Did not learn in school: A famous female reporter died in the crash of The Hindenburg on May 6, 1937. I finally saw "Timeless". The Hindenberg blew up, killing a famous reporter. Three people were chosen to go back in time to stop bad guys from doing something. One was a history teacher, one was in the military, and one was a computer geek. Because he was black, he had more problems than the others. Especially when he demanded to be treated right and pointed out that someday a black man would be president and Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson would be celebrities. The bad guys knew what the cause of the explosion was, and stopped it. So they could blow it up with the right people on board. So we had kind of a James Bond moment where our heroes had just seconds to stop the explosion. The Hindenberg still blew up, but everyone who would make a valuable contribution to history was off of it.

The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln - did not learn in school that Lincoln was a wrestler and won over a hundred matches. That movie about Lincoln being a vampire hunter seems plausible now, but I have not seen the movie. In "Timeless", the villains planned to kill the others who were in line to replace Lincoln. The professor couldn't save Lincoln, but Johnson, Seward and Grant were saved. Grant was supposed to be at the theater but didn't go originally. In this version he did.

Atomic City - did not learn in school the mistress of President John Kennedy traded secrets and was later vilified and died of cancer. I didn't see the last 40 minutes of this week's "Timeless" with Kennedy having an affair and great music by Sinatra in Vegas. See the Vent Thread. The poor girl is, however, engaged to a man she never met. The girl on "Frequency" has the opposite problem. I thought you meant the mistress was engaged to a man she never met, but I know now that you are talking about Lucy. I saw "Timeless" online and I'm glad I had to wait. They didn't do a "previously" this week and I didn't know where the villains got an atomic bomb. Now I do.

Party at Castle Varlar - did not learn in school Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond series, was a British spy.
I was amused he kept flirting with Lucy.

The team learns about courage at the Battle of the Alamo.

The Alamo - did not learn in school Davy Crockett did not really wrestle a bear. Did not learn Texans were called Texians. ***
Santa Anna's Mexican army killed almost all of the Texans defending the Alamo, including Col. Travis who is famous for a letter that made "victory or death" a battle cry, Col James Bowie, and Davy Crockett. Wyatt, Lucy and Rufus helped save the women and children by creating a path through an aqueduct and guiding them through it. Bowie gave Wyatt a Bowie knife.
Although Wyatt had told Lucy he had gotten over the tragedy to his team, we saw him having sudden visions of his dead comrades. He still suffers.
Flynn went there to tell the Mexican army leader to attack four days earlier than planned to prevent Travis from sending his famous letter. Flynn balked when the General raised a red flag which meant "give no quarter" or kill every body including women and children.

I wondered where I had seen Lucy. She was the sister in "Rectify", the same series Riggs of "Lethal Weapon" starred in. Journal Now would not let me read their article.

The Watergate Tape - did not learn in school that the missing information on the tape was about a woman who was called "doc" rather than about an actual document. *** June 20, 1972
*pumps fist in the air* Power to the people! I remember those days very clearly.
Flynn wanted the information that was missing from the tape because it would help him to destroy Rittenhouse. Flynn captured Wyatt, Lucy and Rufus. He told them Wyatt would remain in captivity until Rufus and Lucy brought the document to him. When the team learned the "doc" was a woman, Lucy and Rufus disagreed on how to handle the situation - either turn her over to Flynn to help Wyatt or turn her over to Rittenhouse to protect Rufus' family.
Flynn told the team you cannot travel back to a time you have already been. That seems to be true on most time travel shows, but The Flash ignores that rule.

Do you plan to catch up on episodes of Timeless? I've seen them all. I watched the one I missed part of online. It was nice to see Houdini again. His skills proved very valuable. There was no easy way for Lucy to explain why she had heard of him. I halfway suspected the man who was trapped with them in the secret room was actually the man who was trapping people and killing them.

Stranded - did not learn in school the French and Indian War was an alliance between the French and Indians against Britain. Flynn's time machine was the first sighting by the French of a UFO. *** September 15, 1754 Flynn's trip had a dual purpose to either trap Wyatt, Lucy and Rufus in hostile territory or to ultimately get them killed. When the team was captured by Indians, Wyatt and Lucy were destined to be killed, but Rufus saved them by begging for their lives. Knowledge of Star Wars and Star Trek helped Jiya decipher a partial message from Rufus.

Space Race - did not learn in school a black woman helped NASA with the moon landing. I learned about Katherine Johnson from the promos for the movie "Hidden Figures". *** Flynn hates Rittenhouse so much he traveled to 1969 to sabotage the moon flight. The astronauts would have been stranded with no way home because of a computer virus Flynn used to infect the control system. He would prefer the Russians to win the cold war rather than Rittenhouse members. Flynn and Anthony and the team infiltrated NASA headquarters in order to accomplish their missions. Flynn does have a soft side. While he was there, he saved the life of a boy. The boy was the son of the woman who later became Flynn's mother. Although Anthony said Flynn is responsible for everything he is doing, Anthony is the brains behind the operation.

The Capture of Benedict Arnold - did not learn in school that Arnold and Washington were friends or that Washington did not help Arnold get a promotion to Major General. *** Flynn went to 1780 hoping to destroy Rittenhouse at its inception. The great reveal is that in 1780, Rittenhouse is a person who founded the organization. David Rittenhouse taught his 12-year-old son, John, his philosophy. Lucy chatted with the boy and John revealed his father's words of wisdom. One of them is that peasants are like the hands of a clock; they go 'round and 'round with no goal of their own and need to be guided by the clock maker. Democracy is an illusion used to placate the masses. yada yada Rittenhouse had approached Arnold and promised him a seat at the table if he brought him information about Gen. Washington's plans. Rittenhouse suspected Arnold and Wyatt's team were lying and planning to kill him so he killed Arnold. In the ensuing battle, Flynn killed Rittenhouse but the son escaped. I think Flynn had a valid reason for wanting to kill John who was clearly brainwashed by his father.

The World's Columbian Exposition- did not learn in school anything about a serial killer. *** The team has been in danger before, but being captured by a serial killer was torturous. It was nice to see Houdini again. His skills proved very valuable. There was no easy way for Lucy to explain why she had heard of him. I halfway suspected the man who was trapped with them in the secret room was actually the man who was trapping people and killing them. I also enjoyed seeing Houdini. He was humble in his early career unlike the last time we saw him. His cut-purse trick was very handy. I suspected the man who was trapped with them too. Lucy was terrified but she did an excellent job of throwing Holmes off balance by pretending to be psychic. I guess the team is not as concerned about changing history as they were in the beginning. When Lucy said Holmes would lie and refuse to give families closure about the murders, Wyatt shot him in cold blood. I was not upset about that. Flynn went to 1893 to catch Edison, Ford and J. P. Morgan together so he could kill all three of them. He said they were members of Rittenhouse.
