One of the black cats was being lazy but all of a sudden took off toward my yard as if shot out of a cannon. I wasn't outside so I don't know what that was about.
Mommy was in my yard a couple of weeks ago sitting on a concrete square.
And one of the black cats got comfortable sitting on the fence.

Sassy visited several times over the weekend. I was unloading groceries and she came out of the bushes and rubbed against me briefly.
Then she came over yesterday and spent most of the morning on my back steps, rubbing against me part of that time, and going inside when she wasn't supposed to several times. She made a noise like she had been tepped on when I would tell her to get out, and a couple of times she grabbed me with her claws.

There is a new cat in my neighborhood. Its very thin and all mixed up. I saw it when I got home, but it ran. The best way to describe its color is that a black cat got very dirty.
I saw two cats yesterday, one on a street where I'm guaranteed to see cats. One was dark gray with white paws. The other was yellow and white and I had not seen it before.

The mixed up cat visited today but ran. Mommy stayed longer. she really likes that concrete square. She also rubbed against me.
I didn't see any cats yesterday. This is explained on the weather thread.
I did, however, see a front-page news story about people who abused a cat. I meant to look for a link but forgot.

my cat refuses to drink out of his water dish and insists on sitting on the ledge of my bathtub to drink from a stream of water I have to run for him.
I was putting ice cubes in his water is keep it cold, but he plays with the cubes spilling water all over the place.
My old cat was so neat.....this one is a slob.

While wandering though the outside garden center today, I noticed they had gotten a "garden kitty." Evidently she loves to roam around all the plants. I also suspect she keeps rodents at bay.

My best friend, whom I love dearly, lives in NewMexico with her husband. Her cat died a couple of months ago and she is so intent on getting another Scottish Fold kitty, she and hubs travelled all the way to Arizona to a breeder to find a kitten. Turns out they're taking two of them, but have to wait about a month until the kittens are ready to leave their mother. I would never say anything, but I just cannot figure out why she HAS to go to a breeder to find a new kitty. I got mine from petfinders.com and have been pretty happy with him especially knowing I gave a formally unwanted cat a happy, safe home.

I walked on a street where I was guaranteed to see cats, and I did. One tuxedo, one very thin orange kitty, a gray cat and ... a black and white cat of some kind but I can't even remember what it looked like.

Kitty City had three tuxedo kitties on display. They had names on the collar but I didn't see them.
The place was open but I didn't go inside.
The lazy cat whose house needs work was still in the same place.
This morning Mommy ran when she saw me. She even jumped the fence and went back into her yard. I could also see Britney when I passed by later.
The thin mixed-up cat was on Mommy's concrete square when I came home but ran when it saw me.

I walked on two streets where I was once guaranteed to see cats. Not a single one.
I have a sad and disgusting story too. There were all these vultures the other day, some on the roof of a house next to the road. It looked like a horror movie. I had seen this dark gray cat the day before, and at one point, one of the vultures did pick it up. The next day they were still around. They do get a bad name, but they have an important job.

In the middle of this huge college campus was a dark gray cat. I can't imagine how it got there because it wasn't anywhere near the edge. It must have traveled a long way.

How old should kittens be before they're fed dry food? A friend of mine got two Scottish Fold kittens from a breeder and they're pretty young. She's been feeding them dry food, which they will eat, but, almost immediately, have bouts of loose bowels.
I thought they were too young to digest dry food and advised her giving them some baby food for a couple of weeks and then slowly introduce dry food back into the picture.
I've also heard vets don't agree on wet vs dry food. Some are anti dry food, others prefer dry over wet.
Anyone here have any knowledge on the subject?

I saw a mostly white cat at Kitty City, with a few black spots and a dark gray tabby tail.
A newspaper article I saw said the store had 70-plus cats. But only a few are in the window at any one itme, and only one yesterday.
The cat whose house is always being worked on has moved slightly since the last time.
Yesterday morning each porch railing at my neighbors' house had its own black cat. Today just one did. And the veteran's cat was over there at one point.

