What was I thinking?
I had plenty of other shows I could have watched.
No matter what, Jim always manages to look like he's appearing in GQ magazine.
I have to admit I liked seeing his determination to get people on the outside to help those stuck in the city.
And Harvey was good too.
The minute I saw that helicopter I wondered what's to stop the bad guys from shooting it down.
Penguin was saved by the incompetence of his employees.
Yes, I have to admit Penguin was entertaining.
I don't see how Selina is going to survive. She needs good care and she's not going to get that in that city.
I couldn't stand Barbara and Tabby but I feel better after what happened to Tabby.
The cars are getting older. Penguin had a '71 Cadillac and the GCPD had a '69 Chevy truck.

KyleEl Thanks for the review. I watched this when it aired, but could only think about how dark it was. I did enjoy it and I agree Penguin was entertaining. I like it when Penguin dresses nice. The fancy brace did not completely eliminate his limp, but he was happy with it. Then...Jim shot him in the leg and Penguin is really angry at Jim now. I did not know you did not like Tabitha. She is an interesting character, but Penguin reminded me of the cruel things she had done. After dealing with magic last season, I hope Bruce is very careful when he contacts someone to help Selina.

But Tabitha has been mainly evil. She's not like Penguin, who we can like in a different way. I forgot about the brace. He didn't seem to be any better. Magic may be Selina's only hope and that is a concern.

I haven't seen an episode in three weeks but Jim's ex was on "Match Game" and Alec Baldwin commented that in her movies and on TV she's surrounded by superheroes. But there are no superheroes on TV.

I needed to watch something because I was so close to 100 percent. This seemed like the least objectionable show to watch. Was I ever wrong.
This was the one where Ivy told Bruce about the cure for Selina and took care of those men who had been holding her prisoner.
And Jim and Harvey found themselves in a very dangerous situation when a child escaped from where they were building a tunnel and persuaded the cops to rescue the kids. And then clowns made things even worse. No matter what, Jim looks ready to argue in court. Regardless of how unpleasant the show is, it's always good to see them somehow get out of a jam.
Nygma showed up in the episode later than he should have. I'm not sure he even contributed anything.
What the episode needed was Penguin.

There was a lot of excitement because Gordon and Harvey kept going from one dangerous event to another. I was glad they did not spend much time with the cannibals. Barbara keeps showing up in Jim's life even though they act like enemies. Currently, Barbara demanded they combine their forces to kill Penguin. Barbara is angry and in mourning over the loss of Tabitha. Ivy's solution for Selena's injury had side effects. Two hours after eating the seed, Selena was able to walk. When Bruce hugged her, her pupils turned into cat eyes. We have to wait and see what it does to her personality. Nygma is unable to control his sleepwalk escapades. Someone killed a gang leader and left a note on the wall that incriminates Penguin. Although Nygma had questioned/tortured a gang member the night before, he cannot remember what happened, but he is sure Penguin did not kill the people. I am happy that Harvey is helping Jim keep the peace.

Penguin, Our Hero
It was amusing that Penguin’s staff lined up to sing praises about him, but when people from all areas and gangs flocked to the haven set up by Lucius, Gordon and Harvey, Penguin’s entire staff and his dog (Edward) defected to the Haven. Penguin was so upset he rallied gang leaders to join with him and attack the Haven to get their people back. That did not go well because a gang turned against him and locked him in a cell with Jim. That was followed by double and triple crosses
Selina and Bruce went to the Dark Place to track down Jeremiah. They had to fight some of the insane people in that area. Selina tackled the biggest bully and left 15 other killers for Bruce to fight. Selina was vicious and that caused Bruce to be concerned about her. Selina joined a group of Jeremiah’s acolytes and they had to play a version of Russian Roulette. That did not turn out well for Selina and Bruce.
There was a shocking event at the end of the episode.

5.04 Legend of the Dark Knight: Ruin Gordon and Penguin are forced to work together and alliances are shaken when Lucius, Nygma and Barbara all have different ideas of the culprit behind recent events at Haven. Meanwhile, Selina continues her quest for revenge against Jeremiah.During gun battle: “We are sitting ducks out here.” “And one Penguin.” Jim challenged Szasz, the sharpshooter, to a shootout. Jim’s ego is bigger than I thought. Because Jim told Harvey to give his gun to Szasz, Harvey told Jim to never tell him to do anything like that again. Jim puts Harvey into too many dangerous situations. Selina finally got revenge. Nygma has been playing an important role even though he did not know what his alter ego was going.

