The U.S. is represented by members from most of the states (not mine) and here is a place to chat about your favorite participants.

The U.S. is off to a slow start. If they do not do better than this, I am going to be even more disappointed that I am missing some of my favorite TV shows.

Olympics 2014: Team figure skating men's short program and pairs results
U.S. skater Jeremy Abbott wasn't the favorite to finish first, but he was expected to do fairly well. That's not what happened. He earned the lowest score he's received in competition in years after a fall and then turning a couple triple jumps into a double and a single.
Abbott's poor showing leaves the U.S. in seventh place in the team competition so far, but there are still seven events left before Sunday's medal ceremony. The pairs short program is up next, we'll update the post with the results as soon as the pairs have skated.
Final standings, men's short program:
Yuzuru Hanyu, Japan, 97.98 Yevgeny Plushenko, Russian Federation, 91.39 Patrick Chan, Canada, 89.71 Han Yan, China, 85.52 Florent Amodio, France, 79.93 Peter Liebers, Germany, 79.61 Jeremy Abbott, U.S., 65.65 Yakov Godorozha, Ukraine, 60.51 Matthew Parr, Great Britain, 57.40 Paul Bonifacio Parkinson, Italy, 53.94
UPDATE: The pairs short program portion is concluded (full results below). The U.S. pair of Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir skated well, though Castelli put her hand down on the side-by-side triple salchows and that was a sizable deduction.
The final standings for the pairs:
Russia, Tatyana Volosozhar and Maksim Trankov, 83.79 Canada, Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford 73.10 China, Cheng Peng and Hao Zhang, 71.01 Italy, Stefania Berton and Ondrej Hotark, 70.31 U.S., Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir, 64.25 Germany, Maylin and Daniel Wendy (married), 60.82 France, Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres, 57.45 Japan, Narumi Takahashi and Ryuichi Kihara, 46.56 Ukraine, Julia Lavrentieva and Yuri Rudyk, 46.34 Great Britain, Stacey Kemp and David King, 44.70
After two events, the U.S. is tied for fifth with 10 points. The team had hoped for a better skate from Abbott, which could have possibly earned the U.S. a couple more points, though he isn't really a strong enough skater to have jumped into the Top 3.
The team standings:
Russian Federation, 19 points Canada, 17 points China, 15 points Japan, 13 points Germany, 10 points France, 10 points U.S., 10 points Italy, 8 points Ukraine, 5 points Great Britain, 3 points

Jeff you are welcome. I watched the opening ceremony when the USA team walked in. I felt very proud to see 230 USA athletes march into the Russian arena. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using proboards

I like how the DirectTV has the red dot on their remote that lets you see the upcoming Olympic event the time your favorite sport will be airing on what channel it is a very nice feature it does seem to only work on channel 356 (Msnbc) for the Olympics.
The rest of the NBC sports channels the red dot just shows the regular scheduled sports without the Olympic.
The red dot besides showing the time and channel of a particular sport it also lets you see the medal count, it is a good way to keep up with the Olympics good job NBC and DirectTV.
As much as I like the Winter Olympics I don't want to watch the figure staking I want to see Men's Hockey, Curling, Luge, Biathlon, Bobsled, speed skating and a few other events.
Way too many commercial's I will just have to record the sport that I want to watch and skip through the commercials.
I did like the opening ceremonies.

The USA won a Gold Medal!Gold: Sage Kotsenburg, USA, 93.50Silver: Staale Sandbech, Norway, 91.75 Bronze: Mark McMorris, Canada, 88.75 American snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg scored a 93.50 on the first of two runs in the men's slopestyle final, which turned out to be good enough for the first gold medal of the 2014 Winter Games. Kostenburg, 20, took Rosa Khutor Extreme Park by storm with his opening run and held on for the surprising win. Although Mark McMorris finished with the bronze, his Canadian compatriot Max Parrot was a big favorite to take home the top prize and came up well short.

Watching some of the ice skating and there is some bias going on like a girl who made mistakes and fell scored higher than the American who was clearly better.

I guess they really hated the choice of song Honestly I love Pink Floyd . but w/e she qualified so now I hope Ashley can kill it in her long program. and I get it she was a little cocky but I like that some of these skaters have sticks up their rears I swear. I don't mine another skater winning if they did well but japan got second and fell on her rear. I loved the woman moguls though those girls are amazing as someone who has done mogals a few times I know they are hard as heck and tear up the knees. there is some anti American stuff going on and its sad to see that.

ashley I was watching when the woman fell and she fell really hard so I expected her to get low scores. I think they sometimes judge based on what they know a skater is capable of rather than how well they actually did. I agree about the anti-American bias and that caused me to lose interest in the Olympics over the years. Some of the sports are scored on measurable statistics instead of being subjective and I hope we do well on those. I enjoyed the snowboarding, probably because I watched my boys skateboard and I can appreciate the skill involved. The Wii Fit has a balance exercise in which we need to snowboard and ski jump. It took me many tries to get good at the ski jump on the Wii Fit and I found myself being very focused on how the skiers were positioning their feet and bodies just prior to and during the jumps. Then I laughed because I do not plan to ever put on a pair of skis.

Ive never tried boarding honestly it bothers me when I go skiing and some punk goes right in front on me and sits go off to the side don't sit right at the top in everyone ways. I understand that it is a difficult sport but something about that bro I don't give a frack attitude is a turn off. Ill take Bodie miller anyway(even though sadly he could not place.its nice when its a race so its not debatable you know its a time.

Loading and unloading the chair in "mixed" company is the worst. Especially at 8am when the "mixed" company proudly sports an open can of beer while boarding the chair. And when they get off the chair, if they don't trip you into oblivion during the standup process they immediately sit right down in front of you. Not that I am stereotyping. . .certainly I am not. Just a bad mix.

People need to be more aware of people around them. like don't stop right at the top or bottom. Take the head phones from your ears and listen you can hear people coming up behind you. and giving little kids poles is a huge mistake they will trip them self's they will trip you I am all for teaching a kid but know their limits they don't need to bring a newbie on a half pipe or jump or Mogles. im not the best but I can do a bit of the sport and competed in a few races. im far from Olympic but I get the sport. Keep the kids on the blues teach them to turn so they don't run into people I always hate when parents yell at you for knocking a kid over when its the parents fault and the kid ran into you.

ashley That sounds like a nightmare, especially when kids are involved. I was under the assumption slopes were divided based on skill level, but I guess some are not. I hope you still enjoy the sport.