I saw a black cat in the road. But it got up and walked away. It looked like it owned that road!
I also saw a lazy dark gray cat on its porch.

My cat could not recover from whatever caused his siezures. He had neurological damage and didn't even recognize me or respond to my voice. I had to ask the vet to put him to sleep. I'm going to be very sad for a while................ I'm so sorry for your loss. Perhaps you can adopt a kitten in the future.

Thanks, kiddo, that means a lot. I'm sure that in a few weeks, I will be at the local shelters looking for a new cat. The house is empty without a furball padding around...wanting to be held, wanting to be stroked or brushed and of course wanting to be fed.

SoCal, I am so sorry about your cat. I have been reading this thread and following your story in the Vent thread, but I have not been able to bring myself to post until now. My cat, Scruffy, was my friend for 15 years. Everyone was amazed that he lived so long. I loved that cat and he was very affectionate and playful. When I saw he was on the decline, I did not want to face it. It was just him and me in this big house. Tears are welling up now and that's why I haven't been able to talk about it. I know you will miss your cat, and I just want you to know that I'll understand if you are not your usual playful self.

Thanks, sweetie. It's nice to have people try to help me feel better. I had Zorro, a Snowshoe, for only 7 years. He was diabetic, but seemed to be doing well. Then yesterday, he must have had some sort of seizure. I didn't get him to the vet until I got home from work ( I left early) and by then he was comatose. The vet was able to get his heartrate up a bit, but by today, he seemed to have no idea I was there with him. He was growling and his eyes didn't seem to see me. We both thought he had some brain damage due to the decreased heart rate and he (the vet) thought it would be a looooooong shot for him to ever recover to half of his normal self. So I gave the okay to put him to sleep and out of his misery. I've been crying all afteroon. I got him just 5 months after I lost another cat, one I had for 15-16 years. I can't believe how lonely this big old house feels without him padding around. I'm starting to cry again. I'll probably have to grieve for a while before I start looking for another cat. Like you, it was just me and him. The house is not the same. I can't walk around without expecting to see him looking at me. Thanks for your condolences. Like I said to Aeryn, it means a lot to me.

I am so sorry to hear that.
I had a cat named Guido who was so smart he must have been the Einstein of cats. He could play fetch and he would stand up, wrap his paws around your neck and hug you. I've never had another like him.
He caught a cold while I was studying for finals, and I took him to the vet when it didn't get better. The vet gave him a shot, and on the way back in the car he stopped breathing. I drove like a madman to get back to the vet's office, but I had been the last appointment of the day and he was gone. And Guido died. Turned out he had feline AIDS.
I felt like a sledge hammer had hit me. The next day I went to my professor and told him what had happened, and he let me postpone my last final exam.
I wasn't the same for months. It just hurt so bad. I was devastated. Even now, when I think about it I'm sad.
So, I know how you feel. I've also had to put a cat of mine to sleep before. They are amazing creatures and become family to you.
I have a herd of cats on my back porch that ranges from 2 to 8 most of the time. I could borrow a horse and have a crosscountry cat drive, like the cowboys used to do with cattle, and bring you a whole mess of 'em when you get ready.

Thanks again everyone for you kind thoughts and words. They're all really appreciated.
I couldn't stand my empty house so I went to the local PetCo, knowing they had animal adoptions on Saturdays, and discovered they were having a "Cat/Kitten Adoption Day."
Long story short, I adopted a cat there yesterday. He's a 3-year old Tuxedo. I've renamed him Sam......no, not that Sam, but short for Sambo (because he's so black!).
He's still getting used to the house but he's very affectionate and I think by the end of next week, he will feel at home.
My vet is going to give me a little round clay tab with Zorro's footprint on it, so he won't be forgotten.
The house feels better now and so do I.
