I'm going to have to invest in a fireplace screen this weekend. Buster, I have discovered, pushes the mesh protector apart and climbs into the fireplace to lay in the ashes... Big, sooty troublemaker!!!!!!

I'll just explain the cats here. My next-door neighbors, an older man and his wife, had a black cat (I'm not sure whether this cat is still with us since I haven't seen her lately and she often looked sick). I call her Mommy. Several years ago she would bring her two black kittens over to visit, but she would get defensive when I came near them. Well, she did come over here. Those cats grew up. One continued to visit and was so sweet. She was all the time getting closed up in the building where I keep my rake and mower. Both cats were overweight, but his one wasn't as fat as her sister. Sort of like Britney Spears at the time. So that's what I called her. The neighbors couldn't tell the cats apart and didn't name them. Now, one of the black cats comes over occasionally, but she's the fatter of the two. Mommy had different eyes, so I know the normal weight cat isn't her. Since I'm not sure, I call them Fat Britney and Normal Weight Britney. If I can't tell which from a distance, I just say Britney. Mommy had another litter in the meantime. Four gray tabbies. She brought them over and they would hide from me. Eventually only two were left (I assume the other two got new homes; the neighbors have visitors occasionally who apparently family). Tiger is a male and prettier than his sister, and he was friendlier than she was at first and came over a lot. Now he's not friendly and rarely comes over. Sassy is female and very affectionate and used to come over and rub and meow all the time and just generally get in the way. Vince lived on the other side of my neighbors. He is orange tabby (not striped) on top and white on the bottom. He's very friendly, at least to me. The other cats don't like him. Every since the humans who belong to him moved to the house two houses from me in the other direction, after the woman in her 90s died, he actually visits me more and rubs and meows. Just today I found him in my kitchen twice and had to run him off just because I didn't close the door. Across the street from Vince's old house is a man with a Disabled Veteran license plate. He has a gray and white cat who doesn't visit other houses much but I found it in my yard one day.

Fat Britney went up my ladder on Saturday and today. I don't know why she likes it. If the people across the street had been home, I'd have gotten her picture taken.

Something was in my basement Monday night. I never heard a meow but it would have to be a cat to make that much noise.
I just remembered. I saw a mixed-up cat. By that I mean a cat which looks like a black cat fell in the mud.

There's a historic bridge that I walked across yesterday. It's not much to look at but there are people trying to change that and hoping it doesn't get replaced in a way that will require it to be torn down. For now it has two lanes and walkways on either side with nice wooden railings. And right in the middle was a dark gray tabby sitting next to the outside railing. It meowed. From there it wouldn't have been hard for it to fall to the railroad below.

I know this is a cat thread....but our wee puppy is very sick. I'm sorry. So Vince came over and rubbed and meowed today. And I came home from church to find him waiting for me. Fat Britney visited Saturday morning and came over twice today. Once, she sniffed at the door to where I keep the rake. This is why I have to be careful to close that door every single time.

The veteran's cat just hopped the fence and crossed the two trash containers, jumped down and sent up the steps to the porch. I always assumed it didn't wander.

The wee darlin' has a tumour. The vet has told us he is dying and it's only a matter of time. Hes on medication which is keeping him pretty comfortable at the minute. Soon though we will have to consider ending it all. I'm totally dreading that day.

I don't like dogs but that's so sad. I read something on the subject by one of the three advice columnists whose name starts with A today. I think it was about people expressing sympathy like they would for a person. Oh, Irish might not know. Dear Abby, Ask Amy and the column formerly known as Dear Ann Landers. Here, Fat Britney looked like she wanted in as I got out my rake this morning. She ran off. I walked on a street I don't usually walk on and saw a tuxedo cat washing itself and a kitten washing itself. and another kitten. Sorry, I didn't think about Kitty City as it was time for my annual trip to the big cemetery.

Fat Britney was there to greet me when I got home, but as I came toward her with the recycling container, she ran and disappeared under the house, with her tail sticking out.
I thought I saw Normal Britney outside as my neighbor was letting one of the cats inside (maybe Fat Britney). They don't let the dogs out except where it's fenced in, but I thought I saw a dog go in too.
I haven't explained the dogs. They look like Doberman puppies but they have never grown.

