There was never a dull moment in Gotham and I loved it. First, Bruce interrupted a crime and was told “I have a license.” What?! A license to commit crime? Even in Gotham, that seemed outrageous. Then, Det. Gordon interrupted a crime in progress even though the proprietor seemed to accept what was happening and, once again, the criminal had a license.
Penguin has used his licensing scheme to organize “organized crime” and reduced crime by 57%, with no violent offenses like murder. He convinced the mayor and the commissioner to agree. Even Harvey decided to not fight it, but he knew his buddy would not agree.
Victor Szasz can be added to the list of my favorite villains. He is so darn cool and talented. Now that he engages in conversation, he seems humorous in addition to being deadly. Szasz had a brief stand-off with Alfred, but they both lowered their weapons.
Bruce has already perfected his “now you see me, now you don’t” trick and pulled it on Det. Gordon. I enjoyed his chat with Selina and it seemed he was prepared to catch her if she slipped from the catwalk. I think Selina was surprised at how willingly Bruce joined her on the catwalk.
Unfortunately for Penguin, disgruntled criminals crashed his grand opening and doused him with Jonathan Crane’s fear juice. Crane’s son was locked in a closet with his “worst nightmare” and has become the Scarecrow.

Why is Barbara back? Didn't she die last season??
Water defeats the fear poison? Water??
Bruce is slowly but surely becoming Batman. Not sure if the actor playing Bruce is beefy enough for the role.
Good ol Fox! Getting the mask to Bruce.
And Alfred has Bruce's back.
Pretty good episode.

I started watching the first episode because I had some extra time before another show I was watching started, and my only other choices ... well, there were "Hot in Cleveland" episodes and "Anger Management" episodes. And movies that would take two hours to watch. But I still have "Downward Dog".
It was so bad I couldn't even finish. But I will eventually. Giving criminals licenses? At least Jim didn't put up with such garbage. And Bruce has a costume of sorts.

I really enjoyed Gotham. Jim Gordon is a determined and courageous officer. He had to fight off a lot of asylum inmates, but he did not get beat up like he did when the policemen ganged up on him. His partner, Harvey, left him on his own this time. I thought Harvey would show up at the asylum, but he had faith Jim could handle it.
When we saw Penguin, he had obviously shaken off the effects of the fear spray, so I was sure Jim would also. Johnathan Crane/Scarecrow sprayed the warden and took over control of the prison. When Jim tried to arrest him, he sprayed Jim with the fear spray. Jim’s worst nightmare was that Ms. Thompkins would die because of him.
I love the scenes that include Bruce and Alfred. It is a bonus when Lucius Fox joins them. Fox is subtle when he discerns what Bruce and Alfred are trying to do, and he helps them without being intrusive. I really like Bruce’s new suit.
Three mad women and a babe are teaming up to add to the chaos in Gotham. Barbara mysteriously survived her death and has set up shop as an arms dealer. She invited Tabitha and Selena to join her. Ivy invited herself. When Penguin popped in uninvited, he told her she had to pay him a tax. Szasz was thrilled when he saw all that weaponry and he took a huge weapon for himself. I like him more each time I see him.
Nygma is still frozen and the cops are still getting paid to do nothing. Ivy took several potions that will probably turn her into a monster.

I had time to finish the episode. Actually, I could have watched "Hot in Cleveland" instead. But I struggled to get through the rest of the episode and maybe it wasn't so bad.
I liked how Tabitha and Selina got along. And Selina's dress was hot.
A big change in my favorite characters list.

4.03 A Dark Knight: They Who Hide Behind Masks

The usual suspects are pitted against each other to get the upper hand when it comes to crime in Gotham. The cops sit back, relax, but keep a wary eye on James Gordon.
The embalming knife – Selena was unable to steal it because Penguin’s men arrived at the truck and started spraying bullets at Bruce. Barbara was very angry at Selena’s failure. Barbara tried to buy the knife from Penguin, but he rejected her offer. Bruce learned the value of the knife and went with Alfred to the auction and bought it for $2 million. Barbara wanted to outbid him, but Penguin spitefully rapped the gavel, closing the bid.
I enjoyed Bruce acting like a spoiled rich kid but he was overdoing it, which Alfred pointed out.
So…what makes Jim Gordon a chick magnet? Perhaps it is the sense of danger that surrounds him. Capone’s daughter, Sofia, does not seem to blame Jim for her brother’s death, but more will be revealed.
Weird lady, Myrtle Jenkins, defrosted Nygma and nursed him. His brain was not fully recovered and his responses to the riddles were too funny.
Myrtle: I am black and white and red all over. What am I? Nygma: A zebra with a gaping hole.
Myrtle: I have a face and two hands, but no arms or legs. What am I? Nygma: A deformed baby.
Myrtle unwisely confessed to Penguin and he turned her over to Szasz. R.I.P. Myrtle
Ra’s Al Ghul will be coming for the knife.

