"Designated Survivor" was really good tonight. There are two plot twists that lay the groundwork for some drama and a major fallout. It was, but there seems to be less of the type of drama that was making it so enjoyable. I still look forward to finding out more about the hidden room. It was not necessarily correct that Room 105 would be between 104 and 106. After all, in the nursing home where I visit, the man I go to see is in Room 102 and his wife is in Room 104. The odd-numbered rooms are across the hall. But finding out about their son could be interesting. I liked how the President cared so much about the soldiers (why are they "Navy" seals if they're on land?) and how he handled it after the one man died.

KyleEl You ponder things, like the room number, that I would not think about. I do believe Congressman MacLeish hid in that room so that he would survive the blast. I wonder if he will accept the position of Vice President and try to have the President assassinated. I changed my mind about Aaron. I now think he is a politician at heart and attaches himself to the most powerful person. He does not seem to be working “against” President Kirkman and he did not do what the General wanted.

1.06 The Interrogation 11-9-16
A shooting at the White House during a governors' summit throws President Kirkman's plans to elect a new Congress into turmoil; Agent Hannah makes a shocking discovery in her investigation of the capitol bombing.
President Kirkman gave a great pep talk to the governors who accepted his invitation to discuss appointment of congress members. Then gunfire erupted and everyone scattered before anything was accomplished. Although Mike was off duty, he returned when he heard the gunfire. He shot the perpetrator, but he was wounded and taken to the hospital. Mike is not on much, but he is one of my favorites because of the respect he has always shown Kirkman.
When the governors reconvened, I was surprised they wanted to subject Kirkman to an interrogation, which is something a President is not expected to do. They sounded like they were attacking him rather than questioning him. I was as shocked as the governors when Kirkman stood up and walked out of the meeting.
Agent Wells and her boss made the prisoner admit he did not plan the bombing of the capitol and he gave them a name they do not recognize. Their dilemma is they need to warn the president before he appoints Peter McLeish as Vice President.
Mrs. Kirkman is disappointed in her husband because she does not agree with the concession he made to get the governors’ cooperation, but she still supports him.
Seth has done an excellent job as Press Secretary, but a member of the press who flirted with him blindsided him at the end of the episode. She asked him for a comment regarding Leo not being Tom’s son. I know Aaron is aware, but I do not remember if Seth knew. He looked shocked when she asked him.
It is an exciting episode.

The latest episode was more exciting than I was expecting in light of the country seeming to return to normal. With the governors questioning Kirkman's legitimacy, it's getting good again.
They've got the wrong man, but it was interesting how they handled it. I was worried they were going to subject him to torture, but it seems clear he didn't do it.

1.07 The Traitor 11-16-16
An American track-and-field coach's trip to Russia forces Kirkman into a hostage exchange involving the CIA and the Russian government; Agent Wells and Deputy Director Atwood's investigation uncovers dangerous information.

Designated Survivor was really good even though I do not like what is happening to Deputy Director Atwood. I think he is being set up to look like he is a traitor. I hope Hannah can help him.
I like the way Kirkman handles multiple important issues even though the prisoner exchange blindsided him. There was no way for him to know Coach Weston could not be trusted. He also held off on naming MacLeish as Vice President.
Alex should have told Tom sooner that Jeffrey was talking about Leo being his son. Several people knew that before Tom became aware. When Tom entered the room to say good night to Leo, Leo barely acknowledged him and immediately put his headphones back on before his father had a chance to turn around. That was dismissive and it irked me. When Tom did not leave, Leo could tell something was wrong so he did respond “I love you too.”
I like the fact Aaron is no longer shutting Emily out when they hold important discussions with Tom.

Leo's behavior seemed normal to me.
Where's Penny?
Alex is gorgeous.
I don't like what's happening to Atwood. I can't believe how little that woman cares about his family.
I was really hoping Coach Weston could be rescued but I didn't like what actually happened.

There are comments on threads like our favorite characters, but I did not move them because they belong there.
Penny is on the cast list, but we no longer see her. Leo did such a poor job of keeping her away from the television, they must be keeping her in an area so secluded, we cannot catch a glimpse of her.

I'm not sure but I think Kiefer Sutherland is on a special report about the real designated survivor in the time slot this week. Thanks. I will set it to record. 20/20 "The Real Designated Survivor" S39, E13 (11-23-16)
Emergency plans in the event that the presidential line of succession is threatened; real-life designated survivors, Dan Glickman and Gale Norton; actors Kiefer Sutherland and Kal Penn; the Smolensk air disaster; the Reagan assassination attempt.

The 20/20 episode was excellent and Elizabeth Vargas was an excellent host. I did not know her when she asked Kirkman on the show about being fired the morning of the explosion.
It shocked me that a reporter revealed the location of the bunker that was located in Virginia.
I stated before that Seth does an excellent job, and it is nice to know Kal Penn has real-life experience at the White House.

