She did a duet with Tony Bennett ("It Had to Be You") which was good. Not country, but good. I'm hearing it right now.

Wow. Look at what I read on another site I go to.
"When people like Taylor Swift ... are called great artists, it's for sure no one knows what real music is anymore. These people are so horrifically untalented that it's actually offensive."

She is a country artist. Travesty, Kyle! No, the travesty is that she is considered country. Country-pop or country-rock, but not country. At least she has talent, unlike Taylor Swift.

I wondered if anyone would mention her.
I won't go to that other site until Monday but I'll bet most so-called country radio stations won't even mention her.
I only know the one song but it's a good one.

God bless you and his family always!!! Holly I love Glen Campbell, too, Holly, and I've watched a lot of stuff on YouTube on how his daughter helped him along in the concerts, so that he could continue to play. And he has always been an amazing guitar player, something that the public probably doesn't recognize. Glen was a member of The Wrecking Crew, the phenomenal group of studio musicians who created most of the hit singles of the 60s and 70s, and we never even knew it. We just assumed it was the musicians themselves. Not true. And it's shocking to me that I did not know this until recently. Glen even became a member of the Beach Boys for a while, going out on tour with them. He was one of two members of The Wrecking Crew who went on to have individual fame. The other was Leon Russel. Their drummer, Hal Blaine, was pretty much the leader, and created so many of the classic drum parts in popular music, you wouldn't believe. Bruce Springsteen, when Max Weinberg does a particularly evocative piece of drumwork, reportedly shouts out "Hal Blaine!" And Jim Webb, a longtime collaborator with both Glen Campbell and The Fifth Dimension was part of the whole thing. I'm gonna do a whole separate thread on The Wrecking Crew, but I thought you might enjoy seeing a little bit of Glen Campbell's history with the group. Watch his guitar solo here. The guy is just frakkin' amazing. Interview with National Pubic Radio's Robin Young about his "Goodbye Tour."

Holly Excuse my language, but you can't get any fuckin' better than Kitty Wells. Of course, her answer song to 'The Wild Side of Life" was the amazing "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," perhaps the best answer song in history. As a Southerner, I have tears in my eyes, hearing of her death. She was just beautiful. Personally I'm an atheist. But when Kitty sings I'm a believer.

My country radio station played a Kitty Wells song yesterday, and not the one you'd expect.
There were quite a few really old songs played. One was "Love, Love, Love" by Webb Pierce.
There was also "Cash on the Barrelhead". I found out this is by the Louvin Brothers but didn't hear who did it on the radio station.
Right in the middle of Anne Murray's "Shadows in the Moonlight", which doesn't seem very country (though I do like it), I started hearing rap. I tried other stations but couldn't find anything satisfactory, so I came back and it was back. The DJ apologized and said transmitter work was going on.
Edit: At one point the DJ said "When You Say Nothing at All" by Alison Krauss was coming up. Not the duet, which never happened, which was played by another station in the area that has gone Spanish since then.

I'd say my favorite country singer is Taylor Swift. She's certainly in the top three of my all-time favorite singers.

Over the weekend Gillian Welch was on "A Prairie Home Companion". She sang "Goin' Down the Road Feeling Bad" (I think I got that right) which Sheriff Andy Taylor sang.

I'm really sorry to he this. I thought he had his life straightened out. Then I happened to see the details in a real newspaper and it turns out it's much worse than I thought.

Wikipedia vandalism is fun. A couple of what appeared to be teenage girls were all upset over what was done to Taylor Swift. For a few minutes this week, she was said to be deceased, over the age of 100 and a death metal performer. It was her death that made them the most upset. Note: I am not endorsing the practice. The perpetrator got banned without so much as a warning.

I'll give you an amen on that, Timmy, and add Porter and Dolly, along with Speck Rhodes and Bun Wilson to the list.
I thought you might enjoy part of an email I sent to my brother and another friend recently:
"I guess you boys heard, the Queen of Country music, Miss Kitty Wells, went home to the Lord the other day. I'll admit--I cried when I heard that news as well. And I want both of you fellas to know that right now, at this very moment, she, along with Robin and Maurice Gibb are having dinner with Jesus Christ: roast beef, mashed taters made with heavy whipping cream and real butter, green beans, buttermilk cornbread (made in a holy cast-iron skillet), and Apple Betty for dessert. They're teaching her the harmony part on "Jive Talkin'" and she's showing them how to get that real hurt sound in your voice when you're singing. What the hell, Stringbean just showed up. Now it's a party!"

I don't know Kitty Wells well enough to know whether Mistemoonlight's scenario is possible.
More likely she's singing with Andy Griffith and Earl Scruggs.
Though The Bee Gees did find their way into country music with "Islands in the Stream" when country music was going through a weird time.

"Nashville" has made its debut.
My favorite songs on the first episode were "Stand by Your Man" by Tammy Wynette and "Rose Colored Glasses" by John Conlee.
Played on WSM in the scene where Rayna was interviewed.
I liked the first song Rayna sang. The second one was just rock with a fiddle and steel guitar added.
Juliette wasn't all that bad. I didn't care much for her style, but it wasn't as pop-sounding as Taylor Swift. I couldn't understand why that man in the studio thought she needed Auto-Tune.
I didn't know how Juliette was going to get away with being naked without an S in the rating, but they found a way.