Fat Britney was under my car before I went to the grocery. I tried to coax her out but she just meowed. Then Sassy came along. She and Britney looked at each other, and eventually Sassy chased Britney across the street.

Thought you might like to see them Kyle. Ellie - http://i887./albums/ac80/TANMI/Ellie2-1.jpg Buster - http://i887./albums/ac80/TANMI/IMG_0186.jpg Thank you. I think I had seen them. I don't have a camera but I'm still hoping to get photos of Fat Britney and Vince. I didn't close the door all the way this morning when I went outside, so I came inside and closed the door and there was Vince. I ran him off but forgot I had close the door so he had to meow to actually leave. Later he was there when I got home and rubbed against me. I saw three cats yesterday. I only walk on these two streets every two months. There are four streets near where I get ice cream. I started getting ice cream, when it's warmer, because it was cheaper there than other places. Cheaper still, but no longer cheap. I walk on two of the streets each time, because I walk to the ice cream place once a month, because I walk to the hosptial once a month and I go to this town every two weeks. One cat was a tuxedo cat. It was sweet but didn't come all the way out to me. I thought it was mixed up but the poor thing was missing some fur. A black cat walked in front of me and meowed a lot. A red tabby appeared likely to come out to me but never did. On another day I saw a white cat who wouldn't look at me. It seemed very interested in a squirrel.

Found on another website, and posted by DepressedRaccoon:
"Cats are quantum creatures, actually existing atop every object in your house until you decide you need to use one of them. This collapses their wave-function and places them on whatever you needed. They then immediately settle in to looking comfortable and warm to prevent you moving them."

I have nothing special to report. I happened to be looking when my neighbors open the door and put one of the Britneys outside.

Sassy visited as I was bringing groceries in and when I was putting my trash out. Just like the old days! She was also over this morning.
Vince was there when I got home from the library Saturday.

Vince visited this morning and rubbed against me but I didn't have time to spend with him. After I went back inside I heard a noise outside and looked, but only saw a squirrel. Then Vince came OUT of my back door. When was he inside? Where was he?
Fat Britney visited early. She looked like she wanted to go in where I keep the rake. Later she squeezed into the basement through the broken door.
I was pleased to read the S&P 500 had its best January in years. Maybe I'll make enough this year to fix that door.

I was out walking yesterday and heard this loud meow. I passed the veteran's house and there was his cat making the biggest racket. Now that I have supposedly seen all "I Dream of Jeannie" episodes except the one my TiVo had to delete when I was in the middle of watching it--though there was one I missed that was on last week--I watch "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", also on WGN. Dee was lonely and bought a cat. It somehow got in the wall so her friend came up with the idea of putting a hole in the wall and sending in another cat. When neither cat emerged, Dee's father decided a third cat was the best idea, and so on until that wall was full of cats.

I just heard a terrible noise under my house.
I had just come back from the college library and when I did, Mommy (Britney's eyes look different) was huddled against my house at the location where the cats go under the house because the plumber didn't do a proper repair like I asked him to. Mommy went under the house when I came near.
I went outside to investigate and Vince came out acting all innocent and rubbed against me.

I was disappointed to find that Kitty City now has dogs in its left display window.
On the right, I saw an orange tabby, a yellow cat, a cat that was dark gray tabby on top and white on the bottom, and another cat whose color I don't remember.

Vince was in my yard this morning. No kitties at Kitty City yesterday. I did see a couple of cats while walking Tuesday. One was a tuxedo cat I think I've mentioned here.

Fat Britney was leaving my yard this morning and when she got to the fence, she apparently decided that was too high a jump. She just walked to the front porch.
Sassy was over too. She's getting fat.
Something made noise in my basement last night.

I walked on a street where I was guaranteed to see cats. And I did. A black cat walked across my path. I can't recall whether I ever saw that one. Also a long-haired cat.
On another day I walked on another street where I am guaranteed to see cats. I saw at least half a dozen, and one house had a sign that said "Free cats and kittens". I looked and there were kittens on the porch. I also saw a tuxedo cat with no tail.
This morning normal Britney came over. Sassy was munching on tomato sauce I threw out after opening a can of Beefaroni. I came out to dump something and she ran.

Fat Britney was leaving my basement. She saw me and went back in. Twice. Later she hopped the fence going home, but she hesitated and I figured she was just going to sit up there.
