Kaylee is like a kid, trying to get Simon to use swear words. Uh oh, Simon is giving Inara admiring looks, but who can blame him? Jayne can be such a jerk sometimes, messing up the lab. I like the way the Captain terminated the discussion. Why are we still arguing what has been decided? Of course they would put a muddy handprint on Simon's suit; he's too lily white soft and clean. Simon is not your typical negotiator. And, he finally cussed. Edit: typos

Snappy song, eh?
I'd love to read River's Bible.

"The man they called Jayne, robbed from the rich and gave to the poor." Plus, the crew's reactions. I'd love to read River's bible too... it'd be an interesting read!

Yes, snappy song. Jayne looks more shocked than anyone.
This is what going mad feels like.

This is such a strain on Jayne's shy retiring nature.

Well, they answered one of my questions. Shepard is very serious about spirituality and faith. But his hair scared poor River. Might have scared Zoe - just a little bit. Of course, Inara would be meeting with the Magistrate. I wonder problem they will be working on.

The hair thing... with spirituality and faith... I don't get that... Looks like the Magistrate is not happy about Jayne coming back? And I can't believe Simon was drunk...

Inara was talking about the captain, right? Figured she'd be quick to defend Mal, but the look on her face when she discovered the boy was talking Jayne was pretty funny...

Oh man, daddy doesn't want his son to be a virgin. Of course, it is a time honored tradition to make sure the sons have some experiences. And apparently daddy does not care about keeping it a secret. Jayne gets very emotional when he is drunk; so different from his usual demeanor. Kaylee might keep Simon drunk.

Am I further along than you guys? I had to fast forward a few seconds in a couple of places in case my television was louder than I anticipated... let's just say this family is too strict as far as seeing anything that might be... ungodly, as they put it (which is why I can't even see Supernatural or Charmed if I wanted to).

Beautiful, beautiful episode wasn't it?
Shepard's hair reminded me a little of Albert Einstein.

Next episode, #8 "Out of Gas" is a great one. It's the one you've been waiting to see, where we're shown how Mal finds his ship Serenity and forms his crew.

Simon really is an easy mark... And Jayne... emotional? Didn't see that one coming! Beautiful episode, just beautiful! Finally! I've been waitin' to see episode 8! Sorry for my delay in posting, had a tiny emergency to tend to. All is well, though... I hope.

Definitely looked like Albert Einstein's hair and the Back to the Future guy. Just keep walking, preacher man. When we made love last night . . . Stitch called Simon a pantywaist idgit. Jayne was suffering remorse over the martyr and I like the explanation Mal gave him - it's not about you Jayne; it's about what they need. Another great episode. Favorite lines paraphrased, of course. Why are we still arguing what has been decided? Your bible is broken. This must be what going mad feels like. Keep walking, preacher man.

What I love about this show is how everyone is so different (and not like any other characters you've ever seen) and yet in spite of those differences they all hang together out of a shared ideal. And what holds them together is a sense of humor. I still like to think that we're a lot like Firefly. Aren't you just itching to use a few of those quotes in responses here? Like 'just keep walking, preacher-man' or 'this must be what going mad feels like.' It could happen.

I am certain there will be many instances when the desire to use some lines from Firefly will be very tempting. I love this series. I can't believe they stopped after 14. Baffling.

With every episode we watch, I find myself agreeing with that statement more and more... we really are like Firefly! I know I'm itchin' to use one of those quotes in a response here!

By the way, did you know that Thomas Jefferson did the very same thing as River Tam? I remember this from a visit to his home, Monticello, long ago. He took out the parts he thought mattered and pasted them together to form his own Bible. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Bible

He took out the parts he thought mattered and pasted them together to form his own Bible. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_BibleJefferson was amazing. He had a tremendous amount of determination and focus to accomplish that task. I can understand why a man of his intelligence would want to separate the pure principles from the rhetoric that surrounded them. Very interesting. Thank you. I guess Wheedon knew about Jefferson's work. Jefferson's memorial in Washington, DC is extensive and impressive. Many of his quotes are etched in what looks like black marble, possibly granite? I spent hours strolling and reading his words. Truly fascinating.

I've always loved this quote about Jefferson. President John F. Kennedy in 1962 remarked at a dinner honoring Nobel prize winners of the Western Hemisphere, "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

Can there possibly be a higher tribute to Jefferson? I love this, and I admire the way you provide the most fascinating information appropriate to the topic. Thank you.
