#Supernatural 7.17 synopsis (March 23) "The Born-Again Identity"

MISHA COLLINS RETURNS! — Lucifer (guest star Mark Pellegrino) drives Sam (Jared Padalecki) to the breaking point and Sam ends up in a mental hospital. Desperate to save his brother, Dean (Jensen Ackles) calls every hunter he knows for help. One of the hunters gives him the name of a healer who turns out to have a very familiar face (guest star Misha Collins). Robert Singer directed the episode written by Sera Gamble.

It sounds exciting, interesting that Cas will be a healer. I still don't know how he ends up in hospital clothes and shit. I don't understand that. I feel bad for Sam and Dean. Dean hates seeing Sam in distress. So even though I feel bad, at least the problems Sam's been having will be known by Dean and again he will do the best to help him.

This sounds like an extremely exciting episode. With all the hunter deaths recently, I wonder who's left to help Sam out? I hope Frank will be involved. He's a great anti-Bobby!

I only read the first paragraph then stopped. I generally don't like to read bias articles. If the person writing it is able to stick to the premise of the show without showing biases then I would read.

I don't know exactly what I was expecting Cas to be, but healer never came to mind.

What I'm curious about though, how Meg is involved? I get Dean's going to be desperate, but I wonder what makes him come to the idea that "oh, well, maybe I should call Meg for help."

Then again, Meg has always seemed to like and/or have a crush on Sam, so Dean could think if he appealed to that part of her, she'd help him.

I think we're going to find Meg WITH Cas. Like maybe she found him and helped him learn how to use his powers (like Ruby did to Sam) so that eventually she can use them for her own gain. If he doesn't remember who he is, she could have easily said she was his sister or girlfriend. I doubt Dean calls Meg.

I'm HYPED for this episode.

Also, I wonder if after this episode when Dean shows up and tells him who he is, he ends up in the loony bin somehow.

I was totally excited by the synopsis and can not wait for this episode. I was thrilled that Mark P. was going to be back even if it is just one more time. Who better than Lucifer to push Sam over the edge. I have been one waiting for Sam's emotional breakdown and being committed to the mental hospital. Reading that Dean will be "desperate" to save his brother makes me think he will now see how bad Sam really is/was and step up to protective big brother mode. Cas being healer should be interesting. I wonder if he will in some way help Sam. I know Sam will always be haunted from his time in the cage but maybe Cas will be able to help with his hallucinations so he can begin to heal. Really looking for the show to get started up again on March 16.

These are the 2 things making me incredibly excited for this ep. I'm indifferent to Cas's presence or absence from the show.

I'm a little surprised there is no mention of Meg, or at least the line of "Dean turning to an unlikely ally to help Sam."

I've gotten to point that I take anything said by any of those connected with the show with a grain of salt because they seem to love messing with us and giving us false idea of what the upcoming episode is going to be like.

That being said, I still read them!

Then I wait for LoveJeter to do her play by play of the episode while the east coasters are watching it.

You are exactly right Shadow. I am losing interest in this fandom. It's just not what it used to be. This convention that took place this weekend was more for an excitement for Cas and Misha than it was for the boys. I don't know if all this Misha/Cas mania is because people follow in to what ever is considered popular at the moment or what? Because people hated Cas when he first appeared, then little by little people started to make him more important then he really is, and when that happens people just follow and like what ever is the most popular at the moment. Just like Cas is. I know this is just my opinion, so if you disagree that is fine.

Besides the excitement for Misha/Cas this conventions weekend the shippers of Desitel were out in full force. Then we have Jim Micheals constantly replying to Destiel shippers on his twitter. Last night he replied to a fan who asked to make Destiel canon and he would make her day if they did. In which he replied "You never know who would make you day" this constant mentions of Destiel and less mentions of the relationship between Sam and Dean, or even SAM! Makes me worry for a season 8. I don't know if I want it now.

I know I sound harsh. You're not at all alone in feeling like this. It's dishearting when a supporting character is being held as more important that the leads by this obnoxious and very vocal contingent of the fandom. I have no issues with those who genuinely liked Castiel and liked what it brought to the show (though I wish that they would at least be honest at the harm as well as the good things done of the character, but that's a discussion for another thread). But these freaks who want to remake SPN into the bad slash fanfiction that they keep reading on Tumblr really make me sick. And they are impacting on my ability to enjoy this show.

I hate the fact that Jim Michaels seems to be pandering to this lot (or it could be read that he's just fucking with them and stringing them along so he can watch their heads explode). And the fact that so much is happening with both the Winchesters at this time, and with Sam in particular, makes their behavior at the con even more rediculous. These "fans" don't care about Sam, and Dean is cared about only because he's attached to Castiel. If Dean turns on Castiel once and for all during this mini-arc (and I think that's all it's going to amount to), you'll see the fireworks on Tumblr from Mars.

Unfortunately the storyrunners created a real monster when they added Castiel to the show. Well, thankfully this show knows how to take care of monsters. I'm hoping that after these few eps (and I don't think Misha's return will be for more than these few eps), the Destiel farce will be salted and burned once and for all.

From what I read about the con, Jensen is sick of it too. He sighed when he was asked for the 40 billionth time about the hand print. He said at last that they freakin forgot the stupid thing when they did the shirtless scene.

