I ate ham, macaroni and cheese, rolls and pecan pie today. So far.
I didn't bother to count everyone, but one of the great-grandchildren is sick and his mother is staying with him. The other great-grandchild is with her aunt. As far as I know everyone is here.

I've eaten way too much in the past week or so...time to get back on the wagon and whip myself back into shape for the New Year.
Dinner tonight was turkey noodle soup made with the leftover turkey from Thanksgiving. It wasn't bad, but I prefer chicken noodle soup.

I went to the hospital last week. I saw a newspaper article listing this hospital among those in my area where the food could be compared to nicer restaurants. I suppose if I wanted to spend the money ... my chicken salad sandwich wasn't that good and the woman cut it in half despite my asking her not to. Have you even tried to put your own tomato and shredded lettuce on a sandwich already cut in half and then tried to eat it? It's not pretty.
My walks to this particular hospital resulted from walking to two separate destinations. 18 years ago we took my grandmother to the park and sat down to watch the ducks on the lake. I still go to that park once a month. A nearby park is even nicer. I discovered it walking to the hospital to see how much progress had been made on construction. I remember watching "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie" in the outpatient waiting room (no one knew I wasn't there for a legitimate reason and it was easier than going home to watch), so that means no new buildings have been added since 2000. So I've been going to that park (after seeing the ducks and geese at the other park) at least that long. And most of the time I stop in the hospital to eat. They used to have such good sandwiches at the snack bar. Now I have to go to the cafeteria, which is as nice as a mall food court, but they have chicken salad sandwiches and turkey burgers.

I'm having minestrone soup and french bread for dinner. I'd rather have a Big Mac.

I passed by Krispy Kreme yesterday at lunchtime. I haven't had one in several years. It's good!

I had a coupon for beef hamburgers, so not all of my Sloppy Joes will be Sloppy Toms.
But when I went back to my old brand of turkey burger, I discovered it was harder to get into them than I thought. All the burgers are in a plastic bag, so I put the box aside so I could open it, and it wasn't easy. And I ended up dropping half the burgers on the floor. I washed them off. The box ended up on the floor too, so I just put the burgers back in the bag and inside a bag of buns.
Even worse, I didn't have enough water and nearly burned the Sloppy Toms. The worst part of that is the cleanup. The good news is I just used one of my steel wool pads which have proved more difficult to use than I had hoped. 3M quit making the wool pads I've used for 12 years and steel wool has numerous problems. They turn the water blue, they somehow cause me to need to add more dishwashing liquid, which the wool pads did not, and they seem flimsier. I may try another brand and see if that solves the problem of them being flimsy. And then I had to buy a separate item to scrub nonstick cookware.

What a frustrating experience I had trying to get lunch yesterday.
I was going to the Citgo with the hot dogs and knew I could use a credit card and avoid carrying cash. Only I couldn't because the machine there was out of order. And no, they couldn't do it the old-fashioned way.
I couldn't go to the hospital. Actually, I get milk at the hospital and a sandwich at the drugstore when i'm in that neighborhood, which I was because my car was being worked on. Neither place takes credit cards.
I tried the grocery store. Not only was the music loud (I think the name of the song was "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne) but there were no pints of milk. Actually, the last time I went there they had 12-ounce bottles, but they didn't have those. And no, expensive flavored milk doesn't count.
So I had to find a place that did take credit cards. Not my usual place downtown near the library. There was one place near the community college library where they let me spend two hours on the computer (my online time used to be unlimited and still could be because once those two hours are up, there are usually plenty of computers). I was able to get a fish sandwich with slaw which was really good. But when I tried to get milk they didn't have pints of regular. I had to go across the street at the light. Found it! And it was 99 cents. Most places charge around $1.50.

