All of that information is good to know. I could not imagine why he killed off Wash since he and Zoe made a great team and Wash added comic relief with his sometimes snarky comments. Serenity was so intense at times that we needed some laughter. No one spilled the beans about Book dying. I thought he survived when you told me about his continuing story. Did you intend to surprise me? Well, I thought Simon was going to save him, so I was shocked that he died. I would like to see a sequel with Book and Wash talking. Edit: If they talked, Wash would tell us what "I am a leaf on the wind." means. Mal asked, What does that even mean?! And Book would tell us about his former life, which he refused to reveal to Mal. I agree about Zoe and Wash. They were just perfect together. A shining example of what a marriage should be. I knew that there was a chance you guys would find out about the deaths in some of the Comic-Con panel discussions, and I was really sorry to see that you caught the spoiler about Wash's demise. I thought about giving a vague warning before we watched, that parts of the movie were really going to be hard to see. But in the end I decided that it was best to just say nothing and let you experience it like I did, with no (or little) foreknowledge. I took Wash's statement "I'm a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar," to be kind of zen-like, and a reference to how he was able to fly through incredible challenges, like all the ships in the space battle. A leaf on the wind is separated from the tree, so it could also be seen as foreshadowing his death.

I would love to see a sequel with Wash and Book talking. That would be wonderful. I love your avatar. Did you just change it?

When asked if he would change anything if he knew that was the end of Firefly/Serenity, I recall Whedon saying he would not have killed Wash. It was still a surprise how and when he died. Wash's statement seemed like an affirmation to me also, but Mal wasn't really into any spiritual mumbo-jumbo. I laughed that he wanted an explanation. He can be so funny.

And don't forget, we have at least one more wonderful bit of Firefly to watch: the documentary "Done the Impossible."

It could be what he told himself in order to be able to do it. An affirmation, like you say.

I really do like River... and in a way, I am kinda like her.. I'm small, but I do some serious butt kicking, and like Summer, I used to be somewhat of a dancer... I remember my dream of being a ballerina. Yeah, I took ballet. But that dream was short lived. I still dance though, sometimes, all I want to do is dance. It is hard to describe the feeling, and I'm not a bad dancer, at all. If Moon remembers in the SFSF over at the CW, I remember saying that I was going to dance in my talent show to 'Save me' by Remy Zero. I don't think I ever told you how I did.

Now that I go back and look, Wash actually said the 'leaf' quote three times in that sequence. It was also a great line to go out on.
Shepard Book had some pretty funny ones for a dying guy, too.

How did you do? 3rd place... I dance better now... but I was beaten by a singer and a guitar player.

Now that I go back and look, Wash actually said the 'leaf' quote three times in that sequence. It was also a great line to go out on. Shepard Book had some pretty funny ones for a dying guy, too. I am re-watching Wash's scene and that was his "famous last words". Zoe did some unusually reckless fighting after that. She was in a fatalistic frame of mind. There was so much to process in this movie that I am not going to try to quote 50 lines, but I must make mention of: River's escape from the asylum; River going berserk in the pub; and River saving the crew. She was magnificent. Know what's even more awesome??? Watch her in slo-mo. Downright sexy. Simon, the doctor, telling River: "It's OK to leave them to die." Mal's response: "If anything happens to your sister, I'll be very upset - very; there may be tears." Mr. Universe married a bot - and proud of it! Wash: I am a leaf on the wind. Watch me fly." to Malcolm: You know what your sin is? Malcolm: I'm a fan of all seven. Ending: A piece flies off the ship and we hear Malcoln's voice, "What was that?" It's worth watching several times. I'm going to watch River fighting the Reavers again. P.S. The "man with no name" had tears in his eyes while he listened to the broadcast. P.P.S. According to the credits, I was spelling Book's name correctly, and y'all taught me to spell it incorrectly, but you are forgiven.
