Is anyone going to try mine?
I didn't ask a question but there's a hint about what's strange.

I don't get how you know the mother dog's name. Okay, here's a new one. Were I to use a monosyllabic, Anglo-Saxon word that sits atop the 'no say' list, my guess is nothing would change in your existence. You might develop an opinion, have a passing thought, or even choose to be outraged. But, and it's a big but, the choice would be yours. It would not be imposed on you by the word. The word would be, like Kansas once morosely whined, "Dust in the Wind." And yet, we live in a culture that recoils in terror at the word. On broadcast television, the phobia regarding the word has reached the point where even the letter is, in certain instances, no longer acceptable. It has become a subversive letter. According to our network censors, it is generally up to no good. We have been warned. It is being watched! Which brings me to my belabored point. I believe that words by themselves are actually quite impotent. They hardly rise above being noise. Ideas, however--grouping together words in ways that are clever, inane and/or insidious, are dangerous. History proves the wrong idea at the right time can do unbelievable damage. Bad ideas are what the culture should guard against. Which is why I get spooked watching ox News. Is it the 'B' word?

As a burglar is taking something from a house, he accidentally bumps a clock, which falls to the floor, breaks and stops. However, the next morning the police are not able to determine what time the robbery took place. Why not?

Correct
A worm is at the bottom of a well 40 yards deep. It can crawl upwards at the rate of four yards in one day, but at night, it slips back three yards. At this rate, how long will it take the worm to crawl out of the well?

41 days? 4 feet up in 12 hours of daylight, 3 feet down in 12 hours of night (1 foot a day) 40 days to get to the top.... plus 1 day to get to the well wall?

... A worm is at the bottom of a well 40 yards deep. It can crawl upwards at the rate of four yards in one day, but at night, it slips back three yards. At this rate, how long will it take the worm to crawl out of the well? One yard a day equals 36 yards in the first 36 days then he gets to the top edge of the well climbing the last 4 yards on the 37th day. Hopefully he doesn't stop at the edge and slip back the 3 yards or it will take the worm another day.

I was logged out of the boards, but I have my bookmarks set for email notification. 37 days is the correct answer. That took a lot of guesses to get!

New riddles (a few of them are more like word games, but I think that's okay):
______________________________________________________
How much dirt is in a hole that is 3 ft deep, and 6 inches in diameter?
______________________________________________________
A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be..?
______________________________________________________
Each of the clues make up a type of flower, for example "small container + to allow" would be "vial + let", or "violet."
Can you figure out these five?
1. an implement + flesh around mouth 2. foppish + a large carnivorous wildcat 3. to wed + a soft yellow element 4. a false statement + be deficient in 5. indicates an alternative + child
______________________________________________________
In each sentence the name of a tree is hidden. The willow is hiding in the first sentence. Can you find the others?
1. I will owe you a favor if you drive me to the airport. 2. I am afraid of going up in elevators. 3. Drinking cocoa keeps me warm on long winter nights. 4. I hope the map leads us to buried treasure. 5. "Eat another bonbon," said our charming hostess. 6. Nepal may be the most interesting place I have ever visited. 7. Remember to fold the map, please. 8. There is no dirt in the hole, just around it ... or it wouldn't be a hole.

Larry is the name of the fifth son.
The #8 tree is Elm.
I'd look for more but I have an appointment soon.