I like Bruce and he is maturing quite nicely. He is as tall as Jim Gordon, but still looks young. He has spent his life courting danger and danger has found him. I learned so much about Ra's Al Ghul in the Arrow-verse that he is not a mystery to me. He was training Bruce to be his successor, but it is strange for him to take someone so young. It was not his plan to let Bruce live at home with a normal life. It is unfortunate that the antique store owner was killed and it was not even necessary.
If Ra's is the main villain this season, Harvey and Jim will need reinforcements. Their cops drop like flies when there is trouble. Anubis was awful. I do not know if he is one of Ra's pets or one of the weird people from Arkham Asylum. He was trying to bite people. Jim could not handle that big guy in a fight, but the book stacks took him out of play. Jim was irritated at Bruce's omission of important information. For some reason, I am amused when Jim gets irritated, especially at Bruce.
I was thoroughly entertained by the irritating delivery method Nygma used to present his riddle to Cobblepot. Szasz was getting in the groove, but Penguin was not amused. I do not remember what the riddle was, but the scene was funny.
When Ms. Falcone was with Penguin, and Penguin gave her a veiled threat, I laughed out loud when Szasz explained to her - with gestures - that he would stab her.
I missed Harvey this week.

Two characters have returned to Gotham. But first, Bruce followed his destiny and did what he was struggling to avoid. Ra’s Al Ghul said he had a vision 200 years ago (or was it 2,000?). In his vision, he saw Bruce was his heir and he has searched for him a long time. They are not supposed to kill children in front of us, but Ra’s killed that boy because he wanted to provoke Bruce.
The rappers were naïve enough to return and give Penguin another riddle. That was their swan song. Nygma’s riddles are not very good, but Penguin did try to decode them anyway. When Penguin and Nygma finally met, it became clear to both of them that Nygma is no longer a worthy adversary and Penguin let him live.
Butch was in a coma for six months, and it was decided to dump his body because they needed the bed. He was dumped in the swamp where chemicals had been dumped. He rose from the swamp a changed, but whole, man. He bumped into Nygma and they teamed up. Nygma needs money so he took Butch/Grundy to a fight arena. The doc for the club is James Gordon’s love. She looks as if she never returned from the dark side.

I think Bruce has gone over to the dark side. Essentially, he has become Ra’s Al Ghul, but I do not think he understands what that really means. He is too focused on the act of killing Ra’s and is too angry to analyze his future.
Selina, Tabitha and Barbara are three beautiful and formidable women when they work together. Awesome!
I think this episode finalized the breakup of Gordon and Bullock’s friendship.

Stop Hitting Yourself
The people in the Narrows remind me of the Roman coliseums where the audience cheered while people were being torn to pieces. The episode was violent and brutal because it showed fights at Cherry’s Place and they fight to the death.
Once again, the ladies showed their strength and made some decisions Penguin will not like. Nygma might not be smart at the moment, but he knows how to antagonize Penguin. He would go in the fight ring and portray Penguin as a whiny dictator.
Dr. Thompkins shot Firefly. Tabby fought Butch in the ring because she wanted him to remember her. She will return for him. Dr. Thompkins will now lead the fighters at the club because the boss lady, Cherry, was also shot and killed.
Penguin’s developing relationship with mute Martin is intriguing. Martin is clever and resentful like Penguin. Penguin does not trust Ms. Falcone.
Ms. Falcone is taking credit for the position of Captain being offered to Gordon. Gordon cannot be bought, but he has probably lost Harvey as a friend.

I was glad Alfred showed up to get Bruce out of his jam. The one good thing about the episode was seeing Bruce looking almost like Batman.

Ever." because each episode became progressively worse, in my opinion. That is why I have not posted about most of them and there was nothing to like. The Pyg episodes are horrible. The fall finale was a huge disappointment. In case you are a wee bit interested in what happened to Barbara, during a fight with Tabitha, Barbara's feet were wet with water and Tabitha caused a broken lamp to electrocute her.
