Chapter Eleven: To Riverdale and Back Again
The episode centered around an annual school dance, but there was a lot happening in the background. The highlights that I can remember are:
Mrs. Cooper is convinced Jughead’s father killed Jason on behalf of Veronica’s father. She convinced Veronica to search F.J.’s trailer to look for evidence. Veronica and Archie did not find any incriminating evidence. Later, F.J. was arrested after officers searched the trailer and found the gun that killed Jason. F.J. is being framed.
Polly was caught snooping around the Blossoms’ bedroom. She later used a ruse to get Cheryl to take her to the bedroom. Cheryl found the engagement ring in her mother’s dresser and became suspicious. Cheryl lied and told her parents she destroyed the ring,

Renewed! I don't have a link although the column I read in the actual Charlotte Observer is probably online in the paper where it first appeared. I just don't want to search for it.

I haven't watched any episodes yet beyond the pilot. I keep waiting for episode 2 to be repeated. Renewal gives me hope.
There are going to be a bunch of marathons of CW series this summer.

Good news! The pilot gets repeated this week. If they go in order, that means the first episode I missed airs the following week. Then I can start watching them all. I'm actually looking forward to it.

I enjoyed Riverdale more than I thought I would. The show is unpredictable. I hope you like it since it will return for a second season.

I wasn't as happy with the second episode as I thought I would be. I was remembering what I liked, and I still liked what I liked. I also saw the third episode. I will comment on each by replying to what has been said before.
I like Betty, of course, but I like Veronica more. I especially like Veronica in hot outfits and in a swimsuit most of all. Jughead is becoming easier to take but I can't stand that hat.

1.03 Chapter Three: Body DoubleThey did not hold us in suspense long to find out what Cheryl was guilty of. Her involvement in events on July 4th were different than what we were led to believe. Jason made it all the way across the water without getting wet and was determined to run away from home. Also, Cheryl and Jason were next to each other when there was a gunshot. Although Cheryl had already admitted she heard a gunshot on July 4th, Archie felt compelled to admit he was at the water and also heard a gunshot. He did not implicate Ms. Grundy, but someone else did. The jocks of Riverdale frequently humiliated the girls by lying on them for points, which they then tallied in a shame book. When Veronica was targeted by Trev Brown, she fought back. The girls’ plan to get proof succeeded, but Betty went too far with her alternate personality. Trev is in the next episode and he will be causing trouble. Archie’s father is a hardworking man and wants his son to be prepared to make a living. He is not a mean guy. Although Cheryl said she is sorry if her brother hurt Polly, she still seems like the ultimate mean girl. Several mysteries: The reason Jason was running away is a mystery. Why is Veronica’s mom working as a waitress when she has a bag full of money? She could pretend to be working. Who is "Ms. Grundy" and why did she take a dead woman's identity? How could Trev believe Betty would be intimate with him? Reggie talking to Archie about football in the first episode: Veronica reminds me of the witch in “The Secret Circle”, but there is no relationship as far as I can tell. The shame book made the episode a little more interesting and not quite as weird as just a murder mystery. I wonder why anyone would name a girl Ethel in this day and age (actually around 2000, but it's still hard to believe), or why those guys would go after a girl who looked like her. I was pleased Cheryl was being friends with Betty but then Cheryl revealed her true intentions. I don't quite understand what the football player is supposed to have done to Veronica. Was it supposed to be obvious from the photo? I didn't know that was Betty pretending to be Polly. I knew it wasn't Polly, but I didn't know who it was. I saw Midge's name in the shame book. I don't know who that is but I remember a Midge from the comic books. I don't see what was so bad about Dilton Doiley shooting a gun unless he could have accidentally shot someone. I remember him being a nerd and find it hard to believe he's like this on the show. Archie's father is of course like any other father. And Archie is rebelling. I was pleased Josie and the Pussycats used his contributions. As for my taste in music, I was much happier with the Saturday morning Pussycats. But I was pleased they did "Sugar Sugar". Given their attitude, that was certainly unexpected. I'm thinking that may have been in the second episode. I didn't hear anything to suggest Ms. Grundy wasn't her real identity. She does look good. They got the look right for Mr. Weatherbee.

Did I hear that right? Alice Cooper?
"Imaginary Mary" got cancelled but Alice realized what her name would be if she got married. She was of course talking about whether to keep her name, which in her case was a good idea. But if the show had stayed on, that would be too many Alice Coopers.

When Ms. Grundy's car was illegally searched, they found fake I.D.'s and that made them suspicious about her identity. That is the way I remember it, but I watched it a while ago.

