Don't know why it took me so long to find online, but here is the first trailer that was released for Luhrman's Gatsby:

I have to say Leonardo dicaprio is the perfect choice for Gatsby its something he has about him that makes him the perfect fit

I am leaving now to see the movie.
My knee-jerk questions prior to seeing it:
Does the movie need to be over 2 hours long?
Why is the music "a little off"? Taking ear plugs with me.
Did the movie do the book justice?
Should we have skipped the book and waited for the movie?

It's really an amazing movie Leonardo dicaprio does a wonderful portrayal of gatsby one of his lines stayed with me.. And I just let myself go... I'm literally longing to see it again
Two hours will go by in a flash The music was off for me because there was rap and more modern day music The movie did a superb job it didn't take from the book at all I think there were parts in the movie that opened the book up for me it's one thing to read something and imagine it but to see all the grandeur accurately portrayed its a whole diff experience
And no I don't think we should have waited on the movie the book and the movie are two entirely different experiences I fell in love with the book and gatsbys character because of all he really symbolizes which I think plenty of those things are innate within all of us reading the book has always been a special journey for me but watching the movie brings the already vivid character of gatsby to an eye opening new level I felt gatsbys ache his hope his desire for things he knew were unobtainable I felt his desperate clinging to that green light I knew gatsby on a new extraordinary level

DiCaprio was perfect. His emotions were real to me - joy, nervousness, pride, anger and most of all, his adoration of the one who got away. Although we know the story, it was still heart wrenching to go through the tragedy with him. Everyone played their roles very well and I think Tobey Maguire was an excellent narrator. The music The cacophony created by a blend of rap, period and jazz was extremely distracting and added nothing to my enjoyment of the movie. Jay-Z gets 2 demerits for that. The rap music really had no place in the movie. I do not understand why it was there - perhaps his ego? Btw, I did use the ear plugs, but the music later in the movie was very nice. You might recall I said the book was depressing to me. That is not a reflection on the story. It is just difficult for me to enjoy tragedies; I want a fairy tale happy ending. Intrepid Book Club leader, I enjoyed your responses to my questions.

I think the song you are referring to is Lana del rey young and beautiful
And i agree this song is great it goes well with the story and has literally become the soundtrack I play in my head when recalling the movie I must see this movie again and again and again

I too enjoyed your responses I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Also I understand wanting a fairy tale ending I too always want that for gatsby whenever I read the book or watch the movie i always want to yell no gatsby don't fall for it and at the end don't take gatsby!!!!!! Lol but then I would look like a crazy person if i actually yelled that in the theater lol

If you yelled that, I think people would laugh - with you, not at you - because they would feel the same way.
I think Gatsby's expression will haunt me for quite a while. He was tragically hopeful Daisy would call, but in his heart, he had to know it was futile.
Thank you for the information on the song.

Wouldn't it be amazing if I had stood up and yelled that and someone else got up and yelled it too! Lol I can dream!
I don't think gatsby doubted she would call not at all because that's the difference between us and gatsby we would have known at least suspected she wouldn't call but not gatsby he had that immortal hope that knew nothing of limits he'd believed daisy was still within his reach that she simply needed time or more convincing gatsby believed in her or his dream for his life whichever it was had a strong hold over him. In that final close up on gatsbys face of his eyes you could see that hope lingering on flashing out of those eyes like the everlasting green light and that's why he whispered her name it was his final mortal call to her I believe that hope that lived in gatsby is indistructable that's why he whispered her name at the last to show us that even though gatsby died his hope lived on

Ooh, you have excellent recall. I remember now that when Gatsby heard the telephone ring near the pool, he was sure it was his love. He had never stopped believing.
He had achieved so much through a strong desire and willpower that to fail at that moment was inconceivable.
But people are fickle and unpredictable.

Indeed and poor gatsby was at the mercy of such fickle people
And so I will do here what I could not in the theatre
GATSBY! DON'T FALL FOR IT DON'T BELIEVE HER!!! and lastly
!DON'T TAKE GATSBY!
I wonder if that automatic cry within each of us is the desperate cry for life not to take the gatsby (hope) out of us....

I know a lot of people who have hope in their hearts like Gatsby had. But few have the vision that Gatsby had. When he saw an opportunity, he grabbed it and steered it toward his cherished goal. He did not let the law or disappointment (failure to receive an expected inheritance) stand in his way. When we want something very much, we should think like Gatsby. Blast through the roadblocks.

I spotted one difference though from the novel and the movie. In the book Daisy's daughter is with Gatsby but in the movie it is supposed to be Tom's child. I don't know why they decided to change it up but overall it was very well made movie, the modern music was a bit off because it didn't match the eras but I did love the costume and portrayals by the actors, I was very impressed with it.