Every episode Jim and Harvey wind up facing a squad of trigger-happy goons. This time, a Delta Force buddy came to the rescue.
Some weird woman and her sons hooked Nygma to a chair and electrocuted him five times, but he outsmarted them.
It’s always a treat to see Penguin and Nygma square off. Nygma realized he was being controlled by someone. Penguin explained he asked Hugo Strange to stitch Nygma up after he was stabbed. Strange put a chip in Nygma’s head and it was done at the request of someone else.
I had a feeling the creepy Jeremiah was not gone forever.

5.06 Legend of the Dark Knight: 13 Stitches Gordon assembles an unlikely team to protect Gotham from Eduardo Dorrance and his Delta Force. Just as Lee Thompkins resurfaces, Barbara reveals shocking news that will change Gordon's life forever. Meanwhile, Selina and Penguin team up to outsmart fellow villain Magpie.
Eduardo, Jim’s Delta Force buddy, was untrustworthy and deadly. He explained why the government did not send help, but it seemed unscrupulous to me.
Jim, Nygma, Bruce, Alfred and Lucius teamed up to send information outside of Gotham to let the media know what Walker and Eduardo had done. Nygma was humorous with his bomb threat and riddle. Harvey surprisingly solved the riddle and that almost ruined the plan.
Penguin and Selina teamed up to get his jewel away from Magpie. I do not think Magpie will be stealing from Penguin again.
Lee is back after a three-month absence. She was being controlled the same as Nygma. Jim knew what to do to stop her attempt to kill him.
Darn it! Jeremiah did something bad to Alfred. He told Alfred Bruce would be along shortly and that today is the big day.

Ace Chemicals
Jeremiah used plastic surgery to make a man and woman look like Bruce’s parents. He was reenacting the final day of Bruce’s parents so that he (Jeremiah) could be part of the experience. Jeremiah destroyed Gotham Manor. When Jim and Lee searched for Alfred, they were dragged into the mad scenario. After much drama, a fight between Bruce and Jeremiah ended with Jeremiah falling into a vat of the green chemical.
Tetch and Jeremiah devised a plan to create a chemical spill. The mainland will not send help if Gotham continues to be destabilized. Jim prevented the chemical from being released on land, but it polluted the water. Word of the chemical spill reached the mainland and they will wait three months before considering sending help.
Barbara said she is pregnant with Jim’s baby after a one-night affair.
Nygma plans to build a submarine for Oswald and him to escape Gotham.

Nothing Shocking
My favorite scene was when Oswald and Nygma were confronted by Mr. Penn and Scarface.
Hugo’s experiments continue to plague citizens of Gotham. He created a changeling who could touch a person and change to look like them. She killed some cops and Harvey was next on her list.
Bruce and Alfred took on the task of finding the thing in the sewer that was causing people to disappear. It was dangerous and when the flashlight stopped working…
There are four more episodes until the series finale.

Ivy's solution for Selena's injury had side effects. Two hours after eating the seed, Selena was able to walk. When Bruce hugged her, her pupils turned into cat eyes. We have to wait and see what it does to her personality. I don't like that this is happening to her. On the other hand, she sure regained the ability to walk quickly. After all this time, you'd think it would be slow. I am happy that Harvey is helping Jim keep the peace. Me too. That's one of the few things I like.

I decided I'd better watch something when it turned out several shows I watched were reruns, and others didn't get recorded (see the Sports Thread). So Penguin has this choir. And everyone loves him because he's the only one who can protect them. Until they find out about Jim's Haven. So Penguin and the gangs have to go there and try to destroy the place. I admired how Jim and his people were able to keep the gangs away for as long as they did when they didn't really have enough bullets. With Penguin also imprisoned, they were both going to have to escape. Which meant Jim had Penguin's help and everything was going to be all right. I can't believe what happened to Haven. Too violent. There were things I wish I hadn't seen. Selina is tough now. Not that I want to see her beat up people.

