I hope I haven't made a mistake. I need gas now, but more importantly, gas could go up.

$3.25 BP, $3.19 Citgo and where I ate lunch, $3.29 former Citgo, $3.12 Quik Chek. Actually, I'm not sure what Quik Chek was but it was low enough I knew getting gas at BP was pointless.

$3.25 Kangaroo, BP and QM. $3.24 Shell and Circle K ($3.14 Easy Pay). $3.24 BP. Spee went down from $3.29 to $3.21. Circle K was $3.21 ($3.11 Easy Pay). So once again, pointless to go to BP. Since I am so close to having enough points, I didn't go to the store where I get points, and since I have to go early to get chicken salad, I never made it to that end of town.

Tuesday, everybody was $3.39. Actually, that wasn't true. $3.36 Shell closest to where I live, Speedway going home and Liberty. $3.38 former Texaco.

But Speedway was $3.39 in the morning and so were BP, Citgo, former Citgo, Exxon where I ate and Shell across the street.

Yesterday, $3.29 Kangaroo, QM, BP, Shell and Circle K across the street. Circle K went from $3.39 credit in the morning to $3.19 Easy Pay in the afternoon. BP $3.39. Okay, so I'd better get gas at the other BP and use my points before gas goes up. I need gas. $3.49 Spee. Just in time! I forget what Circle K at the exit was because I can't remember whether $3.29 was credit or Easy Pay. $3.32 where I get points and a nearby BP, but $3.49 at a nearby Speedway and at Shell, Citgo and BP at the next exit. $3.29 Sheetz.

For reasons mentioned in the Food Thread, I had to go out to my car to get cash. That's after I had already approved using my points. Now in the past if they have to start over that doesn't work. But when I asked if I could use my points with cash, I was told no, that the system was down. The person in front of me when I came back had that problem. In just those few minutes? And if not for my other problem, it might have worked. So no gas. When I go to the mountains next week, I have to watch mny gas carefully and hope I can use my Shell gift card where gas is cheap.

$3.29 Kangaroo and first BP, $3.34 second BP. Okay, not getting gas there and I'm almost out with a long way to go. I have Shell gift cards. One is for $10 and I buy that much where I think it is $3.29. Five minutes later I pass the store where I get points. I forget the amount that day, but it was very low. But I don't stop a second time. After all, things might get better. And they do. Many places are $3.19. The Shell that had a lower price than Pilot was $3.24. I was going to use the gift card. Well, it was for $10. Wait, there aren't any more. I picked up the wrong ones! This is just a sheet of paper with no gift cards!

$3.06 Love's and a sign I can see even though I can't see the station says about that much, but I forget the exact amount. One place was even lower.

I needed a break and I was running out of gas so I stopped where I knew there was a BP. $3.49? Really? Actually I forget the exact amount but it was close to that. $3.19 Shell next door. No gift cards but it works out if gas is less than that when I use the ones I have.

$3.34 Exxon near where I used to like to eat.

$3.29 and then $3.19 where I got gas several times last year (where it was $4.79, the highest I saw). Not this year since I ran out of gift cards.

That one BP was still selling gas cheaper if you paid cash, but still higher than the store where I get points. I won't go to the trouble of getting cash.

$3.69 Shell outside Biltmore House. $3.39 BP, $3.47 if you pay cash. Or close to that.

I got $20 worth of gas at Love's but it should have been $10. I was almost out. And I didn't think $10 would be enough.

I don't like to get gas where I get points but someone did help me figure out the process. Not as much as I was hoping. Oh, well.

Yesterday $3.22 Kangaroo, QM and BP. $3.29 Shell while Circle K across the street was $3.39 ($3.29 Easy Pay) but it was down to $3.21 ($3.11 Easy Pay) in the afternoon. $3.19 BP, $3.29 ($3.19 Easy Pay) Circle K at the interstate, $3.18 Spee. $3.39 Shell at the next exit, $3.34 Shell.

I'm going to need gas by the next week and hopefully one of the BPs will be low enough to justify using my points.

Just in case the next BP was lower, I didn't get gas at the BP and I went ahead and used a gift card at Shell. And then (see the Food Thread) I missed the next BP. I was going to go to the store where I get points and come back to the BP, but something I wanted that was refrigerated was on sale. So I never saw the BP. Circle K $3.21 ($3.11 Easy Pay) and Spee $3.25. The store where I get points and a nearby BP were $3.29 but Speedway was $3.49, and so was Sheetz. Ironically, Shell at the interstate exit was less than that, and BP was $3.34. I had seen $3.49 three times, so going to BP seemed worthwhile and I filled up. Now we'll see if I should have waited.

