What HAPPENED?
I was going to get gas because I'm almost out.
$3.79 former Kangaroo and BP. I should have gone ahead because both places matched QM ($3.89) by afternoon. $3.89 Shell and Circle K ($3.79 sign broken). $3.99 at two other BPs. I think Spee was less. At least no one is over $4. No, wait, someone is.
$3.99 Shell closest to where I live. $3.87 Speedway ($4.09 in the afternoon). $3.89 Citgo, but $3.99 on the way home.
I have a long trip planned next week but it has been my experience gas is cheaper where I will be going. I'd better get gas quickly, but way out in the country, prices tend to not change fast.

$4.25 Pure. $4.15 Kelly's. Well, I'm almost out.
$4.19 FastFuels and Speedway. Most places were $4.19 but some went up to $4.25 by afternoon, including two different Speedways. Three places were $4.09 including Kelly's Marathon which did not have my baloney sandwiches. I didn't get gas when I got a hot dog, which was good, but I started to wonder if I had messed up when Gastown had plastic bags on the pumps. Gastown used to be more expensive but lately it has been less expensive. I got lucky. I was able to fill up at Kelly's Marathon and even if I hadn't, Pure was still $4.09. No, a different Pure.
$4.19 Shell closest to where I live. $4.09 Speedway. Wait ... could I have? No, BP $4.14 in the morning, which would have saved me 5 cents with points, which I still haven't used. $4.19 in the afternoon. Citgo $4.18.

$4.29 former DB, QM and BP $4.25 former Kangaroo, $4.39 Circle K ($4.29 Easy Pay--sign fixed), $4.35 Shell, $4.15 BP and Spee. How I wish I hadn't filled up. $4.39 at the two other BPs I saw.
I filled up the can that I use to fill up my mower and while Shell was $4.29, my neighbor with the cats said to use premium. I'm still using Shell gift cards for that. next day, that Shell was $4.39 and so was BP and Citgo. Speedway, the former Citgo and Quik Chek were $4.37 and on the way home so was BP.

$4.39 everywhere except $4.38 at Shell. Shell closest to where I live going in the other direction and BP were included. Also Shell closest to where I live.
$4.25 BP and Speedway. I don't really need gas but maybe I'd better take advantage. Citgo was a little higher. $4.27 BP on the way home. Forget it then!
I'm trying to get the people to move my points to next month when I can really take advantage, but I haven't heard back. I used to be able to call an 800 number but I waited and waited and waited and finally I was told to leave my number and they'll call me back. They did not. I did contact them through the web site but no response there either. And the reason for that is on the Food Thread.

No response, so I'll have to ask for help when I go to the grocery store tomorrow. Unless I get lucky and the price is low at one of the four BPs or the store itself. Not optimistic.
What they did once at my usual store, which doesn't have its own gas station, was give me a gift card for the amount I might have saved. I had somehow ended up with 150 points and without the ability to earn 50 more, the last 50 were useless.

I got lucky and then I didn't.
$4.39 former DB, $4.29 former Kangaroo, QM and BP. That's not what I want, but the last time I didn't go ahead and accept something less than ideal, I ended up paying 40 cents more a gallon to fill up.
$4.22 Shell and Circle K ($4.12 Easy Pay) and Spee. I couldn't see the BP because I went to the grocery store for a bag to put copies of newspaper articles in (see the Vent Thread). But two other stations in the area were also $4.22.
And for the rest of the day prices were all over the place. The store where I get points was $4.27. That store has never been lower than BP!
$4.49 Shell closest to where I live, Speedway and BP. $4.47 Liberty. $4.40 Citgo. $4.29 former Citgo.

To save gas I didn't go anywhere on Tuesday. I will try to do that in three weeks also, but the next two weeks I will have to use as much gas as i would have. In fact, next week a lot more since I will go to the mountains.

What a week.
$4.59 former Kangaroo Thursday, $4.56 Sunday.
Most places were $4.59 or $4.69. Amazingly, outside Biltmore House, just $4.79. Pilot was $4.50 and I know this only because of what is on the Weather thread.
An Exxon which wasn't that close to other stations was $4.79, and this was true of a Shell nowhere near any other station.
$4.44 BP for cash but I didn't have that much cash and got frustrated trying to find a branch that would cash a check. And BP didn't take checks. Also, my points are now for next month and if I had tried to use them I would have lost the last 50 or so. I'm still trying to get to 300. Several other places were doing the same thing when I made a wrong turn.
$4.49 Ingles, but not that Ingles. And cash. And they wouldn't take checks.
$4.69 Shell where I used my gift card. But I must have tried to get more gas than was on my card because the second time I got the message "declined". And the man had no way to see how much the card still had. Someone else paid for me and I got a little more gas because $4.65 was the cash price. Otherwise, I was going to ask for less gas. I'll go to the Shell across from Circle K this week because they know how to figure out what's on the card. The other place was run by a nice old man.
$4.53 Pilot. Well, I won't do any better. I filled up.
Not so fast! $4.49 Shell. I could have found out how much the card had left and used my other gift cards.
$4.39? Is that cash? I didn't pass this place on the way up. The truck was leaving. A bunch of places had lower prices when I was going home than they did when I was going up.

Things just continue to get more and more weird. $4.55 BP and QM. The one that was declined had far less than $10 on it, so no wonder. And that was just how much gas I wanted to buy. I used the card for gas, and the other could have paid for breakfast and enough gas, if I had just known. $4.46 ($4.36 Easy Pay) Circle K. $4.47 Spee. I didn't see the BP. $4.69 BP. I feel sorry for anyone on the interstate who gets off at that exit because that's what all three stations were. It was much less at other locations on that street. I passed the former Kangaroo and saw it was down a penny from the morning and from what it was Sunday. I also noticed it is a Kangaroo once again. So no more "former Kangaroo". $4.59 Shell closest to where I live and BP in the morning. $4.49 Speedway, Citgo and BP in the afternoon. |

How LOW can you go?

Spee was about the same but I forget the exact number. The amazing thing is three places I passed in the afternoon at an interchange were $4.35, $4.37 and $4.39. At the next exit which I passed early in the day in was below $4.10.
Some areas haven't yet gotten the message. Shell closest to where I live $4.24, BP $4.29 (I was tempted but that's not low enough and I'm not close enough to out), $4.33 Speedway, $4.30 Citgo, $4.49 former Citgo (no one was buying gas there).
