Okay! Hollyweb! Before too much more time passes, and memories get buried under this coming week's adventure in Vancouver. Day 1 .... First thing: lack of sleep! I was Zombie Girl, by the end of the first night (Friday) because I counted by that point I had been up for something like 32 hrs straight. By the time I got to the house where I was staying, it was 36 hrs. I couldn't sleep the night before I left, couldn't sleep on the flight...in fact, adding up the days vs hours of sleep, from Thurs waking up until arriving home at 11:30 am on Tuesday, I had a total of nine hours of sleep. Hollyweb was that much of a non-stop experience. Friday! Arrival in LAX. First time in LA. I just had my big SPN Crew duffel with me, so no need to rescue luggage from a baggage carousel. On the advice of Jonathan Robbins - creator and actor, from the series Clutch, Asset & Out With Dad - I took the Super Shuttle into Hollywood. At first my natural Southern inclination to chat with total strangers was rather discouraged, but it didn't take long for me to win over the driver (all the passengers in the back sat in silence, what a shame, travel is so much more pleasant when its a social experience and not filled with people acting like old prunes) and we had a lovely discussion on all sorts of topics. He dropped me off at the Hotel Roosevelt, and from there I started texting "Arrived! Can someone pls come get me?" LOL! The Shuttle COULD have taken me to the house, but it would have been a whole bunch more money, vs $19 for the hotel. Team Asset to the rescue! Two of the actors were on their way out, Jeff & Tonya, so swung by and got me, took me to the house, then went on their way to another event going on. "The House" was an AirBnB rental in the Hollywood Hills that "Team Asset/Clutch" secured for their group...they are sort of the Toronto version of our Frostbite. A large extended family, with several high-end award-winning series. When Jonathan heard I was looking for a place to stay for the festival, he offered to let me join their group, I was adopted into their family! (Ivan: "I'm not so sure I like the idea of you sleeping with the enemy." LOL!!!!) OMG was that house posh. Something like 5 bedrooms, beautiful kitchen, loft, living/dining room area, hardwood floors...and a backyard to die for. Outdoor firepit with seating all around, covered deck area, seating areas scattered around under trees & whatnot. Free wifi. It was an expensive rental, but when divided out among so many people, it came to around $43/night for me. Awesome! So that first late afternoon, I drop off my stuff, then try to figure out how to get to Raleigh Studios, where Hollyweb was held. Raleigh is where Castle & Scandal film, and former home of Boston Legal, Ugly Betty, and some other big series. I looked it up on Google maps...hey, I think I can walk this! Yeah, bad idea for someone yet to get familiar with the area. AND it was cold, totally not dressed for that. AND the sun was setting. Long story short, something like 4.5 miles later, I meet up with my peeps at their hotel...that was all of 2 blocks from Raleigh. Cold thru, exhausted - sleep-deprived - lost my way twice - yeah. I was a mess. We were waiting for Jason to get in - he was working in the SPN offices all day, so didn't get in until 9pm. So me & 2 of the creators of our "Under the HUD" (Ryan & Holly) and 2 of my Aeternus peeps Derek & Daniel all hung out in Derek's room. SO nice to finally meet Ryan and Holly in person! Totally cool people, VERY nice. Jason arrived around 10pm, we all walked a couple blocks to this trendy hipster foodie bistro, commandeered a table, and had an awesome couple hours. Actually, it was the first time we were all in the same place together, two of our teams plus Jason plus me. (Side note: Vancouver Webfest will be even more so, the first time creators/actors representing ALL the series will be in the same place at the same time. We will be missing a bunch, but still! Our Frostbite Family is going to be an ARMY! W00t!!) Jason was very tired from his long day, he could see how wiped out I was...so he stuck me in a cab & sent me home after the late dinner/drinks socializing. Team Asset was back from their day of adventuring & playing tourist, we chatted a bunch, I caught up with my tweeting duties...and maybe around 3am I was lights out.

Anicat's adventure both good & bad. Anicat's poor feet. LA posh is super posh. I want to know, did you see a "celebrity" get drunk? How many films did you see?