5.04 Legend of the Dark Knight: Ruin Gordon and Penguin are forced to work together and alliances are shaken when Lucius, Nygma and Barbara all have different ideas of the culprit behind recent events at Haven. Meanwhile, Selina continues her quest for revenge against Jeremiah. I had a number of choices, most of them unpleasant. I did finally give in and watch certain half-hour sitcoms that I had been dreading. For one of them it was for good reason. For the other, it wasn't so bad. But before I made those choices, this was the best option. I actually found myself wanting to know what would come next, so I kept going. During gun battle: “We are sitting ducks out here.” “And one Penguin.” Jim challenged Szasz, the sharpshooter, to a shootout. Jim’s ego is bigger than I thought. Because Jim told Harvey to give his gun to Szasz, Harvey told Jim to never tell him to do anything like that again. Jim puts Harvey into too many dangerous situations. I couldn't believe he did that. However, Szasz is funny and that did make things more pleasant. Selina finally got revenge. Bruce is right about this Selina. And we never knew she was there when his parents died. Or maybe we did. It's been a long time. Nygma has been playing an important role even though he did not know what his alter ego was going. I didn't even consider the possibility people were in those buildings. It was just so terrible that they lost Haven, but this was much worse. We can excuse him for not knowing what he was doing, but he sure knew what he was doing with that woman. I do want to know how she and certain others have electricity.

There were several times when the cops at Jim's precinct faced off against an army. We were relived to learn in one of those cases that Penguin was on his side.\ I was so relieved when the military showed up. Not so relieved when I found out why. That wasn't pleasant what happened to the sons. I am curious how the one son caught on fire because it didn't look like that could have happened. Penguin is still entertaining regardless. I never made the connection that the dog was named after Nygma, if he was. Now we learn the truth about Nygma. But Strange isn't in control either. It wouldn't have been right for us to lose Jeremiah.

5.10 I Am Bane
March 21, 2019
On the precipice of Gotham's reunification, Gordon and Bruce find themselves face-to-face with a newly transformed Eduardo, and discover the real mastermind behind the city's current chaos. Meanwhile, a pregnant Barbara turns to Lee for help.

"I Am Bane" was originally scripted to be the series finale, but two additional episodes were added so Bruce's transition to Batman could be shown. We have to wait four weeks to see the final episodes.
A lot of action and information was packed into the episode. It looked as if the reunification was a success when the water from the purification system was approved. Then a truck drove up and people started firing at the group. Jim and Bruce were kidnapped and no one knew why.
Eduardo was rescued by (fake) Walker and turned into the villain known as "Bane". Bane hurt Jim at Walker's request and Bruce had to watch. After Jim suffered a violent beating, Bruce guessed correctly that Walker was the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul. She wanted revenge for the death of her father. (Of course, to anyone who paid attention, that did not make sense because Ra's insisted Bruce kill him because he was ready to move on.)
Nyssa sent Eduardo to find Barbara so she could also be punished. Barbara went into labor before Eduardo showed up. Barbara's labor was the most exciting labor scene I have enjoyed as she fired weapons while Lee pushed her in a wheelchair. She had a baby girl.
Penguin and Nygma worked together to slow Eduardo down, but had to run for their lives as Bane walked through the blast.
Selina, Alfred, Harvey and others were also involved in the drama.
Final scene showed Gotham being bombed by the military.

He told Alfred Bruce would be along shortly and that today is the big day. I've never quite understood how they can communicate with the outside world. I also don't really understand how Bruce sent that recording. Harvey's solution to the riddle made no sense. For one thing, even going by the style of the cars rather than cell phones, he couldn't possibly have been in school at a time when that mouse was extinct, if it happened in 1959. I couldn't believe lee had been in Gotham all this time, but even worse, she's also being controlled. So Walker, whoever that is, can travel to Gotham. Jim and Barbara kissed! That's not right. I'm still not clear which side she's on. I'm not happy about what happened to Alfred. Selina is so mean but just doesn't care. How did they get a bomb inside what looked like a jewel?

Amazing how much that resembled the night Bruce's parents died. Of course, it's probably easy to just hire the same actors. Jeremiah's job was much harder. I was sort of relieved Alfred was okay but he was hypnotized. Bruce almost couldn't get him to leave. But Alfred's job was to protect Bruce and that's how he had to do it. I was glad when he came out of it, but to destroy Wayne Manor was just too much. Jim found a solution! How exciting. And it was almost as bad. And yet never a hair out of place. Who is his barber? Nygma's plan just might work. He's still upset with Penguin for naming his dog after him but Penguin assured him he thinks very highly of the dog.
