Based on the clue in parentheses, find a four-letter word that can be inserted backwards into the blank to complete a longer word.
Example: di____ve (a defeat) Answer: dissolve ("A defeat" gives you LOSS, which is placed backwards in the blank: di_SSOL_ve.)
1. ey____es (stood up) 2. li____er (open meshed fabrics) 3. r____ant (body part) 4. for____b (distance)

1a) competition 1b) satisfied 1c) the circumstances surrounding an act or event
2a) to rain hard 2b) sullen 2c) a number

If you behead the right word (or cut the first letter off) you will form the correct new word. For example behead a word meaning 'not fast' and be left with a word meaning 'not high'. The word you would be looking for is Slow (Low). Now try these:
Behead an animal and leave an animal. Behead an animal noise and leave a vessel. Behead hard work and leave something slippery. Behead a drill and leave a rock. Behead a tool and leave a small road. Behead a musical instrument and leave a musical instrument. Behead what a child does and leave a boating exercise.

The first two are correct, however 'tipsy' is not, as the word needs to have 6 letters and end in 'spy'.

I would have gone Grow/Row for the last one, but as 'lay' does seem to have a rowing connection you can have it.
