49. Dean and Sam adopt/kidnap/whatever Ben and train him to be a hunter. He would be better than that kid in The Walking Dead.

I would, personally, devote an entire episode next season to Dean or some unnamed barber/demon/angel/trickster shaving off those massive growths on the side of Jared's face! Oh I can see a prank war between Sam and Dean in which Dean nair's off Sam's Side burns. ;D

Agree with that. It would be juuuuuuuuuust a tad difficult to write the "anti-Christ" back into the series. Besides.....he's a couple of years (in earth years, at least) older and I doubt snarky Dean or sincere Sam could keep him in line. Best for the the writers to just forget about him.

That the separation doesn't last more than 4 or 5 episodes.
I heard somebody suggest it lasting for half a season. It better not.
While I wouldn't stop watching, I'm pretty sure I'd be throwing things at my tv after the 4 or 5th episode mark. Hopefully they learned their lesson after dragging Souless Sam for half a season. I know that some of TPTB wanted Souless Sam for the entire year and were talked out of it and so it only lasted half a season. But even that to me was too long. Looking back, it took 11 episodes for Sam to be re-souled, but in reality, it should have only taken like 8--maybe 9.
If you take out Weekend At Bobby's, All Dogs Go To Heaven, and possibly Clap Your Hands If You Believe, you get his soul back in 8-9 episodes. However, I get that Episode 11 was the Winter Finale and so they wanted to end on a bang, but still.

If they are separated for a long time, that would indicate Dean is stuck in Purgatory for multiple episodes. I don't think either my nerves or my heart would take that. Dean being chased around that place by evil monsters is not my idea of entertainment. I want him to be the super hero, not someone's prey. I hope they did learn their lesson from the thousands of complaints every time they separate the guys.
I hope they stick to the formula they used in previous seasons. Dean went to Hell at end of S3 and came back first episode of S4. Sam went to Hell end of S5 and was back first episode of S6. That works better.

I really don't understand all the angst about the brothers being separated. I'm beginning to think some fans won't be happy until Dean and Sam are officially conjoined and can never be out of each other's sight again! I don't mean I don't want episodes where they work together ("Nightshifter" is always my prime example), but I am also happy to see how they act/react differently when on their own. To my mind, that gives each actor a chance to shine and not just act as a buttress to the other. Hunters are being killed off, seemingly, by the dozen, so it might be better to be apart some of the time so they BOTH can't be hurt/killed/captured, etc, at the same time. Again, I want Dean and Sam to: hunt together; hunt apart; cooperate in hunts; help each other; call each other names; get mad at each other and have a beer together. Stop getting so whiny over them being apart. Has it ever lasted long? Oh, sure, for some fans, half an episode is too long. *shakes head and goes to make dinner*

But SoCal, you did not address where that would leave Dean - in Purgatory.

I think it would be good for Sam and Dean to be apart for a time, but not longer than about 5-7 episodes. The whole point of SPN is about the boys and family so they need to get back together, but i think it could be really interesting for them to be separated for a time. They depend on each other so much that this could be a time for each of them to learn to stand on their own and to take care of themselves. This doesn't mean they won't be worried sick over what is going on with the other one and trying to find a way to fix it, but this could turn out to be a good thing.
J2 are certainly more excited in their interviews for S8, much more than I saw for S7. My other point is J2 work very long hours since it is basically just the 2 of them and they are both young and both recently got married and of course Jared and Gen just had a baby. These guys need to be able to take a couple of days off now and then, they are not machines they need rest, so if splitting them up for a time (just not to long) helps them get some rest, I am all for it.
But let's not have the Purgatory story last half the season like the horrible Soulless Sam story did.

*stamps foot repeatedly* As long as Dean is not stuck in Purgatory, they can do what they want! I prefer the episodes where they are together because Sam is a good foil for Dean's snark. They play off each other beautifully and I love it when they burst through a door simultaneously.
It's normal for co-stars to be in every episode so I don't feel sorry for them.

*backs away from AA's stamping foot* I agree, I agree....I don't want to see Dean and Cas stuck in Purgatory for several episodes. I do think it should be one or two, though. It shouldn't be that easy to get out of Purgatory otherwise the Levis would have done it long ago. I like it when the boys say a sentence together.

OK. Two exciting, adrenaline-filled episodes in Purgatory with me covering my face with a pillow every time a monster appears. I can live with that. I've lost count of what number we are on. The Levis did not have Sam Winchester on their side. Sam knows the formula, but he will still need a miracle.

I'm not really upset about the separation because the boys didn't choose to be separated, unlike other times.
However, I will be upset if when Dean does get out of Purgatory, they split up. I'm not sure why they would, but one never knows.
As for who Sam could possibly team up with to get Dean back, Frank's a good choice. Maybe Garth or heck even Jody.
Even though Garth is a bit nutty, he knows his stuff. Jody's not bad with a gun, so she'd wouldn't be a bad choice either.

We must not forget the all powerful Death. I know he keeps saying he won't help them. But if Death is capable of affection, Dean is the one person he feels affection for.

I could see Sam conjuring him up, despite Death's threat to not do it again in MTNB. Maybe Sam tries other things first, follows other leads initially, but strikes out, so Death is his last chance.

Oooooooooooooooo...I like that idea of Death getting involved. Since he claims to have been around longer than anything else, he probably doesn't like the leviathins either. Could be good.

Some people are suggesting the angel Inias who defended Castiel against the angel in 'Reading Is Fundamental' might appear to help. I thought I would mention this since we are thinking of people who could possibly help them.
