King writes much like life happens, he shows you the trivial and the significant he shows you the strengths and weaknesses of each character allowing you to feel for them. Allowing you to love them and to hate them and this ads to the journey he takes you on with his writing, he causes you to be involved with the story he draws you in and makes you feel the story, makes you root for the good and boo for the bad I read my first Stephen King book, The Shining, back in 1977, and I remember thinking that somehow he had plugged in to exactly what was going on in popular culture while he was telling an epic tale. As I look back on it, part was certainly the song references, but there was more. It all served to make the story more realistic and root you in a world that was ours, although skewed enough to be extra scary.

Believe it or not, in the mini-series Nick Andros is played by Rob Lowe.

Ive tried that one but chickened out lol my first Stephen king novel was pet sematary ive read dreamcatcher hearts in Atlantis and ive read it almost all the way but (don't laugh) I ended up hiding it in a drawer and covering it over with clothes I was that scared and strange things started happening to me when I read that so I never finished

My first experience with Pet Cemetary was unnerving. I bought the book, and had just taken my cat in to be spayed or neutered (I can't remember if it was male or female, just that it was black.) The cat had to stay overnight at the vet's after the surgery, and I had already started to read the book.
The poor cat was still on narcotics when I got it back, and resembled nothing more than the cat in the beginning of the book who had died and was brought back from the dead. Talk about scary.

That probably would have scared the ever living crap out of me!
This is actually my first Stephen King novel and (please don't laugh) I usually get scared pretty easily.

Ok, since I was alive back then I'm not now. (Oops, just trying to scare ya.) Here's a litte history to put things into place. During the mid to late 1970s we learned that the government had been lying to the American people on an amazing scale about all kinds of things, most notably the Viet Nam war, in Daniel Ellsberg's release of The Pentagon Papers We found out that the company Monsanto, working in collusion with the government had created a deadly substance called Agent Orange, which not only did great destruction in Viet Nam but also affected many of our service personel as well. It took years for the government to come clean on this and award them benefits, as the government denied it existed. Jump ahead a few years and you find out that they are conducting biological tests on previously eradicated pathogens at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. Then you begin to see how something Project Blue could have gotten out of control. By the way, I have to wonder if the name Project Blue was somehow inspired by the US Air Force's famed study of UFOs, Project Blue Book.

Def not laughing I do too! And moon I cant even imagine that just reading this book makes me want to wash my hands lol l Damn you, Stephen King! It always seems like there is an echo in real life for me when I read one of his books. Right now in south Alabama there is some kind of super-flu going around that has resulted in many folks having to go to the hospital for breathing treatments. I've been washing my hands like Lady MacBeth since hearing that. And I didn't hear it until after we started this book. I guess the modern day equivalent to this story would be something like the Ebola virus escaping.

When I read It the sink drains were being weird at my house so when water went down them it would make a loud strange sound and I was still attending school when I read this and I needed to use the bathroom so I had to get some pass from the teacher and it was this big wooden pass lol even though I was in the eleventh grade, but anyways I went to the big bathroom it had like eight stalls in there and I was the only one in there and everything was quiet and as I was in the stall I dropped the pass and of course it went right under the other stall where id have to stretch to reach it now I was already freaked out just imagining what might happen, that book had me on edge lol so I decide ill reach down and get it anyways I guess I used to be braver then lol but so I grab it then when I stand up I hear this sound like a little girl singing I think ok I'm crazy but I keep hearing the sound of a little girl singing and I had already checked and there was noons else in there and that bathroom had a heavy door so you would def hear if someone came in but I hadn't heard anything! So I'm standing there in the stall with this big wooden pass in my hands listening to hear God knows what and all I can think is I gotta get out of here so I decide ill open the door if anything is out there I'm gonna smack it with this big wooden pass and run like crazy luckily there was nothing.outside the stall but I got the heck out of there and still I continued reading this novel so one day I am getting ready to wash clothes but I needed to go outside for something so I go out the back door its maybe 5 pm and the sun is still shining well in the backyard you can see out to the street across the way so as I'm walking outdoors I'm thinking its so quiet I get this weird feeling and of course I'm freaked out enough with the past events and the way the book talks about everytime the clown appears it seems as if time freezes and no one is around well it seemed pretty much like that no people were out no sounds nothing so I have this creepy feeling and I'm looking around for anyone and suddenly I see a blue balloon floating down that street and like in the bathroom I run like hell back to the house and later hid that book and never finished it lol and I swear every word of that is true!

However, King is coming out with a sequel to The Shining, the first book of his I ever read, on September 24th, so I'd love to reread it right before then. His novel Under the Dome is being made into a TV miniseries to be broadcast beginning June 24th. This is a novel I just read a couple of months ago, so I wouldn't be interested in reading it again, but certainly would be interested in a synchrowatch of the miniseries. However, his novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption was made into one of the finest movies ever made, The Shawshank Redemption, and I'd be interested in both of those. I'd have to take it on a case by case basis.
