, does that mean that 4,951,000 views get tossed out?

They don't roll over if they have been applied already to that month. But we get to decide how and when they are applied. When they are donated they go into our account, then we decide when to add more to the current month (or future months, if we wish,)
Last month, for example we almost ran through the 50,000 ad-free views we'd applied very late on the last day of the month. It would have been a waste to apply a new 50,000 views that would be wiped out in only a few hours. Luckily we squeaked by OK. But we would have gone a few hours with them if we had to do so.
Unfortunately the company that gave us forum statistics, such as number of pageviews, etc . . . went out of business last month, so I don't know the exact numbers. However, at one point we were going through 50,000 page views in less than a week. I'd say now it averages somewhere between a week and two weeks.
So far this month we've used just under 60,00 of the 100,000 ad-free views we've applied to May.

I was getting worried. I was afraid to come here at home on Friday after I saw ads even when signed in at the library.

McAfee is blocking content.
Up until now the ads have been fun, but I'm hoping McAfee is catching everything that might be a problem.

Again this month, although we have plenty of credits to apply to ad-free views, we've decided that it would be wasteful to apply them to a period of less than two days. They do not carry over from month to month. So. please bear with it. They should be gone again early Halloween night.

I can't hate on ya, Maze. I spent most of my life in commercial radio, and there's a reason they call it 'commercial.' I also worked in public radio, where it's called 'underwriting' and is much more genteel as well as less obtrusive. Finally, I also did a lot of voice-over work for advertising agencies. So, I'm hardly the one to speak against advertising. Here's the way I see it in our current situation. The ads we see on ProBoards, if we don't buy the ad-free views, all go to ProBoards coffers, not ours. We've been so blessed with incredibly generous members and friends that we have never had to worry about contributions to keep us ad-free since we started almost a year ago. That's amazing. And I have to wonder this--if we were to take those contributions and instead to use them towards web hosting and buying a domain name, could we move from ProBoards to creating our own site where we get to make up our own rules, rather than being beholden to a free message board service? I'll be honest, this has been a goal of mine, and I'm beginning to think that after almost a year of experience we may finally be able to do it. I see a day when we grow into something else, along the lines of Television Without Pity or Ain't It Cool News and have content in addition to the forum. We have so many good writers on this site. Wouldn't it be great if we could pay them to create content for us someday? The question we will have to face down the line is whether we will need the monetization of ad money, and I suspect we will. But, if we do find it necessary, we can choose the sources and make sure they fit our brand, whatever that may evolve into. I'm just guessing that you may have a background in advertising too, or at least an interest in it, and I'd love to talk with you further about it, if you have any interest.