This was an excellent episode although there were two things I did not like much. Fans of “Breaking Bad” are familiar with “ricin” because it was featured on the show as a dangerous substance. The agencies worked together and moved quickly to investigate the threat, and I am glad Kirkman went ahead with the election.
Leo has been selfish and difficult from the beginning of the show and when Tom told him how much he loved him, Leo did not respond. That had to hurt. Yes, Leo relented later and said the right things, but I still do not like him.
I knew Dep. Dir. Atwood was being set up, but I hoped he would not give in to the demands. Let’s keep in mind, officials encourage people to do the right thing and promise to protect them. But when it was Atwood’s family in jeopardy, he gave in. Now, I am unsure how brave Agent Wells will be.
If Seth hooks up with Lisa after her betrayal, I will not respect him.
I like Secret Service Agent Mike and I am glad he is back.

I'm glad Kirkman went ahead too.
I too like Mike and am glad he is back, and I should probably replace Penny on my list of three favorite characters.
I'm very concerned about Atwell but maybe they can find something out in the investigation. Since he was second in command and had to take over after his boss was killed, that brings up the question who is in charge now.
I'm actually feeling better about Leo and I'm glad his situation was handled the way it was.

I am glad the DNA test removed the family's anxiety, but I do not understand why it was the media's business in the first place though. I do not care who the biological father is for the children of the president or his cabinet members.

I enjoyed “The Blueprint” and the character interactions. Let’s see if I can list the interactions in case their names come up again after the break. Gabriel Thompson leaked classified documents on all of the former president’s cabinet, except for Kirkman. He gave Kirkman a flash drive that included file #12-80C which relates to the episode title. Sen. Hamilton was angry that a memo stating he is a lecherous old man was leaked and he wanted Kirkman to fire Advisor Emily Rhodes because she wrote it. Hamilton wanted Emily gone by the end of the day, but Kirkman refused to let Hamilton push him. I like the strength of character Kirkman demonstrates in all of his decisions, and, of course, Hamilton is a lecherous old man. In addition to dealing with the info leak and investigating why Attwood would commit treason, Kirkman had to decide who he could really trust. He trusted the person I hoped he would, Mike Ritter. Mike has training in several areas and is qualified to do more than guard the President’s body. I am glad Agent Wells continued to investigate McLeish’s connection to the bombing in spite of danger to herself. The FBI information tech, Chuck, agreed to help her although he was jeopardizing his career. His keen investigative skills helped them to uncover info that Catalan and McLeish were in the same platoon. Wells also received valuable information from CIA agent Tim Beck that showed McLeish was a war criminal instead of a war hero. While Congresswoman Hookstraten was waiting for Wells, Wells was involved in an auto accident. I could not tell if it was truly an accident or intentional. I am not “shipping” Aaron with Emily. There is one more episode before the break.

Interesting that the tech is named "Chuck", although "Chuck" was an asset.
I figured Hamilton really was a dirty old man, but I hoped Kirkman would stand up to him.
I couldn't believe it when I heard Gabriel was leaving the embassy to talk to the president. He knew he would get sent away!
Interesting research Wells is doing. I hated that she got in that accident but with an air bag, maybe she'll be all right.

It shocked me that a reporter revealed the location of the bunker that was located in Virginia. I stated before that Seth does an excellent job, and it is nice to know Kal Penn has real-life experience at the White House. For reasons mentioned on the Vent Thread, I did not record this. I set the TiVo connected to an antenna to record a show at the same time, but I forgot to select the channel. I don't have listings so that's all I can do. I did have an ABC station in my listings I could have recorded the show from, but it would have been like modern art with little or no sound. So I started trying to watch yesterday. When I got to the first commercial break, the computer froze. When I restarted, it made me watch even more commercials. Which would have been fine except the computer quit on me again. And again. A different computer might work. Anyway, all I've seen so far is the part where Kiefer Sutherland is interviewed and they talk about the show. Next time I go to that library I might be able to get a better computer. The one I wanted was in the sun.

Very exciting episode. Hannah got there just in time, but did she actually prevent anything from happening? I couldn't believe she recovered so fast from an injury that looked like it required a hospital to treat. And she didn't remember the classified information! But once she was with Chuck, it was pretty amazing what she accomplished.
Looks like Kirkman will be calling on that general for help. Or should be.
There's no way that much of the capitol was ready! A lot of work had been done on the dome. You can do anything with CGI.

I was surprised the Capitol looked so good for the ceremony.
Hannah had to be in pain, but determination made her ignore the pain. Hannah and Chuck made an excellent team and uncovered important information. Although Chuck was put on suspension for what he did for Hannah, he helped Hannah track down Charles Langdon who was Richmond's Chief of Staff. He has information, but he is running for his life. Hannah is a true patriot, and tracked the assassin even though her life was in danger from several sources.
Later, Emily was shocked that Langdon's Deputy, Aaron Shore, was the one who made a suspicious call to the Pentagon. Emily lied to Aaron about why Kirkman wanted to talk to her alone and Aaron knows she lied. She needs to be careful because he is already suspicious. I find it hard to believe that Aaron was part of a conspiracy to kill all of those people, but he could have been a pawn.
I watched the previews that followed the episode and they showed several people who are safe, including Aaron, Emily, Mike Ritter, Seth, and Hannah. Alex was standing close enough to Tom and could have been hit.

I saw the "20/20" episode at last. There's one computer at that library that I know works with videos. Even that one didn't work perfectly but I got through it. It even restarted without my having to watch commercials the one time it quit.
What if Air Force one is shot down? That happened in the movie I saw over the weekend with Samuel L. Jackson as the President and Victor Garber as the veep. The President ejected and his Secret Service head parachuted out.
