Memorial Day - Eating steamed crabs is a tradition. My daughter called from Virginia and asked if I can get some crabs for us to eat this afternoon. I said OK, but it will be difficult. I anticipate all the seafood places will be mobbed. And now I have to get off the computer and straighten the house. Darn it! I do love steamed crabs so it will be worth it.

Happy Memorial Day to all and especially to those men and women whose service to our country make it possible for silly people like us to spend OUR free time talking about television shows! Thanks Grandpa! WWI Thanks Dad, Uncle John, Uncle Bill, Uncle Joe, Uncle Gene and Uncle Francis (KIA)! WWII Thanks Mike and Jeff! Viet Nam Thank you all for your service.

Hello everyone I hope everyone had a pleasant and safe weekend. The in-laws decided on the spur of the moment to have a cook-out, so my family went to their house. It was fun. I thought I would be spending the weekend in solitude, but would up being around people the whole weekend. Everyone gets along, so it was very nice.

AA -- sounds like you had a great weekend. Mine was quiet and non-eventful......which i enjoyed immensely! I vegged out, watched movies, got some plants from the nursery and planted them, put up a hummingbird feeder and trimmed back my rosemary bushes and grapevine. No grapes, yet, just buds. Is there anything better than a Monday off? Of course, all day today at work, I kept thinking it was Monday, but when the realization that it was Tuesday smacked me in the face, my smile got wider! ;D Did you do clams? Or was it crab? I can't remember.

Glad you had a nice weekend. It's nice to be able to do what you feel like doing. We eat steamed crabs. The only time I would eat clams was when I was tipsy. We had the regular cook out food like hot dogs and hamburgers, but the boyfriend of one of the girls cooked Jamaican dishes like jerk chicken, etc. that would burn the skin off your tongue! I tasted one bite. Wow!

I read this the other day and kept jumping around the forum. The linguini dish is delicious. I just can't eat raw clams. I watched Master Chef with Chef Gordon Ramsay yesterday and for the first time a participant's signature dish made me lose my appetite. The man presented them with an entree of porcupine balls, and Chef Joe told him the food stank. Changing channels...Yesterday, I went to my grandson's middle school graduation. Those teenagers looked so nice all dressed up. The downside was a stranger who was sitting next to me was very loud and obnoxious and opinionated. She kept wanting to include me in her conversation which consisted of criticizing the dresses the girls were wearing - did I mention she was loud!!! I gave her one of my "you will be incinerated in 10 seconds" looks and she said "Oh, am I too loud?" At least she shut up. Other than that, everything was nice. They even stuck to allotted timeframe.

You were at least lucky to be next to a loudmouth who recognized she WAS a loudmouth and shut up. There are too many loudmouths out there who are unaware of how annoying they are to the people around them. *wondering how to aquire that incineration stare*

I thought you (both Aeryn and SoCal) would appreciate that. I acquired that look while volunteering in the public school system.
SoCal, you're right that I was lucky she realized it. I never thought about the fact that most loud-mouthed people don't take a hint.

Yup. Unfortunately, loud mouths and cluelessness seem to go hand in hand.

Personal experience with clueless loudmouths? It seems to be a part of society that is increasing in number. Cluelessness can be cured by exercising your grey cells. Loudmouths can only be cured by shutting the hell up. Clueless loudmouths don't understand this. *sigh*

We had a mini heatwave in May so when I received my utility bill I put it aside for three days. I did not want to open it because I thought it would be around $300. I finally opened it and the balance was $0.00. A merger took place and part of the deal was that customers would receive a credit. I even have $14 to carry over to the next bill. The media is strange. I did not hear that good news, but when the utility does something people will not like, it remains on the news for days.

I like the summer music more than I like summer. Fall is my favorite time of year. I love when the air starts to cool off a bit (although here in southern CA, you can't always count on that) and the trees start to turn color.....and best of all, the kids are back in school so I can go shopping without running into teenagers! But you can't beat summer for fun music. Or at least, that used to be the case. I don't really listen to any of what they're calling music these days.

I like all kinds of music. It's a good thing that I do because I hear hours and hours of the latest music while riding up and down the road with the young members of my family. I made an exception when they went through a phase where explicit lyrics monopolized the greater part of the song. Some movies have gratuitous sex while those songs had gratuitous profanity that had no value whatsoever to the message. Today I spent all day with the family at basketball games. None of us realized it would be an all day event. It turned out to be the end of their spring/summer travel league and the games were Win! or Go Home. They won the first game in overtime and we had to hop into the truck and drive to a 2nd location for the next game. They won that one in overtime. The 3rd game was close - won by 2 points. I learned that as the season had progressed, they put the Best of the Best in Division 1 and played them against each other to see which team would represent our region in Nationals. That's why they were so well matched. This is Gary, the youngest.

Well, the Kings won the first three games, but the Devils have come back to win the last two. In just half an hour, they'll be playing game six....and I hope, hope, hope the Kings finally win!! I'v been going to their games since I was a little girl. My dad was a big hockey fan (coming from Massachusetts) and we went to several games a year. I haven't gone to a live game in a while since I live far away from the place they play, but I've been a fan for a long time and NEVER thought they'd ever win the cup. I'll be watching in another half hour.

We will keep our fingers crossed, so good luck.
My city had a hockey team called The Baltimore Clippers and I went to their games. We eventually lost our hockey team and our basketball team. It's a shame when a large city cannot hold onto its teams because of money woes.
