Riverdale is so much better than I anticipated, and this second season continues to hold my attention.
All of the characters are interesting, and some of them are outstanding.
Cheryl is perfect in her "Whatever happened to Baby Jane?" role.
Archie is great as the son who will protect his family.
I always enjoy Veronica's mercurial personality. She is warm and caring with her friends; then she is as cold as ice around her family.
Jughead is still one of my favorites and I now enjoy seeing him and Betty together. Their friendship was a big surprise to me.
There is a killer on the loose, and I am beginning to think Archie might be the catalyst for the murders.

Chapter Fifteen: Nighthawks
I really enjoy the drama in Riverdale. Archie is trying to protect his family from the man who shot his father and he bought a gun. He believed maybe Ms. Grundy’s ex-husband killed her and shot his father, but the sheriff said Grundy’s ex-husband had an air-tight alibi. Archie had given her the cello that was used to strangle her. At the end, it looked like it was Reggie who was shot and killed on lover’s lane.
Pop’s diner had “killer diner” painted on the exterior and people stopped coming after the shooting. Betty was determined to save the diner and blackmailed Cheryl into helping. She succeeded in arranging for a huge crowd to come to the re-opening and it seemed like a positive beginning. Veronica’s parents showed up and offered to make a charitable donation to the diner. That seemed nice until we learned they actually bought the diner and let Pop stay on as manager.
Betty’s mom came and snapped as many incriminating pictures as she could so she can write a scathing article. She smugly told Betty about the drug activity on the lot and that Hiram Lodge's donation to Pop was not charitable.
Betty also blackmailed Cheryl into testifying on behalf of Reggie’s father so he will not spend 20 years in jail. Cheryl did that and hopefully it will work.

The Watcher in the Woods
Riverdale is one of the most interesting dramas that I watch. The only character who does not have a dark side is Fred, Archie’s father. But he was targeted first by the Black Hood serial killer because he is a sinner. The Black Hood called him an adulterer.
Ms. Grundy was targeted because she is a lot of things, including child predator.
Moose and his friend were targeted because of their homosexuality.
Archie formed a watch group to keep an eye on the area near Riverdale High to prevent the Hood from attacking more people. He named the group The Red Circle. There were still some close calls.
Kevin has been prowling the woods because it is popular for quickie encounters even though the Hood targeted that area. Betty was afraid for his safety and snitched to his father. Now, Kevin is not speaking to Betty.
After Jughead got jumped by a gang called the Ghoulies at Southside High, he decided to sit with the Serpents even though he preferred to be a loner.
There is a lot more happening, but that is enough for now. ***
The Red Circle is a nod to the Archie comics and to the anti-hero vigilante called The Black Hood.

I saw an episode summary that said Archie's father had been shot. Or shot someone. I can't avoid these but at least I'm prepared. I'm still waiting for episode 10 and the remaining episodes are stacked up waiting to go.

S2.E4 Chapter Seventeen: The Town That Dreaded Sundown
After talking with Veronica’s father, Archie went on the offensive against the Black Hood. His team members wore hoods, but Archie did not wear a mask when he spoke on the video and threatened the man. The principal threatened to suspend Archie and the football team if he did not retract the video. The team members resigned from the Red Circle.
Veronica is a loyal girlfriend and she presented the students with fashionable T-shirts with a large red circle. At Doiley’s suggestion, Archie purchased protective gear and boldly went to the south side. He tagged walls with large red circles. Some of the Serpents approached him. When one of them pulled a knife, Archie threatened them with his gun, and they ran away. The principal barred Archie from school property, and his father is very upset with him.
Betty and Jughead’s friend from Southside seem to be in competition for his attention.
Betty received a letter and puzzle from the Black Hood. She did not show the letter to her mother, but she showed her the puzzle which the Black Hood said only Betty would be able to solve. Her mother published the puzzle.
This is all very interesting to me and next week will shed more light on why the Black Hood is targeting certain people.

