Oops. wrong thread. But I've already heard how depressing they say this episode has to be. I'm not ready for depressing. More on the Season 3 thread since that's what the Emmy nominations were for.

I heard on the radio that crying helps you lose weight. One of the people on the show said that was a good reason to watch this show.

You have already spoiled this thread for me. I logged on to post about the episode, but never mind. I apologize. Please don't let my error in judgment deprive those who might read your opinions of what you have to say. I should have just stopped with what they said on the radio, and I have fixed the post.

I was not successful searching online for the article I saw in an actual newspaper. The site that normally has these articles hasn't been updating.

I love the latest episode and still enjoy this show. They have done a good job of introducing new characters and issues so that family situations have not become redundant.
Kyle mentioned "depressing" more than once during the early seasons before he even bothered watching the show. Then, he did it again on this thread. I do not like it, but I have been civil. I do not think he deserves civility in this instance.

4.8 Sorry (11-12-19) The various types of relationships were very interesting.
Randall helped Rebecca get a job by talking to the employer and teaching her how to use the computer software she needed to learn. Later, adult Randall became worried about his mother because her memory seemed to be failing. She became frustrated with him for talking about it.
Kevin disappointed his uncle and when his uncle chastised him, he had visions of his father saying the same words to him. However, when he went to the court hearing to support his uncle, kind words were spoken about him and it made him feel better about himself. He invited Nicky to Thanksgiving dinner with the Pearsons.
Deja wants to invite her mother to dinner at the Pearsons.
Kate and Toby made a big deal of the baby eating his first solid food.

See the Vent Thread. I may have to skip some episodes while it's convenient.
Also the Weird Dream thread. It may not have been Kate in the dream but it looked like her.

For reasons explained on the Vent Thread, I have skipped to the season premiere. I had heard it described a certain way and I was relieved it wasn't what I was expecting. I didn't enjoy it all that much, but my main reason for watching is Jack and Rebecca in their early years. I was really impressed with Jack's explanation of his life. Rebecca's father was nice enough but he did make it clear that if he had anything to do with it, the relationship wouldn't happen. We all know how things turned out so I'm not worried.
The blind man was a mystery, but now I realize we weren't supposed to know who he was. Unlike "Me, Myself & I", this episode didn't have high-tech gadgets or any other sci-fi stuff to make it clear, but I guess it's all right to make us think it was the present day. I did like the first scene with the waitress, anyway.
The woman in the military was also a mystery until Kevin got the phone call and the next thing we saw was the man being arrested.
Malik was obviously someone Randall knew but I'm having trouble remembering details about him. I liked his relationship with his parents and I'm concerned what's going to happen because he expects to give his baby the best. Well, most working people send their kids to public school. And day care.
I got worried when the birthday was being celebrated because I thought the birth was part of this episode. I was relieved because I've heard what that was or is going to be like. I just wasn't ready for that. It will be hard for me.
This show is so much like OUAT because if you haven't seen it happen, it might still be yet to happen.

So Long, Marianne
SEASON 4, EPISODE 9 • NEW 11/19/2019, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC • DVS
The Pearson family gathers for its first Thanksgiving at Randall's Philadelphia townhouse.

"So Long, Marianne" is a song I was not familiar with, but I liked it. The song drew an emotional response from Nicky when Kevin was singing along. The story Kevin said Jack told him about the song was actually what Nicky told Jack. It indicated Jack never forgot the good times he shared with his brother even though he did not mention his name. The ten pounds of shrimp as a new tradition was very nice. I was glad Nicky did that.
Young Kevin was sometimes a jerk, but as he matured, Kevin has become one of my favorite characters on the show. It helped when he explained that he felt less loved than his siblings. He enjoyed helping people and now feels he is ready for commitment. After he made the decision, he quickly started the marriage and baby. I hope a feud with Randall does not spoil it for him.
The scenes when Rebecca looked confused made it difficult to tell one was in the future because she was wearing the same tan coat, hairstyle and eyeglasses. The neck scarf was too similar to easily detect a difference. Miguel knew something was wrong, but he probably did not push Rebecca as forcefully as Randall did. I am glad Rebecca confided in Randall.
I think it is realistic that: Beth felt uncertain about her role as Deja's mother when she saw Deja's happiness with her birth mother. Deja was emotionally hurt that her mother was living well without her but could not improve life for her. Toby was upset when Kate revealed she had let him flood social media with posts about the baby's first solid food although she knew it was not true. It made Toby feel foolish.
I am not sympathetic that Kate is jealous of Toby's weight loss, but I understand why the text message on his phone upset her. (Online research revealed that Toby had been wearing a fat suit for the show, but Kate did not wear one.)
Randall's daughters are very cute and I like them even though Tess sometimes lashes out when she is upset.

I made a mistake. The first thing I should have done was check to see what the oldest free episode was, and then watch. Instead I allowed myself to get distracted by the knowledge I could get three credits by signing up. Once last Tuesday's episode aired, episode four was no longer free (if it was free before that, which it probably was). So now I have to choose whether to miss episode three or episode four. Whichever episode I choose, I will have to wait for Hulu.
The second episode was so much more enjoyable than others I have seen lately. I liked seeing the family together at the pool the various issues. I was so relieved Kate got to kiss the boy instead of having to deal with being pranked. Randall was such a nerd, and Kevin was better at rapping. So the stereotype isn't true. But what Randall did afterward was mean. And later we saw several other scenes at the pool. Jack's facial hair and Rebecca's hair change every time we see a scene from a different time. That's important.
And in the present day, Kate is pushing forward and focusing on what young Jack can do, not what he can't do. Some of the problems would be problems anyway, but they do have to make certain changes for a baby who can't see. But they will do it.
I was disappointed we didn't get to see more about the uncle, and I'm afraid my choice will determine how soon I learn more.
Randall's family in the present day had their problems, but they were fun problems. The one girl had to learn to ride the bus alone, and it's understandable how Randall felt, especially when the man sat down and started saying weird stuff. And then the other girl got her hair cut. I think those were both his daughters but I can't remember which one is sort of a foster daughter.

