She
I enjoyed the episode (unlike some user reviews I unintentionally scrolled across). When Shaun said he cannot imagine what it is like to be something other than he is biologically, I related to that because I cannot imagine what it is like either. Shaun asked a lot of questions, and he finally started referring to the patient as a girl.
I like Shaun’s neighbor and he adds some levity to the series. When Kenny came into Shaun’s apartment uninvited, it was funny that Shaun picked up what appeared to be a one-inch screwdriver as a weapon. Kenny has flexible, but harmless, morals as demonstrated by splicing the cable so he could watch TV and not hesitating to help Shaun break into the swimming pool area. It was nice of him to give Shaun the free cable.
I enjoyed the competition between Dr. Melendez and Dr. Lim, but I did not enjoy the way Dr. Reznick tried to upstage Dr. Browne. Dr. Melendez clearly respects Dr. Browne and gave her excellent advice. Shaun and Jared work well as a team.
Dr. Glassman offered Shaun a ride and suggested dinner, but Shaun declined because Dr. Glassman had said he could not be Shaun's friend. It is still possible for them to have a caring relationship and Dr. Glassman needs to come up with a way to explain that to Shaun. I am optimistic.

I was surprised that Shaun said the things he did. But he eventually realized how he was supposed to treat the patient. Quinn can be a man's name because there was a "Jeopardy" contestant named Quin this week.
I was surprised Shaun said an antenna means a better signal than cable. I guess if you are close enough to the tower, it works. See my "Scorpion" comments. I'm glad the neighbor got Shaun cable but that's not really right.
I didn't think there should be a competition. Dr. Resnick seemed too interested in winning rather than caring about the patient. But she was quite convincing in some scenes, so maybe she really does care. On the other hand, she wanted to let the black person do the dirty work. Actually, I don't know whether that was it or not. She just didn't want to do that herself.
I agree about Dr. Glassman.

Maybe I caught the dialogue because of closed captioning. Kenny said the cable guy gave him a 2 for 1 deal, and he gave the second hookup to Shaun, so he did not do that dishonestly.
I think Resnick did not care about the patient unless it affected her record. She was worried about their team losing if the results made them look bad. Dr. Resnick was mimicking Dr. Browne's caring attitutde so she would look good. I am going to enjoy seeing Dr. Browne become assertive around Resnick.

I heard that but didn't know it was legal. It is legal in my state. I learned about it when my son-in-law and his sister shared the same service even though they live miles apart. The downside is if someone defaults on the bill, they both get cut off.

New problem. "The Good Girls" is on at the same time. There's no chance I won't watch either "Scorpion" or this show on Mondays, but this is just another show that I would want to see right away.

I was hoping the girl who couldn't be around other people would get what she wanted. And she was able to be with friends at the end of the episode.
Dr. Resnick was so hard on Shaun. Of course he could rent a cheap tux.
I didn't realize the first blonde girl, who danced with Dr. Glassman, was not Resnick. Then I saw a girl in a red dress. Maybe that was her. I thought Shaun was uncomfortable with all those people and that loud music. I would be. And then he went back and talked to people after seeing the girl with her friends.
That one resident was so much smarter than everyone else, but then he had been a cop and he knew what they needed to know about dealing with a prisoner.
When the prisoner did what he did, I thought they had come up with a solution for the boy who needed a liver. I'm surprised if he didn't do well with what seemed a perfect match that he could have been expected to do better with part of a liver, since the prisoner could not live without a liver. Also, they said he needed an O liver. Those would be the easiest to find, not the hardest. If he had been type AB that would have been a problem.

The Good Doctor has interesting stories that I really enjoy. The young patient was reluctant to accept an organ from a murderer, but his life was in imminent danger. The new surgical intern, Alex Park, was a police officer for 15 years and thought the prisoner was conning everyone. I was amused by the dramatic music that played as the prisoner was brought in. I agreed with Dr. Park and was shocked that the prisoner was sincere in his offer to help by donating his organ.
Shaun was working with Morgan Reznick on the team that was placing a girl’s heart inside her chest. I cannot guess when Morgan is being truthful, but I never agree with her and I do not trust her to ever do what is best for Shaun. However, I saw no harm in Shaun buying the top-of-the-line tuxedo. I was glad the lead surgeon questioned Morgan’s motives. I do not see where Shaun uses his autism as a crutch. He sometimes asks inappropriate questions and he does not like to be touched. That is not as unusual as they make it sound.
Shaun made an effort to communicate with people at the gala and he did appear awkward. It got better when Andrews joined the group and helped Shaun by keeping the conversation flowing in a positive manner.
They seem to be going in a direction where the other interns' suggestions are the best solutions. I enjoy seeing Shaun come up with amazing suggestions.