S1.E4 Chapter Four: The Last Picture ShowBetty learned about Archie’s friendship with Ms. Grundy and searched for information about her past. She learned Ms. Grundy was using an assumed name and had a gun in her car. Betty told Archie and he asked Grundy about it. She gave him a sob story and he believed her. Betty’s mother found out about the relationship. A group of parents confronted Archie and Grundy and threats were made. As Grundy was getting into her car to leave town, she gave some young guys a very saucy look. I do not think she is as innocent as she claimed. Jughead was upset that the drive-in was going to be demolished. He tried to have the contract delayed, but neither the mayor nor Archie’s father would intervene. Veronica’s mom used the bag of money to bribe the mayor and purchase the old drive-in theater. I was shocked that Jughead is homeless and was living in the drive-in. Okay, this was the episode where it was learned Ms. Grundy is not her real name. The obituary showed a woman who looked like the Miss Grundy of the comics. I didn't notice how Grundy was looking at the guys. I was shocked about Jughead as well. I felt bad that the town was losing its drive-in. We had one too but I never went. But people where I lived weren't too happy about the idea of losing it. I don't blame Archie's father for not wanting to lose this big job. I think Betty's mother is being too hard on Archie.

1.05 Chapter Five: Heart of DarknessRiverdale really holds my attention and this episode revealed events we were not aware of. Jason and Polly’s relationship was more serious than people knew. Jason’s grandmother gave a family ring to Polly and thought Jason and Polly would get married. Hal Cooper was against that friendship as much as the Blossoms were. Hal said the Blossom ancestor killed his great grandfather out of greed. He also said he came home and found Polly trying to hurt herself after an argument with Jason. It is suspicious that Hal has the information that was stripped from the murder wall the sheriff had created. The Blossom memorial service for Jason was weird. I wondered if rich people usually hand out invitations in black envelopes or did they do that because it was inside the Blossom home. Cheryl attracted incredulous attention when she entered the service wearing the white dress she wore the last time she and Jason were together. I like the song that was playing, but I never understood the meaning of the song. That scene was certainly dramatic. Penelope was furious and she was very angry and harsh to Cheryl. Val initiated a meeting between a music tutor and Archie. Oscar Castille was critiquing Archie’s work when Archie mentioned Miss Grundy’s name. Castille reacted and told Archie he could not tutor him. I hope we hear more about that. Val seems very interested in Archie. Veronica’s mother, Hermione, was shocked when she opened a box at the diner and there was a snake inside. She called Fred because she does not trust anyone else in town. Later, Fred said she could have the job at his company that she asked for earlier. I know I left some things out because there was so much happening. Right after it was mentioned that Polly tried to hurt herself in the bathtub there was a commercial for razors. That should not have happened. I couldn't believe a man Archie's father's age liked the Pussycats. Now I liked the music the original Pussycats performed on Saturday mornings (with what instruments?), but of course that was garbage, much like what The Archies did. Yes, I guess I liked their music too. Val was nicer than I expected. Those girls have such attitude. Now I wouldn't know if Archie had any talent because his music is not my taste. I've already forgotten what song was playing for Jason's memorial service. Cheryl's behavior was weird. Her parents are weird. I'm glad she has Veronica to turn to. Jughead actually wore that hat to a memorial service? I am glad Fred decided he could trust Hermione. I don't know whether he had a problem or figured it wouldn't look good because of what her husband did. Anyway, her situation was so much like Caroline's on "2 Broke Girls", except Caroline didn't have any money and she was the daughter and had to take the waitress job herself. I don't know where her mother was. Imagine Veronica having that job. Caroline, though, was constantly perky even though she was constantly complaining about her life.

I enjoyed the episode. A lot of information was revealed about the families. I felt that Jughead liked Betty more than he let on and that was confirmed when he kissed her. He seemed to be willing to do anything for her although sometimes it was against his best judgment. Jughead and Betty located her sister and they were shocked by her circumstances. Veronica is very upset that her mother was kissing Fred. Veronica expected her mother to wait for her father to get out of prison. I liked Polly and I was also surprised by the truth about her. What a shame her parents are treating her that way. I didn't like seeing Jughead kiss Betty or Archie kiss Val. Actually, Archie should be with Veronica. But he should also be with Betty. I forgot to mention last week how nice it was of Reggie to say what he did about Archie being team captain. One thing the Pussycats forgot about is who would play keyboard. Veronica does in The Archies but we don't know if this Veronica can. Val is nicer than the others, but at least now we know why Josie is the way she is. They seemed to be such serious musicians in the pilot and they did DISCO? Now I like disco but not the song they played. The girls did sound beautiful together, regardless of the music. What a shame for Josie's father to react as she did. I would think Veronica would jump at the chance to help Archie. Who would have believed she would have that opportunity?

