I am confused by that because there was no back story about that.

I agree. I do not think they spent two minutes talking about Joan's credentials as a P.I.

Strangely, I chose this over sitcoms and I was not disappointed. Still too much Kitty for my taste but Sherlock and Watson are back to doing things the way they used to and there were plenty of laughs, especially from Watson thinking Sherlock's behavior was odd. And then there was the comment "The cleaner has been cleaned."
Watson almost never smiles when she is with Sherlock. I suppose part of that is the way he doesn't seem to respect her. Now men would probably not have a problem with that and would prefer for Watson not to stand up for herself and be independent, and women probably feel the opposite.
Anyway, I'm glad Sherlock "volunteered" his services because I just can't see Watson solving a case the way he did. Or at least it wouldn't be as entertaining.
I noticed this was PG unlike so many of them lately. Although the talk of what they did with bodies was kind of unsettling.

Wow...200 outfits during 24 episodes. I am going to try to remember to count the number of different outfits Joan wears in the next episode. I will probably forget to count them, but I will try to remember. This was the best episode of this season. Sherlock and Joan are acting the way they did before Sherlock went to London. Joan was working on a missing person’s case and Sherlock was bored so he invited himself to work on the case with Joan. She did not ask for or appreciate his uninvited assistance. I was amused at the autocratic manner in which Sherlock dictated which parts of the case each of them would work. Joan finally had enough of that and told Sherlock he was either working the case or he was not and she told him to check the laptop. After Joan did a favor for an ex (Chris) whom she dated for two years, Sherlock gave Joan an extensive psychoanalysis of how she is attracted to inappropriate partners (like his brother Mycroft) or she sabotages traditional relationships. He called Joan a “romantic terrorist”. She did not appreciate his help. COTW: I think the case was interesting and I enjoyed the way Sherlock made quick, almost instant, analysis of each situation even though it was Joan’s case. The client, Kim, asked Joan to find out what happened to her sister, Jessica, who disappeared five years ago. An FBI agent, Blake Tanner, believed there was a serial killer because they detected the odor of nutmeg at six different murder scenes. Shortly after meeting Agent Tanner, Sherlock considered him a fool and a fraud. Sherlock was quite certain there was no serial killer involved but he was intrigued about the odor of nutmeg. He told Joan he would prove Tanner a fraud and also solve the riddle of the nutmeg. Sherlock asked Ms. Hudson to listen to Police chatter for any mention of nutmeg. Then Sherlock and Joan went to a new crime scene and a guy nicknamed “The Nose” sniffed out what ingredients were there in addition to the nutmeg. That led Sherlock to the conclusion that the connection between the murders was the person who was cleaning up the crime scenes. Brilliant! I had a big laugh when Sherlock’s plan landed him in jail. He had told Joan that while she did boring investigative work of going through a bunch of files, he would stage a crime scene (using Kitty) and post an ad on the Dark Net for a cleaner. It backfired because the “cleaners” turned out to be undercover agents who locked Sherlock up. The Captain was able to spring him though. Kitty noticed a detail in a photograph that led Sherlock to a person who gave them the information they needed. Sherlock was very pleased with Kitty and told her that she did excellent work.

I forgot that Kitty's dead body was one of the funny things about the episode. Not because I wished it were true but simply because it was funny.
I hate she got her hair in that "blood" but it had to be realistic.

This week I haven't seen it but I'm hoping it's a rerun.
I'm nearly caught up as fewer new episodes have aired.

During a meeting, a member of the group approached Sherlock and said that a website for recovering addicts sounded like it was run by him. I understand why Sherlock was unhappy about the anonymity group member quoting him on the internet. The fact that another member recognized Sherlock was the one being quoted shows that it was not as anonymous as the poster thought. Sherlock wanted to be able to relax and say whatever he felt and that none of it would be repeated. The man violated that promise and Sherlock was right to tell him to remove the site.
It seemed to me that I saw more of Kitty than Joan and I am not happy with that. I want to see more of Joan than Kitty even though Kitty does seem to be very good at finding information.
COTW:
When a police officer was shot while sitting in his patrol car, Sherlock was diligent in following the clues even though he knew the Police Department might not like the conclusion. At first, the most interesting clue was that the killed officer was not carrying a real gun. That was strange and it seemed like another officer might have set him up.
It was surprising to learn that the killed officer was the one who switched the real guns with fake ones because he needed to fund his drug addiction. That has to be one of the most awful ways to fund an addiction that I have ever heard of because he endangered the lives of thirty plus officers.
When a second police officer was killed, suspicion fell on him because of what the first officer had done. Sherlock was getting frustrated because he knew a piece of the puzzle was missing and the answer came to him, but it came too late to prevent a horrible crime. In spite of that, he persevered and led the police to the perpetrator. The scene where the perp exited the building was a wake-up call for the criminal.

This week's episode had cops living in fear of being shot. That was bad enough but not realistic. Not something to really be concerned about. Until this morning when I heard the news on the radio.
I liked the storyline where Sherlock is trying to find out why his quotes from those anonymous meetings are showing up. With Watson I'm just not interested in her life outside of investigations. It's different with Sherlock.
I also want to see more of Watson and less of Kitty. I hadn't noticed Kitty was on more than Watson, only that Kitty is on too much.

The promos for the next episodes focused entirely on Sherlock and Joan. I am looking forward to that.

In answer to Jeff question about why Kitty was added to the show, "Kitty came about because Rob was rereading the original Sherlock Holmes story where she's introduced," fellow executive producer John Polson told TV Fanatic. "We really wanted to introduce a third wheel, if you will, into this relationship and see what happened, especially given what happened at the end of [season] two where there was clearly a separation there. So it's really doing our best to come up with the next story and something that works." The producer also said he wanted to introduce a character that would interrupt any chance of a romantic relationship between Joan and Sherlock. That is why Joan has agreed to help Sherlock nurture Kitty, and "nothing kills romance like parenthood". It seems that 99% of the fans like the way it was in season one though.

I agree I liked from how it was in season 1, this season to me sucks like it is being rushed so-to-speak.