Did my first interview yesterday! A week or so ago the WebVee Guide people tweeted me, asking if I would be interested in doing an interview with them.
After I got done verifying that they had actually meant to tweet me, and not someone else much more important & interesting than me, of course I said yes! And then emailed Jason right away, asking if he would want to join me...because 1) he can talk much more polished & from a point of knowledge on the business side of Frostbite & the origins/how the studio came together than I can, and 2) because no way I wanted to fly solo on my first interview experience!
Good thing too, because it was about 1:15 of discussion & conversation, and no way I would have been able to hold my own for that long with the very thoughtful and detailed sorts of questions and answers going on, LOL.
Afterwards, the guy said he still had notes & questions left over, and he'd like to have us back to continue the discussion! I said "Next time, let's get Ivan here to answer some of these." hehe
All in all, it was pretty cool! And still feeling flattered + a bit bemused that this entertainment site and blog reached out to me & wanted to chat with me specifically. Very surreal!

Hey NC!! From the things being planned for next year, it looks like I will have: Vancouver, NYC, Hollywood/LA, Alberta and maybe Toronto on my Frostbite travel schedule. Have SPN crew duffel carry-on, will travel! Seriously, that has been one of the best gifts, ever. SO useful. I can fit a ton of stuff in it!

Thanks AA! I actually have a bit of free time tonight. Okay, not really - I have a pitch/One-page to do for Robin Dunne. But I don't have any real design idea in my minds-eye yet, so am waiting for inspiration before I start on that project. Hollywood / Day 2 Got up early Sat morning, so I could catch a ride from Jeff Burns - the guy who created the webseries "Super Knocked Up" and the live weekly geek talk series "Super Geeked Up" (which is super-fun, you guys should check it out!) My housemates were going to walk out to the Reservoir and then go play tourist. So much to do & see in Hollywood/LA! Jeff & I checked in at the front gate - Raleigh Studios is where Castle, Scandal are filmed...and former home of Boston Legal, Ugly Betty. There was a classic Corvette stingray parked next to the big bay door where the Castle set is...with a Castle tag in the windshield...I was SO hoping that might have been Nathon's car, because doesn't that seem like a car he would drive? It was the weekend, no filming going on, alas. But at least I got to see where the action happens. Very cool morning watching screenings! A very posh screening auditorium set up. Seeing series on the big screen for the first time...OMG they look SO cinematic! Fully tv-movie quality. Incredibly impressive. You just don't get that effect while watching them small on a computer screen, or even smaller on a smartphone. Jason was still wiped from his long day on SPN + flight + late night, and so was I, so we both went back to his hotel room for naps, LOL! Like a couple of kindergarteners, we needed naptime. Then we put our heads together & hit the internet and local area guide, looking for a good place to hold all our crew for a drinks/hangout party after the day's screenings. We found a likely spot: sort of a bar/nightclub type place. Then took a cab back to the studio and enjoyed the rest of the screening blocks. Cheering on our own as well as all our friends! I tell you what, sitting in that theater, with my friends, watching series...it was a magic feeling, being a connected part of my filmfamily & film community. After that, we all divided up into cabs, cars, etc and headed over to the bar. Called "Fatty's" in case anyone is interested. As in Fatty Arbuckle. Two giant long tables were barely enough to fit all of us...because it was our own Frostbite family, plus the Actress Diaries gals, the Fools for Hire guys, and some other of our friends...so it was quite the crowd! And SO VERY LOUD!!!! The dj had cranked the music up to jet engine decibels, so it was almost impossible to hear each other. And then I had my Hollywood moment! I was at the end of one of the tables, with one empty seat next to me. This guy sits down, sticks out his hand, says "Hi! I'm Sam." So we hang out, chat as best we can - screaming in each other's ears over the music - and have a great time. Me and Sam...as in Sam Witwer, the vampire from Being Human, and BSG. I was nose-to-nose with Sam Witwer! One of our gals who will be voice-actor for our animated "Under the HUD" season 2 is friends with him, so he heard about our little party & decided to drop by. Totally cool! We're friends & tweeps now, and I promised him that as soon as I hear of a project being planned that he might be interested in, I would let him know so he can check it out. Wouldn't that be awesome? He's such a great guy. No, I didn't ask for a pic with him, me trying to be cool and not a fangirl. But Jeff is a total fangirl, so he got a photo with Sam, LOL!! After the party, I caught a cab back to the house, caught up on my email & social media, hung out & talked over our respective day's events with my Asset/Clutch housemates, then crashed. A long & very full day, so much fun!