Chapter Eighteen: When a Stranger Calls
Riverdale was exciting. The Black Hood is manipulating Betty into doing things she does not want to do. When she asked him if she would recognize him without the hood, he said “yes”. I do not have a clue who it is, but he is dangerous.
The boys from the south side and Archie’s football players had a big fight, but it turned ugly when one of the boys pulled a knife and cut Archie’s friend. Veronica then broke up the fight.
Jughead survived the initiation to become a full member of the Serpents. They were not gentle.
Veronica was thrilled that one of her out-of-state friends, Nick St. Clair, was coming to visit, but after a party in his hotel room, he tried to force himself on her. Later, he acted contrite and apologized at the Lodges’ party for investors. He then roofied Cheryl’s drink and was in the process of raping her when Veronica and the Pussycats became suspicious and intervened. They beat him up and stomped him.
The Black Hood was angry with Betty and insisted she give him a name of someone to be executed; she gave him Nick’s name.

2.06 Chapter Nineteen: Death Proof
Several important things happened. During a meeting between the mayor and the families involved in the Nick St. Clair incident, the mayor learned that Josie had also taken jingle jangle. She went into a rage and sent police to raid Southside High. Archie rushed there to keep Jughead out of trouble.
Betty decided to no longer be controlled by the Black Hood. She told some of her friends about him and why she had been mean to them. The Black Hood told Betty to get the name of the leader who was selling jingle jangle to the teenagers. She asked her friends to help her get the information. Cheryl got the name from Mrs. Blossom and told Betty. Betty seemed surprised. She refused to tell the Black Hood who it was and taunted him that she would find him next.
The Ghoulies (drug dealers) want to expand their territory into Serpent territory. After several confrontations and a visit to F.P. in prison, they decided to settle the dispute via a street race. That seemed foolish to me, but it happens in a lot of movies I have seen. Betty and Archie frequently make personal decisions that affect everyone around them.
I am not revealing the juicy incidents.

Although I haven't watched any episodes yet, Archie and Veronica and two other cast members (probably Betty and the nasty redhead) presented last night on the American Music Awards. Archie had an accent.

I plan to watch the pilot but I am not familiar with the characters. I've seen three different versions of Sabrina, though I didn't get the opportunity to watch more than a few episodes of the last one. Two were animated and all were kid-friendly. The WB aired the one live-action version and it's why I'm here since I complained about the show and got my snail mail sent back with a message to go to the web site. One of the shows I watched this week was written by the man who did the voice of Sabrina's obnoxious black cat in the WB series.

Riverdale is outrageous. Cheryl’s mother has become a lady of the evening to supplement their non-existent income. Although Cheryl and Archie schemed to get Nick St. Clair to write a check, Mrs. Blossom is enjoying herself too much to stop being a courtesan.
Veronica’s parents have plans to tear down Southside High and use the land for development. The Mayor will receive a sizable donation to her campaign fund for closing the school.
Archie is working undercover for FBI Agent Adams who wants to get evidence that the Lodges are involved in various crimes. Mr. Lodge does not like Archie, but has to tolerate him because Veronica likes him.
Betty located her brother, Charles/Chic, who was given up for adoption. She later brought him home after he was attacked. He makes fantasy videos on the dark web and at Betty’s request, he has shown her how to do that too.
Jughead learned about the history of their town and led a protest during the Pickens Day celebration. Later, the Lodges and Sheriff saw the statue of Pickens had been decapitated. That will further divide the southside from the Riverdale folks.

The Wicked and the Divine
Archie does have a strong will and he refused to wear a wire to the poker game at which Hiram Lodge wanted him to help serve drinks, etc. The FBI agent will get him in serious trouble if Archie did not refuse. Veronica does not want Archie to be corrupted by involvement in her family business, but it was fortunate that Archie was at the poker game. He overheard men talking about killing Hiram and he passed the information to Hiram. Of course, Hiram eliminated the threat.
Veronica's extended family and friends attended her Christening. She sang a highly inappropriate song about money and greed. I think it was a message intended for Archie.
Betty, Betty, Betty, what can I say? Her decision to bring Chic home and champion him has led to chaos in their household. Her father was extremely upset and moved out. Strange men have shown up to talk to Chic and one of them was lying in a pool of blood in the foyer. Betty's mother was trying to wipe up the blood when Betty came home, and Chic was out of sight. I do not know who Chic's father is, but Mr. Cooper despises the boy.

Jack on "Will and Grace" mentioned wanting to watch this.
I got an email saying I can get Hulu free. I forget whether it's a full month or two weeks like the last time. I think Hulu has episode 10, the one I missed when everything went wrong with my recordings one night. Once I see it, I can see the rest. My main concern is seeing the maximum number of "Nashville " episodes possible.
