At the very end of chapter 65, King writes, "He saw the new look in their eyes, wary and questioning, and he felt the fear touch him again with its light moth wings." We know that moths are drawn to flame, often at their own demise, so I take this as foreshadowing to Randall's fate (and that of his followers) with Trashcan Man. That is great moon! how insightful I cant believe how king hid flaggs fate right in front of our faces the whole time I feel like saying doh for not seeing it thank you for pointing that out what a clever writer Mr king is

Chapter 66 through 67 seems to serve as a season of change for all those that are in the west they are steadily seeing the change for the worse Even as crazy and as "loyal " Lloyd id even he is having doubts about the walking dude We even get a glimpse of flaggs own insecurities of himself he knows things are "getting flaky" yet he is desperately clinging to the idea that its all ok When many incidents are telling us quite the opppsite There's actually a literary term for what you're talking about. It's called a 'sea change.' I, for one, have experienced similar experiences in management, when you see things going into the crapper and you continue to 'act as if.' The thing that's hard to judge is the fact that 90% of the time things work out on their own without you doing anything. But if you don't do something in the other 10% of the times, you're in trouble.

There was something I had forgotten to mention at our last meet I noticed that there are all these different names for Flagg amongst many of the characters And I was reminded how that's true for the devil And also how they often refer to him as the walking dude and I remembered how the old saying goes no rest for the wicked and often in the book it tells how worn his heels are letting us as readers know Flagg has been traveling for a long time I wondered if not all of these were not mr kings clever way at it again

LOL. There's also another fact: a moth's wings, like a butterfly's are dependent upon a light coating of dust. Anything that disturbs that dust can render them unable to fly. That's a good metaphor for the folks in the west, because they are never able to fly and exert complete control.

You are so right, and I might not have noticed it if you hadn't pointed that out. Just like Flagg, the Devil has numerous names.

I've also noticed how occasionally when describing scenery or the environment in the west there are often deathly details given for instance pg 985 "Every now and then he had to swerve around a sand dune that had crept out of the desert and had laid a white skeletal arm across the road ..." Is this kings way of telling us that the west will be the stage for a deathly showdown And also maybe it's symbolic for the way Flagg would reach out to hinder or harm tom/the people in the east any way he can We see tom has to continually swerve to avoid these skeletal dunes on the road Perhaps tom is symbolic for the free zone and that skeletal dune is Flagg Skeletal because he lacks all that makes him human besides the mere appearance the frame of a human no other human characteristics in him

I have to say while I'm touching on page 985 I was never happier for nick having taught tom how to ride a bike then at the very bottom of page 985 when tom gets up the strength to peddle on moving himself away from Flagg And also while we are talking about nicks good ideas it seems it was a great idea of him to send tom And finally I miss nick

Yeah, me too. Ultimately the best choice was the least expected. It says something about Tom being less susceptible to outside.e forces and the purity he has by being 'other'.
I miss Nick, too.

We see in chapter 67 Flagg brings back his crazy wife Nadine Lloyd informs Flagg of all that's falling apart Flagg sends people out after the third spy tom We see more of trashs work The helicopters explode Making it clear to many what predicament they are in
We see how strong nick and toms bond is by nicks continual advisement to tom on how to get home safely
We get a scene on the roof sun deck from flaggs pov and realize he too is seeing how things are falling apart and then crazy Nadine enters the scene to give us a fuller account on all that flaggs missed Nadine gloats about all the Flagg doesn't know Flagg gets a little crazier and unbelievably tosses Nadine And Flagg realizes she pushed him to it knowing he had some hold on her that only he could break
Yet he still refuses to see how he is losing control

Should we do 67 and 68 next week?