Hi Anicat, How do you keep all that information in your head? Or do you keep a lot of information on your phone? Sounds like you have lots to keep busy with in the coming months. I have a very accurate memory when I am experiencing things that are interesting event sequences. I also have excellent spatial memory - if I have been someplace once, I can always find my way back. I could probably find my way from LAX out to Hollywood just from remembering the drive in the shuttle, and now know my way around Hollywood fairly well, because of the walk-abouts & cab rides. So I just remember texting Jeff on Saturday morning to see if he could pick me up, and it all just sort of flows from there.

HA! - the guys want to get me a minion. A minion of my very own! Aww, and it's not even Christmas. Someone who can deal with the filmmakers, work with them to coordinate interviews, articles, social media needs, etc. I added "must be actively plugged-in and 100% self-starter" because I really don't want to sit on people & constantly goose them to get stuff done. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt! I had finally reached maximum capacity last week, surprise! Never thought it would actually happen, usually having a full plate of work makes me happy. But there was just a little too much this time. So, after dealing with a new need of making a spreadsheet for keeping track of all our media contacts & outlets and filling some entries in, I sent the links to all the guys with a rather passive-aggressive message: "Here's a link to the spreadsheet to use for our contacts & their companies & article/podcast/etc stats...and now if ya'll would please let me finish some of the pile I'm already working on before adding more, I would appreciate it!" Ivan, bless his noble heart, sent an email the next morning, asking everyone to back off. He is very protective of me, and so is Jason...they are made of awesome and I am very blessed to know & work with such creative, smart & amazing guys! So the pile is back to manageable amounts. Today I was feeling good after successfully pulling together an asap pitch package I got this afternoon for a VERY COOL VIP meeting opportunity for one of the current projects in the wheelhouse, finishing & sending out revised art for another need, doing a 3rd logo comp for a gal & sending that...crossing things off the list! Yay! Also something I think is so cool is that I'm in good company, everyone in my filmfamily is a high-energy, multi-project creative & hardest-working soul. Was messaging with my filmBFF this afternoon, she has her tv day job, the thriller series she & the team are working on, writing a second season for a new series recently added to our family, work on Aeternus, work on another noir concept that I DEARLY love, gave notes on an idea PLUS notes on an animation spec script. Wow! But par for the course in our group. I love how Jason put it, during our interview for WebveeTV. He said when he & Ivan were discussing forming the studio, they both agreed on having a core basic rule: "No douchebags allowed." OMG!!! That's awesome. Love it!!

Hi Anicat, Good for you for sticking up for yourself and setting some boundaries. You are only one person and you need time away from work also. Working a lot is fine but time away helps to recharge the mind and with what you do, you need the time away, so take some. I am glad that Ivan is watching over you, it is good that you have someone like that to help you out when you need it. I know you have been doing this for awhile now, but it is always good to have someone in your corner to help you thru the learning curve.

Thanks, NC. Lets hear it for the boyz!!! Ivan & Jason onstage, featured guests on the big Sunday panel at Vancouver Webfest. Ever want to know them in RL, the people behind the tweets or away from the BTS special features on the dvds? Well, there you go. Jason is already done with his hiatus break, back & hard at work on Season 10. Ivan has been going non-stop, almost quite literally: he's having to pull 10+ hrs days, 7 day weeks. He went home sick early on that Saturday, crashed all the rest of the day, night and thru to less than an hour before the panel. I was worried he would be forced to bail! But he made it, you can't even tell he isn't feeling great in the video. Supernatural guys - current & former - are made of pretty tough stuff.

anicat Wow! They certainly do keep you busy and it is a good thing you put a screeching halt to additional responsibilities until you get some breathing room. I am so happy that you landed your dream job and work with a wonderful group. Thanks for posting the clip. Working ten hour days as an artist is more stressful than ten hours of manual labor and can affect the creative juices. So I hope everybody catches up on their rest.