I have a truckload of movies recorded but what really put me behind schedule was spending too much time at my aunt's house. It doesn't seem to matter because the reruns aren't airing and I'm worried I may have to watch the one I missed online.

I watched this season in three days I thought it was really good Then you must comment. There aren't enough of us doing it. Very good episode. Betty is making every effort to help Polly. She wanted to believe the Blossom parents were being truthful when they said Polly was welcome in their home, but Cheryl advised they cannot be trusted. For the time being, Polly will stay with Veronica and Hermione. The Sheriff accused Jughead of having motive to kill Jason, but I do not think he did anything to Jason. The shocking reveal was in the final moment of the episode. When Jughead's father walked past a closet in the trailer, we saw a coat with the name "Jason" embroidered on it. Nice of Cheryl to warn them. And nice of Veronica and Hermione to help her. I don't believe for one minute Jughead is the killer. I did like seeing him with the hat we're used to in that "Leave It to Beaver" scene. I didn't see whatever happened in the trailer. Veronica looked hot in that dress. I expected her to be wearing it when she went to the club but she changed to a sparkly outfit. I liked the term "American Excess" for the card her mother wouldn't let her use. I find it strange that they had anything when they moved to Riverdale, given that their situation was confirmed to be just like Caroline's in "2 Broke Girls". What Hermione said couldn't have been exactly true. Fred is a good man. Jughead's father should get a second chance. But I'm not confident he will take advantage. I'm not clear on what his name is. I thought someone said "Pete". Mostly they called him FP. I looked it up and both he and Jughead are Forsythe Pendleton. No wonder he prefers Jughead. Though he told the sheriff one of the reasons people made fun of him was that his name WAS Jughead.

1.08 Chapter Eight: The Outsiders 3-30-17
When Fred loses his crew just as they're about to start construction, Archie and his friends try to help, making them targets for an attack; Jughead worries how his friends will react when his secret comes out. There were two possibilities for how Fred was going to get back to work. Jughead's father didn't seem to be in the group that quit. But he did eventually show up, with others. I wondered why Archie and his friends couldn't help, but that's exactly what they did. Fred preferred that they focus on school but he appreciated the help. Archie also commented to Jughead that he had done the work during the summer but he wasn't like his father, who enjoyed that sort of work. Archie and his friends had no business at that bar but they did find out Jughead's "secret". Veronica wore another hot dress. It was nice of the Blossoms to take in Polly, but I don't think they're just doing it to be nice. At least things have improved between them and the Coopers, but the Coopers themselves aren't getting along now. I am pleased that the topic that couldn't be mentioned wasn't treated casually. I liked that phone Fred used. Last night on "Pyramid" someone commented no one "dials" phones any more. Also last night, the show won numerous Teen Choice Awards (including "#Bughead") and the actor who played Archie spoke for the group. I forgot he was not from around here. It took me about 20 minutes to watch the entire two-hour episode. I never dreamed I would get through it in the limited time I had, but there just weren't many awards given to people I would have cared about. It seemed to mostly me a concert and teens today don't like music. They like this garbage they call music.

There are no comments about the episode I just saw. And that will be the last one I see for a while. Unless they rerun it, I'll have to see the missing one online, and I'm going to wait as long as I can to keep from doing that. If it gets to the point where I will lose that episode by waiting, then I'll watch it. I think five are available free. So once one new episode is added this fall, that's it.
I was surprised to see it snowing because it seems like it was just summer. I also didn't expect this town to be far enough north for maple syrup to be a major industry.
So now we know Polly is spying on the Blossoms.
Archie is getting benefits from being Cheryl's friend, but how much does he want to be indebted to them?
Val doesn't seem happy with Archie. She was nicer than I expected, considering the Pussycats' attitude.
Fred and Ethel? Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do.
Veronica tried to make up for what her father did, and she was genuinely upset, but it is understandable that Ethel's mother won't see it that way.

They referred to Maple Grove. I forgot to mention this. That's the name of a church I used to go to (and at that time there were no maples, but someone realized this and that soon changed), and every even-numbered year when I would go to the mountains, they had a supper. Those suppers ended because of lack of interest several years ago but I did go to a Sunday morning service when I had to stay long enough to see my pastor ordained. My current pastor has several years to go, but when I see her ordained, I will go to the church that had the suppers in odd-numbered years.

On a "Hot in Cleveland" episode I saw this week, Fred was Victoria Chase's date. He had an extra nose on his forehead and the beginning of an ear. These had something to do with donating to people who needed them. He said something like "Wait until you see what's on my back."

Then the wife of one of the twins caught them.