Great news! Episode 4 will be the last one I watch for a while from this season. When I finished, I decided to see what would happen if I tried to watch episode 3. All I had to do was sign in with my cable company. I was able to watch any episode I wanted. So I'll go back and resume viewing the episodes I already recorded which are now missing.
I chose the episode I would have watched if I had just looked for the oldest free one. It was funny how Beth's studio couldn't open on time, but great how they handled it. I liked how Beth's mother changed her attitude toward Randall, and I liked the flashbacks of Beth and Randall when Rebecca got involved. It was a shame Beth's mother had the attitude she did, but we know things worked out. In the past, Phylicia Rashad still looks amazing! In the present she looks her age.
I really liked watching Kevin's acting career, in flashbacks. I liked Kate better in those scenes. I also liked how everyone is so excited to see Kevin in the present, and it was sort of a fun day after the AA meeting time was changed. I'm not clear on who his uncle is but apparently he and Jack had a relationship. I liked how Kevin tried.
I also enjoyed teenage Kate's experiences.

A Hell of a Week: Part One

Randall grapples with anxiety.

Light and Shadows (January 14, 2020) Kate confronts Toby about the messages she found on his phone. Rebecca gets her test results from the doctors.
We waited a long time to see Kate confront Toby about his text messages with Kara who is in his exercise group. Unfortunately, when Kate threw a surprise party for Toby, more information was revealed that caused her to glare at Toby until the party was over. Toby smoothed things over but later dropped a worse bombshell. He said when he looked at baby Jack, all he felt was sadness. Thank goodness, baby Jack later did something that brought smiles to both Toby and Kate's faces.
Randall visited his mother to be with her when she took her memory tests. His relationship with Miguel was strained because Miguel felt Randall was overstepping, but they worked it out. While they waited for test results, Rebecca told Randall an endearing story about the two of them sitting in a rocking chair and watching the sun rise. Rebecca does have spatial memory issues, and more tests will be made.
When Randall returned home, he encountered an intruder in the house. That was a frightening moment.

A Hell of a Week: Part One
This episode showcased Mr. Brown's ability to shine in an emotional role. I could feel Randall's pain as he grappled with controlling anxiety while trying to continue his normal routine.
The toddlers were very cute and I had to laugh when Jack was trying to relax but the children got out of bed. Young Randall was scared of monsters but his fears escalated after his father's death. He suffered from anxiety and fear of helplessness. Beth and Kevin were the ones he confided in, but he refused to seek professional counselling. I was waiting for him to suffer emotional overload and it happened in an unusual way. Randall was lucky that he was not blamed for what happened to the thief.
Where was Randall headed when he left his office at the end?

I have finally seen all the episodes I lost from my TiVo. The last one was episode 3.
The uncle didn't seem all that interested in getting better, but he found someone who could help him. Now we know why he broke the window.
The woman who served in the Middle East doesn't seem too happy Kevin keeps showing up. And once again, Kevin shows he makes a good father.
Randall did the right thing. of course the secretary was a valuable employee. Now she can be valuable to someone else because Randall has his way of doing things. He's not winning points with his colleagues but he's there to fix things.

Back to square one. The reason I wanted to watch was Jack and Rebecca meeting. The scenes from early in their relationship were the best part of my first episode from the TiVo since the incident. I got confused when Miguel was there in the scenes with the children. I somehow thought that when Jack and Rebecca were moving into the new place, it was with the kids. Finally I realized Rebecca was adjusting to life without Jack.
Mandy Moore has such a nice smile, and of course she can sing. That's what she was known for first.
Other than that, there wasn't a whole lot to enjoy about the episode. I kept thinking I might, and then something went wrong with every storyline.
I didn't realize that was Beth at first where the family was together. Kevin was married. Okay, there was more to enjoy than I thought. And Kate had her boyfriend too.
Once again, Randall can't do his job because of family problems.
I did like seeing Randall's father in the scene where he regretted that Randall inherited the tendency to have panic attacks. And now he has passed this on.

It fascinates me that Mandy Moore is younger than the three who play her children. She does an excellent job of playing the different ages.

Jack continues to be the best husband and father in the world. He is so loving and charming it is no wonder his family mourned him for a long time.
Adult Kevin became more like his father than his two siblings. When he has a steady relationship with the right woman, that will become evident. He steps right in when someone needs him.
The scene at the cabin with young Kate was not as horrible as I thought it would be. I thought we would see her boyfriend hit her, but he did other cruel things instead. Kate stayed with him because he was the only boy who showed interest in her. I am glad her family rescued her.
I liked the sad three digging up the box and Kevin asking if they were coming out to bury him.
The drawing of Jack's dream house, Rebecca saving the drawing, and Kevin making the house a reality was my favorite conclusion to the episode.
Toby is trying very hard to bond with baby Jack and I think he will succeed.
I have to scream and shout older Kevin was handsome!