$3.78 Circle K closest to where I live ($3.68 Easy Pay), $3.78 Shell, $3.69 BP, $3.85 Freedom (self).

I'm at the point where I need gas. The worst thing is that when I somehow put the wrong Shell gift cards in my car to go to the mountains, that's when gas was cheapest and I could have gotten gas cheaper then. Unless gas goes down again to the price it was then, I don't benefit from those gift cards.

And it won't help if gas is cheaper at the beach. Circle K is cheapest, especially since I can use Easy Pay.

I don't remember what Shell closest to where I live was. It may have been $3.57 but it may have been $3.65.

$3.45 Speedway. $3.49 BP. That's as good as it's ever going to get. I filled up and with points, $3.29.

I've now forgotten what the other Circle K and the Shell across the street were, but it was higher than that and they matched in the morning, with Easy Pay 10 cents lower. Shell was lower in the afternoon. Spee $3.56. $3.69 BP and Citgo at the next exit, Shell $3.79. How does that Shell stay in business?

I keep hearing how gas is going up. That's not my experience.

$3.52 BP, $3.54 Speedway early in the day and $3.52 in the afternoon. $3.54 at what used to be Citgo but changed more recently.

I thought I was going to mention going to the beach next week but there's too much of a chance of rain. If it were my usual week, I would go ahead. Given what is expected where I live, I would be surprised if things were better at the beach.

I was about to say it was $3.59 everywhere. Shell closest to where I live was the one exception, $3.69 in the morning and $3.65 in the afternoon. Actually, the former Texaco was also higher. And Liberty which was $3.57. But BP, Speedway, the former Citgo and the other former Citgo, the Exxon and the Shell across the street were all $3.59. Speedway was down to $3.57 in the afternoon.

The former DB, Kangaroo (down to $3.49 in the afternoon), Shell, Circle K ($3.49 Easy Pay) and Circle K ($3.49 Easy Pay), and BP and Citgo at the next exit, and Sheetz. But BP and QM were $3.49 so I stopped and used my points so it was $3.29. I didn't need gas that much but it might be my last chance because I keep reading gas is going up. $3.48 7-11. $3.46 Spee. $3.54 where I get points. $3.69 at Shell at the interchange. I missed BP because the sign is hard to see in nice weather.

I go to the beach next week and have to get gas for a different car. I just hope I didn't wait too long. If the price at the Circle K that is usually lowest ends up being higher than the one I passed last week in that car, it means I should have filled up earlier. Worse yet, I get more benefit from BP this month but it has been my experience the BP stations have higher prices and that means those places aren't going to save me money. Plus the last time I tried at the one BP with a low price, the machine didn't work and I had to ask for my points to be moved to next month or whatever they did.

What a week. There are too many details that I don't remember. What I do know is that the price of gas went up as I went south, then went down as I went farther east.

There is a Shell where I stop because I can use the restroom before going to a nearby walking trail at a lake. I decided to make a purchase with a gift card. I was almost out of gas. I think the price was $3.54, which was actually higher than some places. But I've used their restroom without buying anything several times before.

Crossing the border meant the price went down. It went down even further as I went through the next town. On the way home I got gas with a gift card where it was $3.35. That was one of the lowest prices I saw. I wish I had bought more but the machine kept declining the card. I thought I needed $20 worth of gas and I was right. Once I got home I was nowhere close to full. But the machine wouldn't accept the card until I went down to $10. then the receipt said I had $10 left on the card. No other Shells were as low so I didn't stop again. I'll have to investigate the next time I buy gas at a Shell when I am in that car. Or maybe I can move the card to the other car, but I don't remember which one it is.

I don't remember what gas was at the Pilot but I think it was around $3.35.

I was right not to use my BP points. The lowest price I saw at a BP was $3.46. However, with 200 points that would be $3.26, which is about what I ended up paying at Circle K with Easy Pay. Then I wished I hadn't filled up. Walmart was $3.20 and a place across the street was $3.19 (a Shell just down the street was $3.49). Even worse, the Circle K next to where I eat breakfast was $3.21 ($3.11 Easy Pay). Only it wasn't. There were no gas pumps. I asked why the sign was on and didn't get a straight answer. I had to walk in the street when I parked at the wrong restaurant because almost the entire area where the pumps had been was blocked off. I wonder how often these places replace pumps and how much it costs. Surely it won't take as long as it did at the Shell closest to where I live.

I went to Brookgreen Gardens, a tourist attraction, and saw several places that were lower than the lowest price I had seen at a place that was actually selling gas.

On the way home, an Exxon was $3.59. The Circle K where I had filled up was even lower (with Easy Pay) than the Walmart!