I ate hush puppies and one hot dog with chili and red slaw. I rarely go to this restaurant because what they charge for milk is outrageous. But yesterday was the last day I could go to KMart beforehand. After this week the college library is open past dark and I can come home and go there, letting me get more done.
Hush puppies are fried corn meal which can be in the shape of a golf ball, an onion ring or a small sausage.
Today I ate my first beef soup of the winter. I wait for cold days, and I only eat it on Friday. If I eat it on Wednesday it's too much trouble to clean up and I wouldn't want to leave it until Friday.

I had the most delicious whole wheat crackers last week. I had a coupon for the store brand which resembles Premiums or Zestas. They've never tasted that good. Perhaps because I let them get stale. I found some I forgot about and they taste awful. Nevertheless, I spent the money. Crackers that aren't that good make me appreciate the ones that are good later.
I've been eating Chex Mix on weekends (so they'll be special) but they're too spicy. Maybe I should just get plain Chex. There was no "plain" Chex Mix and these were "bold".
Still haven't finished Christmas cookies. I have trees.

Normally I will take advantage of any opportunity to eat a Hardee's turkey burger but I walked in the cemetery yesterday and, while Hardee's IS close to there, I had an annual routine before turkey burgers of eating a barbecue sandwich.
In Western North Carolina that means pork shoulder, chopped. At this place they put "red" slaw on it. I like white slaw but this is an annual treat.

I had Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Cheesy Burger Macs for lunch.
Delicious. For canned food. And I was able to easily clean the pot. Maybe I can even recycle the can! I've never done that with tomato sauce.

I did recycle the can. I got the name of the product wrong but it was close enough.
I have gone back to bread with more fiber than ordinary whole wheat. It was on sale--buy one get one free. So I got two.
I'd rather not explain why this is a good thing.

I ate with my aunt who I celebrated Thanksgiving with (a month early) yesterday. She had turkey and dressing again but I had fish. We were celebrating my birthday.
I was disappointed the place didn't have blueberry muffins. I used to like to get those there.
By the way, she had not been to visit the aunt I spent Christmas with. She didn't want to catch anything. My aunt and uncle were both sick, but in my aunt's case it had nothing to do with her cancer treatment, as far as I know. It sounds like she is doing fine with that.

Several weeks ago I was looking for a grocery bag to use for recycling. I also use bags that aren't in good shape to put over the top of bags that I used for trash, which I put out each Saturday after putting out the trash.
I found a bag with old whole wheat saltine crackers in it. They tasted awful but I experienced no problems that I am aware of. I'm not wasting food, especially after I make such an effort not to spend more money than i have to. Crackers such as these make me appreciate the good crackers. And this same brand, a store brand, tasted amazing when I happened to use a coupon and ate the crackers I got with it the same week. I thought these tasted plain and boring but they don't.
I was looking for another bag and found even more crackers. Same deal. And Ritz too. But I've nearly run out of the really old stuff. I will soon eat Oreo cookies I bought when I got an online deal for free ones in or before September 2010. I had so many cookies at that time I decided not to take advantage of any more deals. None of those cookies have tasted stale, though.

At lunch yesterday I ordered the "pork sandwich"—an item that read on the menu like a breaded cutlet...but turned out to be TWO huge, bone-in pork cops sitting on a pile of french fries. YUMMY!

How can people eat sandwiches with bones in them? I once went in a bar next to bunch of factories where I was applying for jobs and ordered a chicken sandwich. It had bones and the man gave me nothing more than plastic fork to eat it with. I left without eating but this was a mjena-looking man and I didn't dare complain to him. Since I had to wait for lunch to be over to finish applying at all the factories, it was too much trouble to drive somewhere else at that time.

I visited my aunt yesterday. This particular aunt was expecting me two weeks ago just before my birthday, but it was 33 and raining. She had a cake for me which had been in the freezer. I had to turn it down because I can't have a cake tempting me, and there's no room in my freezer anyway. I suggested she bring it when my other aunt could have visitors, and I could eat some of it them along with other family members, but it wouldn't be good by then. She said she'd give it to the homeless.