I'm also rapidly losing interest in the show. I feel so bad since I really love the guys and the show but I just can't stand the constant pushing of Cas down our throats and I'm just fed up.

Amelianne, the problem is not how Dean reacts, the Dean we know and love!!!
The problem is how the writers want to cater the Destiel fans!!! Like they forgot, that this show is about Dean AND Sam, they are feeding not the heart of this show which is still for me the brothers relationship!

They are feeding the wrong block! The way the fans have pushed for Cas and Misha makes it seem they might keep him for a season 8, even Jensen is doing that, but part me thinks he does that just for show. If Cas sticks with a season 8, I am out.

I agree. I haven't bothered to read much about the con Sunday. It's always the same questions, the guys act cute like always, but the pushing of Cas as if he's the most important person just disgusts me. If he's so damn important and they love the guy so much why didn't they add him to the cast and have him in the back seat? Gah I'm making myself sick typing that.

I am overjoyed that Cas will be back, that I will have him on my tv screen again for however short or long the time will be.

I am delighted that Misha loves working on the show with his friends, and that they enjoy working with him too. I LOL at the cons, especially the antics of Misha and Jared, and Seb. They have such chemistry on stage and off, it must make the long work days go fast with all the fun and friendship.

When Heroes was on, I was a member of the fandom but never got the up close and personal experience that I have so much enjoyed with the cast and crew of Supernatural. There was a segment of the fandom who called themselves the "Sarmy" as in, Sylar's Army. I loved to hate Sylar, was crushed when he crucified and cut Issac's head in half - because Issac was an artist and I related to him. But I didn't stop watching the show, and the fact that there was a segment of fans who loved Sylar didn't bother me, didn't make me love Peter or Issac or mourn his death any less. And I certainly wasn't so obsessed that the idea that someone, somewhere out there in the vast viewing audience might like Sylar didn't change my feelings toward the character, any of the other characters, the story, the writers, the actors, or the fans in general.

And I was actively hoping that Sylar wasn't dead at the end of Season 1, because he added a needed dynamic to the show that would have been so much less without him.

Castiel adds a similar needed emotional & character dynamic to the show, and I for one am excited to have him back.

Hi anicat, again, its not that the character can't add something to SPN, its the way the writers, showrunners handle it! Are they making Destiel canon in a not much physical way? The "etherial" brother" of Dean? Another one? Should he save him like Sam? Did Dean save Sam?

It's the way of telling the story that makes me upset. Washing over all things Castiel has done, not acknowledge it, I want to see that they let him crawl to Sam's and Dean's feet, SPECIALLY Sam's!!!! Sam took all ..I say all....responsibility for things even they were not in his hands! Will the show white washing a character because fans like the childlike innocent image of a human possessed by a supernatural being? Only because of fans at conventions, who are starting to ignore Sam's journey just to catch up on the little angel on Dean's shoulder?

Dean I know and love would send him to hell for what he did....alltogether and specially to Sam! No matter how adult Sam is now, they need to protect each other!

Anicat I appreciate your comment, I understand a little more what you mean bringing him back, I see there are Castiel fans and Castiel fans outside. The thing for me is what story they want to tell and how far they would abandon the original uniqueness of the series for some crying out loud, demanding and insulting fans. That makes me hate the character to no end!!!

And what are they doing? They kill off the real human aspect, the family aspect is not much there anymore. Bobby was the last bastion of humanity for me. Now we have only the broken, damaged brothers, one invasive (highly visible) depressed and the other OFFSCREEN halucinating Lucifer and onscreen obvious fine (except the last episode)! Since Sam came back from hell we didn't get focus on him. How long is it now? Three years! I count the year where he was soulless and his soul was still in the cage!

I wanted so badly the brothers talking about that, Dean asking Sam. He did it once...once while Sam was without soul. Since then there is nada..... nothing!! And I want to add that Sam has not one supporting character around him, the only one is Dean and Dean is to obsessed with depression and revenge.

To me, it looks like Dean and Castiel are in the Impala. If it is the Impala, I'm thrilled it's back, but I'm hoping that Cas isn't the first one to ride with Dean since they got it back.

Hopefully, this shot is later on in the episode after he and Sam have rode around together in it.

IDK, given that the Impala's practically their home, it would be weird to me if Cas was the first person to ride in it.

Misha says, in an interview, that he's back for about 4 episodes. Man, I hope they don't jump the Cas-shark by bringing him back AGAIN. How any times can Castiel be destroyed and brought back in the same vesse? That didn't happen with the YED or Meg and I think the writers/producers of the show are banking on Misha's personal popularity.

But no one, not even Bobby is as popular as Sam and Dean and it would probably be better to bring back a changed Castiel in a new vessel.

Now Misha's saying 4 episodes. I always heard it was going to be 3. Maybe they decided to do an extra one since the time is getting closer and closer for Gen to have the baby. And they wanted to make sure that if she ends up having it while they are in the middle of shooting an episode, Dean won't all of a sudden be on his own after he and Sam have been working the case together.

Anyway, I just read somewhere that the car is NOT the Impala. If I understood it correctly, they just finished up shooting Episode 19 and they still don't have the Impala.

Though I have to admit, that car looks an awful lot like the Impala. I guess the other possibility could be that it was the Impala, but in a flashback sequence.
