Stephen kings the stand is our next book club novel
it is the story of the world after much of the population has been destroyed. The tale of the survivors and how they are guided by one of two characters one representing good the other representing evil where ultimately in the end there is a final battle between both forces

I will order mine from the library. Should be here in a couple of days.
NOTE: There are two versions of this book. The original release was 800-something pages. The unabridged edition has 1152 pages. Don't know if it's this way with other library systems, but mine has completely done away with the shorter version, and only carries the longer one, so that's likely the edition I'll be reading from

Yes, I think it will be good to get back to it. And I think that in Mother Abagail you'll find a similar spiritual leader, although on a grander scale, to Owen Meany.
There's also a televised mini-series we can watch afterwards.
P.S. My choice for the next read was not chosen in the poll, but I find that the experience of reading together is much more important than the selection itself, and I would not trade that for the world. I am overjoyed to be a part of the experience again.
I would like to highly recommend that those participating in the synchro-watch of the mini-series afterwards also read the book beforehand. It's infinitely better that way.

After an 1152 page book it will seem short. ![]() Plus, it has one of the best opening scenes ever. I won't spoil it here, though. |

I have a few reasons: 1. I am not a huge fan of Stephen King 2. I don't know what the story is about 3. I don't have a copy of it and not sure if I would be able to get it in time 4. I really need to catch up on the previous book club readings: The Help and A prayer for Owen 5. I need a break from the book club for a little bit |
