is getting a shiny new TV special.

To celebrate the cult-favorite sci-fi drama’s 10th anniversary, Science Channel is shooting a new one-hour special chronicling the Firefly cast reunion at Comic-Con this week.

The special — titled Browncoats Unite — will include footage from Friday’s reunion panel, featuring several members of the original team including star Nathan Fillion and creator Joss Whedon. Plus, the cast is shooting an in-depth behind-the-scenes roundtable interview that will dive deeper into burning fan questions about the beloved series. Both the panel and the roundtable will be moderated by Entertainment Weekly‘s own Jeff Jensen.

“Firefly is a landmark work of science fiction and a favorite with our viewers,” said Debbie Myers, general manager and executive vp of Science. “Ever since it premiered on Science, fans have asked us to do something special to mark its 10-year anniversary. With this signature celebration, punctuated by Browncoats Unite, we will connect the minds behind this classic franchise with its legions of passionate fans.”

In addition to Whedon and Fillion, Friday’s 12:30 p.m. Comic-Con panel will feature Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, showrunner Tim Minear, and writer Jose Molina. The special, produced by Pangolin Pictures, promises to unearth defining memories and first-person accounts of making the show from both sides of the camera. Browncoats Unite will air on Science, along with an all-day marathon of Firefly episodes, on Sunday, Nov. 11."

Is it my imagination, or is The Science Channel becoming what the Sci-Fi Channel should have been all along?

The Science Channel is awesome. All the programs about space, wormholes, the birth of stars.

I'll watch the special because of Joss, Tim Minear, and Adam Baldwin...who remembers Adam in My Body Guard and Independence Day? And Angel, of course!

And yeah, Aeryn, I remember him in all of those roles. He's superb in each one, and they're all really varied personalities. He's such a good, decent guy in Independence Day, the complete antithesis of Jayne.

Dammit, I've watched the dvd's until they're about burned out and I can only watch part of the movie because I was so pissed off that they killed off Wash.

Watching this special will only make me said Firefly isn't going to be coming back on the air.

But I'll still probably watch just to get my fix.

Sorry I'm late on this, but tonight is the night for Browncoats Unite! on the Science Channel. It begins at 10pm Eastern Time.

I miss having Big Damn Heroes. But ya know we're luckier than most. Firefly feels like the family I wish I had. But we've already got that here at The Evicted.

So, tonight we celebrate our heritage both as Browncoats and the common things we've found here as a group, our own family, as diverse and funny, and every bit as heroic as Firefly. That's why these characters seem like comrades of ours and live in our hearts.

We already know them. Can you match up Evicted members to the Firefly characters? If so, please post who you think they are. I'll start things off and say Antiarbitrator is our Zoe Washburn.

Oh, and they've been doing a marathon of Firefly episodes on The Science Channel today. You've probably still got time to catch a few episodes if you'd like.

I'm watching the scene where Mel and Wash discuss Zoe while they are being electrocuted.

"War Stories" I love how this episode deals with Wash's jealousy of Mal and Zoe's time in combat together. How, when tortured Mal and Wash refuse to talk about the torture itself, and how Mal gives Wash the anger/courage to survive. Add to that, Zoe's primary allegience to her husband in the rescue.

Then, River's triumphant scene, "No power in the 'verse can stop me," where once again good prevails, even in the face of catastrophic adversity.