Pain
SEASON 1, EPISODE 16 • NEW 3/12/18, 10:00 PM ON WMARDT 2 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
When the team treats a patient who has to decide about getting a dangerous surgery that could change his life, the man asks Dr. Murphy what he would do if he had to make that same decision.

Pain
Both medical situations were interesting. A lady wanted to maintain her physical appearance through the use of cosmetic surgery in spite of the spread of infection. I kept expecting her husband to tell her it was not necessary, but he kept supporting her decisions. Shaun made an important observation on a scan that the other doctors missed.
I saw a documentary about people who are addicted to cosmetic surgery and the consensus was it stemmed from an issue with self-esteem.
The other case was about Melendez' first patient and the man was paralyzed from the chest down. He currently felt discomfort and what felt like pain in his leg. There was a chance they could do surgery and he would be able to walk again.
Shaun’s conversations with the patient in the wheelchair were interesting. I like Shaun not getting offended by the patient’s opinion that the first thing people see are his differences and that he probably did not immediately receive the respect most doctors automatically get. I like Shaun’s neighbor Kenny, but I think Shaun should be wary of him. Dr. Park was probably right that he is using Shaun.
Dr. Reznick smugly advised Dr. Unger that he was not a threat to her and now that he had lost the respect of the surgeons, he was not getting it back. She proved her point by giving Unger credit for things he did not do, and Dr. Andrews still placed Reznick as his 1st Assistant during the surgery. Unger looked at Reznick and said “You called it.”
Dr. Andrews is being mean to Jared so it is difficult for me to feel empathy for his procreation issues.
Dr. Brown’s mother wanted $2,500 and I could tell Claire was hurt even though she knew she should not trust her.

I was all set to watch "Scorpion" and it wasn't on. But I was able to watch this on the same night.
I don't understand why the woman didn't survive surgery. I know they had to make it exciting and we were probably supposed to think the man was the one in trouble. I didn't think her husband expected her to look good, but she was determined to keep her looks. The husband was Perry Mason's detective in movies that aired years after the original series.
I suppose those who say Kenny is using Shaun are right. When I first started communicating online with people, I was accused of using the other person. Maybe that's true, but it was the only way I could relate to most other people.
Reznick suggested Unger might be able to keep his job, but I thought it was clear he was out at the end of a certain time, and any help he could get in getting a new job would be appreciated.
The MRI of the paralyzed man looked like the weather radar where I live Monday night.
There was something I was supposed to remember about Claire and her mother but I don't remember it now. Claire didn't trust her.
Dr. Glassman was missing from the episode.

I suppose those who say Kenny is using Shaun are right. Dr. Park’s accusation is serious because he meant Kenny suckered Shaun out of $300 and is using Shaun’s naivete to take advantage of him. I think Dr. Park is right and soon Kenny will move himself into Shaun’s apartment rent free. I hope that does not happen, but he already takes liberties like installing a game system without asking. I interpreted Reznick as meaning there was not a snowball’s chance in hell Unger could keep his job. Funny

Smile
SEASON 1, EPISODE 17 • NEW 3/19/18, 10:00 PM ON WMARDT 2 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Dr. Shaun Murphy questions the need for an elective surgery that will allow his young patient to smile for the first time; Dr. Claire Brown and Dr. Morgan Reznick discover that their patient lied about her identity.

SmileShaun, please stop showing that weird smile; it’s creepy! We saw a genuine smile from Shaun later in a patient’s room. The identity theft patient and lying addict patient made Browne and Reznick’s job difficult. They could not refuse to treat either one. First time I agreed with Reznick – arrest the identity theft person. But it was a moot point since she did not survive. Reznick bluntly told the other patient she was a liar and an addict and offered to help her. I like it when Shaun bluntly talks about possible side effects of surgery and I would want to hear about all known consequences. When Shaun volunteers too much information in spite of being told numerous times to stop doing that, I think Dr. Andrews would like to slap him – hard! Dr. Park is very smart and I am glad he is a valuable member of the team. He was also correct in his assessment of Kenny. I am glad Shaun and Dr. Glassman are talking again, but Shaun set up an awkward matchmaking intro for Glassman. Being Jewish was not a winner, but an enthusiasm for cars gave Glassman Debbi a common interest. The final scene with Debbi was alarming. Reznick lied was deceptive about having a tough upbringing. I am trying to determine if the last scene with Browne and Reznick was significant in ways other than revealing Reznick’s background. Unger was accepted at the other hospital. I hope both Unger and Glassman do not leave the series.

There were a lot of weird smiles. Some were genuine.
Shaun does volunteer too much information. If I'm at home I no longer have to watch those cheerful commercials which do the same thing.
Dr. Park is too smart to be just a resident, but he is new at being a doctor so that's what he has to be.
When did Reznick lie about a tough upbringing?
I don't like that next week is the last one. I don't like what is happening to Glassman either.

Dr. Park is too smart to be just a resident, but he is new at being a doctor so that's what he has to be. I agree. Edited my post to "was deceptive" instead of "lied". I do not recall when she talked about her upbringing. I inferred it when Browne said to Reznick "Trust me, I get it, too soft, people will take advantage of you. With your badass upbringing, no one messes with you. Signs everywhere, you have way more street cred than…say, someone whose mom is a Johns Hopkins cardiologist.…” and Reznick responded, “Coming from privilege, zero respect." I agree. I am hoping Glassman will be in the next season.

I forgot to mention Kenny borrowed Shaun's TV and then wouldn't let him spend time with his friends. That's not right.

I am happy that The Good Doctor has the most viewers on FOX and is renewed for a 2nd season.
The college student had taken Molly, but the most interesting thing he did was participate in what is known as the “Tide Pod” challenge during a fraternity pledge. That was not the cause of his worsening condition. I was half convinced that Shaun’s missing scalpel wound up inside the patient but could not figure out how. Then later, Shaun mentioned it was a toy scalpel that his brother gave to him.
When Shaun replayed the procedure in his mind, he realized he made a mistake. He insisted on reporting it to Dr. Andrews. That was a cliffhanger because we do not know if Dr. Glassman will have to retire/resign.
Dr. Reznick was insistent about reporting Shaun even before it was determined he made a mistake. She was called the B word during the episode and also frequently on social media.
I like the way Dr. Melendez handled everything. He defended Shaun, and I approve of him telling Glassman he should either have not told Shaun he was dying or he should have informed Melendez. I cheered when he told the B “One day you are going to kill someone and I hope someone still believes in you when you do.”
I interpreted Shaun’s declaration to Glassman that he needed a friend as Shaun accepting that Kenny was not his friend. I hope they deal with the Kenny issue next season.

The show is on ABC. Fox has news in that slot.
I was hoping Shaun didn't make a mistake after all, but we ended up having to deal with all the controversies. I hope Dr. Glassman won't have to leave because of it.
We thought Dr. Glassman would be leaving anyway. Shaun was so insistent that he get a second opinion, and then a second test. He was right. There was a mistake and the tumor was worse than he thought. Or was it? Because of Shaun's mistake in surgery, he knew what needed to be done, and all of a sudden, Dr. Glassman's tumor is treatable.
I agree with everything said about Dr. Melendez.
I was pleased Shaun said Dr. Glassman was his friend after having said he didn't want that. I didn't think about Kenny.
Dr. Park sure was hard on the friend of the person who ate Tide Pods. But that's how he would have behaved as a cop.

That should have been posted to "9-1-1" instead of this show. I am also pleased Shaun wants to be friends with Glassman and it was sweet to see Shaun voluntarily hug him. Dr. Park was hard on the kid, but he only hurt his feelings. I enjoy Park's duality as the tough copy and concerned doctor. I noticed the other residents respect his medical opinions.
